SolarFast: An Instructional Video

03:36
SolarFast: Sunlight-developed dyes for paper and natural fabrics SolarFast dyes are used to create photograms, continuous tone photographs, shadow prints, and ombrès on fabric and paper. SolarFast is also great for painting, tie dyeing, screen printing, stamping, batik and more! Shake well before use. Apply SolarFast to fabric or paper using a brush, sponge or brayer. While still damp, expose the design to sunlight and watch the color magically appear! Place objects on coated substrate to block development during exposure. Any object that casts a shadow will create a pattern. Use a film negative to create permanent photographs on paper or fabric. After exposure, wash out undeveloped dye with SolarFast Wash and hot water, agitating vigorously. Machine washing is recommended for textiles. Color development is not complete until after washing. SolarFast thins and cleans up with water. For screen printing applications, use SolarFast Thickener. Fabric/Fiber/Surfaces all artist papers, wood and natural fibers, including: cotton, linen, canvas, silk and hemp Sizes 4 fl oz/118 ml (Item JSD1) 8 fl oz/.24 L (Item JSD2) Also Available SolarFast Thickener 4 fl oz/118 ml (Item JSD1901) 8 fl oz/.24 L (Item JSD2901) SolarFast Wash 4 fl oz/118 ml (Item JSD1902) 8 fl oz/.24 L (Item JSD2902) SolarFast Film 8 sheet pack, 8-1/2" x 11" (Item JSD1000) For more information, visit www.jacquardproducts.com/solarfast.html

Printing with Cyanotype Fabric

03:03
Cyanotype Pretreated Fabric Sheets Cyanotype is an antique photographic printing process, developed in the mid 1800’s and distinctive for its rich blue color. Jacquard’s high-quality cotton sateen fabric sheets come pre-sensitized for cyanotype and ready to use, making sun printing easier than ever before. Just pull a sheet out of the package, place objects or film on top, expose to light, rinse and dry and you’ll have a rich, detailed print. Here’s how it works: when the cyanotype fabric is exposed to sunlight, a chemical reaction occurs. It won’t reveal itself, though, until you put the fabric in water. Then it will instantly turn blue! So how do you make a print? Place objects on the fabric to block the light: anywhere the sunlight doesn’t touch will remain white and leave a photographic impression on the fabric (this is called a “photogram”).To make prints of photographs, just print the photo onto a transparency* and place that on top of the fabric instead of an object. You can even make prints from drawings by first drawing on a transparency—the possibilities are endless! Exposure time depends on conditions, but is generally 3-15 minutes. Jacquard's New Marbling Kit: Freestyle Spanish Wave over the Birdwing

02:59
This is a somewhat advanced design. We start by dripping colors on the surface of the Marbling medium. Then we produce the Gel Get by moving the stylus top to bottom and then back and forth. This is the basis for many marbling designs. Then a Nonpareil is made by pushing the comb up perpendicular to the lines made by the Gel Get. Then move the comb slightly to the right and pull it back down, cutting each line made by the Nonpareil in half, producing the Chevron. Repeat this to get it over the surface of the whole design. A standard Spanish Wave starts at the corner and gives a draped fabric quality to the print in diagonal lines. Here I have started in the middle and freestyled my Spanish Wave, even changing directions at times. This gives a strange look to the folds, making the print more chaotic. The stiff nature of the Dura-lar film helps when doing the Spanish Wave. Floppier paper does not produce results this nice. Video was sped up to 150% to reduce run time. http://jacquardproducts.com/marbling-kit.html

Jacquard's Lumiere Palette Demystified

05:26
This video attempts to demystify Jacquard's Lumiere palette, which is made up of five different categories of color. This stunning assortment of metallic and pearlescent paints brushes on like butter and is designed not to spread. They allow for smooth application on soft or flexible surfaces like fabrics and uneven textures like Styrofoam. Lumiere colors can be bright, metallic or subtle, even on dark backgrounds. Their high pigmentation provides excellent coverage. http://www.jacquardproducts.com/lumiere.html At the end of the video, we breifly mention Lumiere 3D. Lumiere 3D is a pearlescent, metallic paint that works well as a bead glue, a super strong fabric glue and will firmly attach 'jewels' on surfaces. Based on our popular Lumiere line, this dimensional paint is perfect for embellishing, painting and writing on: T-shirts, greeting cards, scrapbooks, fabric, ribbon, leather, gourds, shoes, cell phones and much more! Lumiere 3D can be used directly from the bottle or with the addition of our fine line tips. It is completely washable after allowing the piece to dry for 72 hours. The true color develops when dry. http://www.jacquardproducts.com/lumiere-3d.html If you liked this video, make sure to like us on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/JacquardProducts

