Saving some me-mades I wasn’t wearing 👍🏼

There are quite a few pieces in my wardrobe that are just not being chosen when I reach in there. I always LOVE the fabrics.... it’s the styles that are sometimes just not me. I decided to transform a few of these items into more wearable styles. Follow me on IG https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles Contact me: [email protected]
Mountain View Jeans (Itch to Stitch). My 1st pair of #memade jeans!

15:11
Mountain View Jeans by Itch to Stitch: https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/mountain-view-pull-jeans-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/ *not an affiliate link Myra’s review on the jeans the motivated me to try this pattern: https://youtu.be/svdlML9XsFE I made the straight size 14. Little modifications: Shortened front rise my 1/2” Rose the back patch pockets by 1” Lengthened the pants by 2” to accommodate for my height. When I cut the fabric I didn’t know how to asses for fit prior to cutting so trusted they would fit based on the description of them being high rise. Also, stretch denim is forgiving! Next time I will customize the front crotch curve depth a little. Follow me on IG https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles There I post more photos of my makes in every day life! Back fish-eye (waist) darts for shaping. Two ways. Tutorial.

13:21
This has been requested in many comments so here we go! These two methods can be applied to any pattern of garment you've already made and would like some shaping added. This is how I have done it for years and it works. TWO measurements needed: * Back waist length/height. * It is different and shorter than the front. There is no bust on our back! Mine is 44cm * Apex to apex.... distance between them divided by TWO. Mine is 24cm You will have other measurements :) York Top Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u19s9oc00-Y&t=122s Rhapsody Blouse Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDLRsvT1yc0&t=425s Follow me on IG https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles Contact me [email protected] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: I recently became affiliated to two indie pattern companies after trying their patterns for over a year and also becoming a pattern tester. The photos of my thumbnail are from the "Villarrica Volcano" in Chile. This is an active volcano that errupted in 2015 and I climbed it in January 2016 (2800 mt above sea level....or 9190 feet). #owop17 (One week, one pattern) roundup: 8 Ogden Camis by True bias.

17:24
Ogden Cami http://shop.truebias.com/product/ogden-cami I batch made these and I confess no hacks or much creativity this time as I was pressed for time and in the middle of packing at the time! I just wanted many many of them for the challenge and to take on holiday! In the future I will be hacking this pattern.
York top. A FREE pattern by Seamwork. Review. Unintentional animal print!

13:52
#freepdfpattern #freepattern York top by Seamwork: https://www.seamwork.com/catalog/york I'm sure a free pattern is greatly appreciated! I am. My specifics: * For reference, 41-34-44 at 5ft 8" * Size 12 blended to 14 at the hips * Lowered by 1" the bust dart * Added Fish eye darts at the back. This reduced the waist circumference by 6cm (2.5") giving definition and shaping at the back. * Lowered front neckline by 1" * Polyester sheer fabric, unknown content. Woven. * I used 112cm to make this top. The requirement was 170cm. I'm happy with the result and will be using this pattern again to create a dress and other versions! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: I recently became affiliated to two indie pattern companies after trying their patterns for over a year and also becoming a pattern tester. Turner dress (Cashmerette patterns). Sleeveless clean bodice lining. The PERFECT knit bodice.

17:20
Turner dress by Cashmerette patterns https://www.cashmerette.com/products/turner-dress-pdf-pattern I made a size 12 at the bust graded to 14 at waist an hips. C/D bodice. My measurements are 41- 34.5- 44 My modifications: Sleeveless. Clean bodice sleeveless lining method. Lengthen bodice by 1cm. Past video on Sleeveless clean bodice lining link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BSyEz15fpvg Follow me in IG https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles Contact me: [email protected]
Shelly Leggings (Seamwork). My first and last activewear I'll ever sew.

09:56
Shelly Leggings https://www.seamwork.com/catalog/shelly This was a VERY easy make and the fit it GREAT! but.... Although they are wearable, they are only useful for specific activities like weightlifting. I can't run or cycle in these. I can't justify the expense of a coverstitch that would give better results. So I will continue buying high quality RTW activewear. I made a size Large. How to make any KNIT top into a dress. Featuring the Wanted "Dress" hack.

14:55
Fitted tops suitable for this hack: Wanted Tee by Vanessa Pouzet (Used here) http://eshop.vanessapouzet.com/en/patterns/200-wanted.html Examples of fitted styles that can be used to this same purpose: Moneta dress C(Colette) Bodice: https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/moneta Agnes Top (Tilly and the Buttons) https://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/agnes Or any other fitted top! I recommend a structured knit like scuba and ponte roma for fitted styles (more flattering and forgiving) and no more than 1-2 inches of negative ease in the final pattern. Simplicity 8216 Sleeveles necktie (Bow) top. Yoke: burrito method.

19:59
http://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-8216-misses-mini-dress-or-tunic/S8216.html I chose view D with the neck bow. My measurements are 41-34.5-44 (104-87-111).... I chose my size based on the finished garment measurements that had size 14 for a 44” total bust circumference. My modifications: 1. Two yokes pieces instead of one. Burrito method to attach to shoulder seams and the back piece under the yoke. 2. Shorter bow and the pattern piece cut on the crossgrain! 3. Side slits for extra ease, around 10cm in length. I hope my process makes sense! Follow me on instagram for earlier sneak peaks of my makes! https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles/
Three’s a Charm blazer (Decades of Style). Lining it + review.