Jacquard Puff Additive

01:24
Jacquard Puff Additive is used to increase the relief of prints on paper, fabric and other surfaces. Simply mix a little of the additive into your Jacquard Screen Ink (up to 20%), print as usual and then apply heat to your print. The microspheres in the Puff Additive expand with heat, giving you a raised print only after heating. Once puffed, the print is washfast and dry cleanable. www.jacquardproducts.com/puff-additive.html www.jacquardproducts.com/ www.facebook.com/JacquardProducts Fabric/Fiber/Surfaces natural or synthetic fabric and paper, vinyl, metal and leather Sizes 4 fl oz/118 ml (Item JSI1300) 8 fl oz/.24 L (Item JSI2300) 16 fl oz/.47 L (Item JSI3300) quart: 32 fl oz/.95 L (Item JSIQ300) 1 gal/3.79 L (Item JSI4300) Easy Process Instructions Use: Add to Jacquard Screen Ink (JSI) up to 20% by weight. Mix thoroughly. Pot life of mixture is indefinite. Apply heat to print and ink will puff in all directions. For use on paper, fabric, and other surfaces. Finish: Puff Additive has a matte finish and will affect the semi-gloss finish of JSI in proportion to the amount added. Opacity: Puff Additive becomes opaque upon expansion and will opacify JSI in proportion to the amount added. Mesh Count: 80-305/inch (32T-122T cm) or according to ink specifications. JSI is recommended with mesh counts 80-160/inch (32T-64T cm). Drying/Curing: While print is wet, heat the entire ink deposit to 275˚F/135˚C using a hot air gun or oven to puff. Do not overheat. For best results, allow ink to air cure 72 hours once puffed before washing. Cleanup: Cleans up with water or mild detergent. CAUTION: Always test this product for washability and durability prior to production.

Screen Printing with Drawing Fluid and Screen Filler by Jacquard

01:14
Using drawing fluid to make a screen is very easy. You draw or paint the design directly on the screen, block out the rest with screen filler, and then rinse the drawing fluid out gently when the Screen filler is dry. You can also use screen filler to repair holes in photo emulsion screens. It gives a nice hand drawn look to your design. Also, there is more room for error when you use drawing fluid rather than photo emulsion because you can always add more screen filler to correct mistakes. Using drawing fluid is a great way to give your prints a hand-made or painterly look. http://www.jacquardproducts.com/screen-drawingfluid.html http://www.jacquardproducts.com/screen-filler-and-block-out.html http://www.jacquardproducts.com/silk-screen-supplies/ Make sure to like Jacquard Products on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/JacquardProducts

Jacquard's New Marbling Kit: Freestyle Spanish Wave over Stone Bullseye

02:40
This is our new and improved Marbling Kit with synthetic gall and real carrageenan. The image was printed on untreated .005 matte film Dura-lar from Grafix. The film is very translucent so you can see the printing process better than you can with paper. The marbling was done in a 11"x17" clear plexi tray on top of an Artograph Light Pad to illuminate the process. Each of the colors spread nicely and evenly. Sometimes when marbling you need to add colors in a specific order so they spread properly, but not with Jacquard's new kit. Add in any order, and get these beautiful bullseye patterns. Improved pigment load gives these crazy bright colors that are not easily achievable with traditional marbling. Jacquard Bleach and Discharge Systems

03:07
Bleach Thickener is used with bleach to produce a thickened paste for removing color. The paste can be painted or printed onto cellulose fabrics. The Bleach Thickener remains stable with bleach for 24 to 36 hours. Not recommended for protein fibers. Discharge Paste Discharge Paste is for removing areas of color from dyed natural fabrics. Sizes 8 fl oz/.24 L (Item CHM1330) quart: 32 fl oz/.95 L (Item CHM2330) 1 gal/3.79 L (Item CHM3330) Instructions Apply to fabric using a brush, stamp or silkscreen. When paste is dry, iron with steam (on setting appropriate for fabric type). Wash with Synthrapol or mild detergent to return fabric to its natural softness. Notes: - When discharging dyes, the color removed does not always turn the fabric to white. A completely different color may result. - Discharge paste works well with dyes on natural fabrics. - There are occasional fiber reactive colors which are not susceptible to color removal. Test samples should be prepared prior to production runs. Discharge/Reduction Agent is a strong color remover used as a discharge medium for a wide spectrum of dyes. It is also used as a strong reduction agent for the fixation of vat dyes. It is most commonly used in the printing processes. Screen Ink Discharge Additive helps achieve bright, vibrant screened colors on dyed dark fabrics without laying down an undercoat of white ink. Simply add to screen ink, screen and steam. This process helps retain a softer hand on fabric than is achievable with multiple layers of ink and reduces the amount of screening necessary. Works only on dyed fabrics. We recommend testing to ensure that the dye used in your fabric is dischargeable. Size 8 fl oz/.24 L (JSI2199) Instructions Add 7% by weight to Jacquard Screen Inks (2 tsp/4oz container) and mix thoroughly. Screen image and let sit for 30 minutes, allowing ink to dry slightly. Steam iron at the highest temperature appropriate for fabric for 1-3 minutes (or until image is fully developed). Inks can also be cured/activated immediately after printing in an industrial dryer for screen printers at the highest appropriate temperature for fabric. http://www.jacquardproducts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/JacquardProducts http://youtu.be/81zKbFtDmAI

Indigo Tie-Dyeing by Jacquard

01:57
Luscious indigo color in an easy to use form! The indigo blue color has played an important role in several cultures throughout history. There are an astounding number of books that are just devoted to this one dye. The famous Blue Men of Morroco are a north African tribe who dress from head to toe in indigo dyed fabric. Natural indigo takes a considerable amount of effort to get it into a working dye bath. First off, it is not soluble in water. So, you need to reduce it chemically with Sodium Hydrosulfite and lye. It is very involved and can be time consuming. As an alternative, we have developed a pre-Reduced Indigo. You still need to add Sodium Hydrosulfite, but the lye is replaced by Soda Ash. It only takes about 10 minutes to prepare the dye bath and you get the same unique results as with the regular indigo.

How to make "Hengua" with Jacquard's 100% Pure Jagua Powder

02:05
Add Jacqard's 100% Pure Jagua Powder to any henna recipe for instant "hengua." Shelf-stable, water-soluble powder, safe and 100% natural. Used to increase the potency of jagua gels, for creating jagua gel from scratch, or mixed with henna for “hengua.” Because it is soluble, Dehydrated Jagua Juice should be used as an additive for hengua and should not affect the water to henna ratio called for in the henna recipe. https://www.jacquardproducts.com/jagua-pure.html Approximate ratios for mixing jagua gel: - 2 parts jagua powder - 0.75 parts xanthan gum or other thickener - 3 parts water - 0.3 parts Eucalyptus Oil or other essential oil If you are prone to allergies or have sensitive skin, do a small test design and wait a day before proceeding with something more elaborate. Recommended ratios for "hengua": For a darker, faster-developing henna stain: use 0.25 oz/7g jagua per 1.76 oz/50g henna (1:7 by volume) For a deep burgundy stain: use 0.53 oz/15g jagua per 1.76 oz/50g (1:3.5 by volume) For a dark chocolate brown stain: use 0.88 oz/25g jagua per 1.76 oz/50g henna (1:2 by volume). Pre-dissolve in water or blend with henna powder to incorporate.

After the Drawing Fluid is dry, use squeegee to coat entire screen with a thin, even layer of Screen Filler. After Screen Filler is dry, spray cold water on both sides of the screen. The Screen Drawing Fluid will wash out and the Screen Filler will remain. Allow screen to dry before printing. Reclaiming the screen/Removing Jacquard's Screen Filler & Block Out: To remove the Screen Filler & Block Out, cover both sides of screen with paper towels and wet with diluted bleach. Always exercise caution when working with bleach. Allow to sit, while wet, for up to 20 minutes. Then spray both sides of the screen with cold water. Screen Filler & Block Out will soften and wash out. Note: If Screen Filler & Block Out is left on screen for more than five days, it will become increasingly difficult to remove. Repeat reclaiming process several times for best results. Always use common sense and good housekeeping when using Jacquard's products. Photo Emulsion Photo Emulsion is used with the Diazo Sensitizer to coat silk screens for photo imaging. Sizes 8 fl oz/.24 L (JSI2130) 16 fl oz/.47 L (JSI3130) Instructions Fill Diazo Sensitizer bottle half full with water. Replace cap and shake well. Add to Photo Emulsion and stir thoroughly. Replace lid on Photo Emulsion and let sit for 1-2 hours. Coat screen and let dry. Keep screen away from all light before exposing. Store Photo Emulsion in cool dark place. http://www.jacquardproducts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/JacquardProducts http://youtu.be/0RXx-mrKL0w http://youtu.be/uZN0iLLAaww