20:53
Three's a Charm blazer from Decades of Style: https://www.decadesofstyle.com/products/no-103-threes-a-charm-jacket This jacket comes in sizes 30-46 (bust measurement determines the size). I made a size 39 at the bust ad graded out to 41 at waist and hips.... I graded between the lines of the pattern sizes. I chose to line it because the fabric was thin. I made my own lining pattern pieces and show how I did that. My adjustments: Narrow the shoulders by 1.5cm Line it Drop the side bust dart by 2cm Shorten the length of the side bust dart by 1.5cm Follow me on IG https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles contact me: [email protected]
Iris Shorts (Colette). Lengthening and unpicking.

17:09
https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/iris These almost didn’t turn out a win for me, but I got there in the end. I cut a size 16 to be on the safe side as I thought they would be tight, but nooooo.... they were way too big. My measurements: 41- 34.5- 44 (103-87-112) at 5ft8” My modifications: Lengthened the shorts by 9cm + 3cm for the hem. Took in a extra 2cm at the sides Took the waist darts by an extra cm Centered zipper instead of invisible Next time: Do a size 12 but keep the crotch length of the size 16. Only a few changes :) or maybe many! These were necessary for my style, needs and comfort. The pdf file does not come with a printing guide specifically for the trousers. The document is 60+ pages! These are the pages you need to print for the trousers only: 2-8, 10-16, 23-24, 30-32, 38-40, 46-48, 54-56 My next pattern from the e-book will be the Dana blouse or the Kate blouse.... still cannot decide! Simplicity 8093 blazer (MimiG). Lessons learnt: forward shoulder adjustment.

12:15
I made the blazer of Simplicity 8093 by Mimi G. https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-8093-misses-sportswear-from-mimi-g-style/8093.html I made size 16 and needed to tailor all the pattern pieces to fit me around my C cup and also had to drastically alter the armcyse. I learnt I need to asses the need for a forward shoulders adjustment from now on. Follow me on IG https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedle Contact me: [email protected]

Creating a curved WAISTBAND (Skirt/Pants). Marfy 0757 (FREE) skill builder 2.

19:40
You can use this method when: 1. You want a Waistband on a pattern that has a facing only as the original design (no waistband pieces) 2. Your pattern has a rectangular waistband and you want a shaped one for comfort. 3. Your pattern has curved waistband pattern pieces BUT you made fit adjustments and altered the darts, added darts, increased or decreased the side seams you can redraft the waistband to fit your corrected pattern pieces. Marfy FREE PDF patterns link: http://www.marfy.it/sewing-patterns/f... You must create an account to be able to view the three free patterns. I have shown in detail this process on the video. I will be using this pattern as a base for skirt creativity and other musings as a way that you can also attempt these projects without having to draft a skirt block, if you are not ready to. Dawn Jeans. New Pattern (Megan Nielsen). Views+++, faux leather, linen + ZERO stretch denim.

18:18
New pattern release by Megan Nielsen: Dawn Jeans https://megannielsen.com/collections/pdf-patterns/products/dawn *NOT an affiliate link I tested the PDF draft for sizes 0-20 There is also the CURVE 14-30 size range separately I can finally share! I tested this pattern months ago and it´s partially the reason for my jean craze. I know I said I´d never make jeans....but.... I have done a 180 degree turn in my thinking. The Dawn jeans are designed for NON stretch denim and bottom weight fabric. They have a higher rise and fit snug at the hips. There are 4 views for the legs: A Tapered B Straight C Wide D Shorts All the views have different length options: regular, cropped and tall inseam. My specifics: * I made size 16 for all the views (34-44) * I divided the curved waistband to have side seams. * I needed extra space on the side seam below the yoke and above my full hip and used a 3/8" seam allowance there. * View D Shorts: added 2" to the length. * View C Wide leg: cropped length. Contrast patch pockets and innner hip yoke in faux leather (Never again!) * View B straight leg. Full tall inseam (I´m 5ft 8). I can cuff them to wear with heels. I won´t be making view A for now. The great experience with this pattern test drove me to make the Ash jeans, from Megan Nielsen also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lmj0BuiyZw&t=25s My zipper tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iF2yaCOs6U&t=530s Follow me on IG: https://www.instagram.com/liftingpinsandneedles Contact me: [email protected]
Line it! Ep. 2: Machine clean SLEEVELESS bodice lining PLUS options (Sewing Tutorial).

17:47
Hi sewing friends! I use this technique so often for many different types of garments on a weekly basis. As you all know, I am a SLEEVELESS type of gal! I make sleeveless tanks, dresses, blouses..... and most of them are lined. It looks just so much better than facing or hem tape, specially for sheer/thin fabric. This tutorial shows you step by step how I do things. Check it out. Sewing fail (S8093). A desert mammal makes its appearance on my culottes 🐪.

09:10
Link to Simplicity 8093 https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/women/sportswear/simplicity-pattern-8093-misses-sportswear-from-mimi-g-style/ As with many projects, they get cut out a long time before they get sewn. Unfortunately I cut these before making the Duet trousers by Love Notions. Making the pants gave me innumerable learning and new skills. I cut these without measuring them first (as you have seen me do with the other culottes). I made the culottes in a size 16 and whilst the fit on the hips and waist was good.... the crotch was too short and shallow for me. In hindsight, has I made the size 20 as per body measurement chart, the crotch would have been fine, but the culottes huge 😂.... can’t win here. I’ve been brainstorming to find a way to salvage these and I’ll show that when they are done. I’ll modify the pattern and try again with these, for sure!