Printing Transparent Inks with a Discharge Additive as an alternative to Opaque Inks

01:57
Looking for a way to ensure your colors will pop on dark fabrics without laying down an undercoat of white ink? This break-through product will allow you to achieve bright, vibrant color on dyed dark fabrics! Simply add to your screen ink, screen and steam. This process helps retain a softer hand on your fabric than is achievable with multiple layers of ink and reduces the amount of screening necessary. Works only on dyed fabrics and we recommend testing to ensure that the dye used in your fabric is dischargable. Discharge Paste will remove most fiber reactive colors, direct dyes and acid dyes from fabric. As easy as 1-2-3! Apply, iron with steam and wash out. Jacquard Professional Screen Printing Inks are professional quality and permanent on most non-porous surfaces including: fabric, paper, plastic, vinyl, leather, metal and more! These inks break new ground with an appreciably longer open time in the screen in comparison to other water-based products making them perfect for small production runs. They screen beautifully with excellent resolution. Jacquard Professional Screen Printing Inks are particularly well suited for commercial applications and will not wrinkle paper when screening art prints. These inks are archival and lightfast. Cleanup is easy with just soap and water. Fabrics must be heat set for permanence and wash-fastness. Once set, the inks are fully washable and dry-cleanable on all natural and synthetic fabrics. Jacquard Products' complete collection of screen inks is available in 31 colors, plus an extender. The color line includes 18 semi-transparent inks, 4 metallics inks, 9 opaque inks and a CMY Process Color System. Jacquard Professional Screen Printing Inks are packaged in 4 oz. and 8 oz. sizes for smaller projects. Commercial studios will appreciate the 16 oz. and 1 gallon sizes for larger production runs. Jacquard Products has two screen printing kits featuring Jacquard Professional Screen Printing Inks that will appeal to beginners and professional screen printers alike. The Semi-Transparent Colors Screen Printing Kit is designed for printing on light backgrounds. The Opaque Colors Screen Printing Kit is designed for printing on dark backgrounds. 02:19
deColourant Mist: Jacquard’s non-bleach color remover in a mister bottle! deColourant Mist is a ready-to-use spray for removing areas of color from dyed natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, silk and wool. Unlike bleach, deColourant removes color without jeopardizing the integrity of the fiber. Create designs by misting through a stencil or around a found object. Then iron the design and watch the color vanish—deColourant is activated by heat. If you don’t like what you’ve done, just wash it out. Nothing happens until you heat the deColourant print. Jacquard's New Marbling Kit: French Curl with air bubble

02:24
This is a semi-traditional design using Jacquard's new marbling kit. Here I made a diagonal gel get with a swirl pattern, and then I added a French Curl in 3 spots, which is a fancy way of saying a made a spiral design with a stylus. A bubble got trapped in the design, but it added a lot of character with this 3D spherical figure in the center! it's easy to avoid that bubble altogether. You should lay the paper down center first and then let the sides drop to prevent bubbles under the design. Most bubbles do not turn out this great. Note: Video is sped up to 150% to reduce run time http://www.jacquardproducts.com/marbling-kit.html

Jacquard Presents: Color Discharge and Recharge

03:03
This video shows how Jacquard's Discharge Paste can be used to remove color from fabric and how Jacquard's Dye-Na-Flow can be used to re-color discharged areas without changing the feel ("hand") of the fabric. In this video, Dye-Na-Flow is applied through an airbrush. The Auto-Fade Pen is used to sketch on the design. The ink from the pen washes out after the first wash. Dye-Na-Flow is a concentrated liquid paint that is beautiful on any untreated fabric - natural or synthetic. Dye-Na-Flow spreads on fabric until it is thoroughly absorbed and even. On silk or cotton, the paint does not alter the feel of the fabric. Dye-Na-Flow is incredibly versatile for many applications. Heat set Dye-Na-Flow with a dry iron or set with Jacquard Airfix (an alternate means of fixing more commonly used in production runs). Techniques spray on tie dye, watercolor airbrushing, salt technique, spritzing through stencils, sponge printing, sun printing and simplified batik or wax resist effects (including the serti technique) On Jacquard's website: http://jacquardproducts.com/dye-na-flow.html Sun-Printing video: http://youtu.be/C8i5jYmTzvQ Discharge Paste is for removing areas of color from dyed natural fabrics. Click here for a short video showing how Discharge Paste can be applied: http://youtu.be/81zKbFtDmAI On Jacquard's website:http://jacquardproducts.com/discharge-paste.html Instructions Apply to fabric using a brush, stamp or silkscreen.
