Why the Littlefinger in Winterfell/him turning Arya and Sansa against each other storyline failed in Season 7 of Game of Thrones. *UPDATE:* This started as a "Preview" of a longer video I intended, but I subsequently realized that it covers all the points of the first half of the "full" Littlefinger video so well that I'd only be repeating myself to go over it. So I'm retroactively treating this as "Part 1 of 2" because it turned out so well, to be followed by "Part 2 of 2" jumping right in to the second half. Showrunner Blu-ray commentary explains why Dorne was changed, from Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones. SEE TRANSCRIPT BELOW. ---- Please help this translation project. Volunteer below if you know a non-English language well-enough to make subtitles for this, which I will add. English Transcript: David Nutter (episode director): "So this is in Croatia, off the coast of Sibenik. And Jaime feels they've gotten Myrcella, and it's all good to go from here. Indira's just a fantastic actress." David Benioff: "Yeah, she really is so Powerful. Another character we didn't expect to go beyond Season 4." Dan Weiss: "She showed up at Nina and Robert's [casting] office, and we were huge fans of hers from [HBO's] Rome. And we really hadn't planned on Ellaria being much more than an accessory to Oberyn. But as soon as we knew that Indira was up for it, we reconceived the part to make it something that hopefully is worthy of some of her talents - which are TREMENDOUS!" Paraphrase the last point as: *"We reconceived the role to make it worthy of [the actor]'s talents"* Images and footage of HBO's Game of Thrones used under the Freedom and Innovation Revitalizing U.S. Entrepreneurship Act of 2007: (IV) Public domain works; (V) Public interest work and research.

A Plea from Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson, co-authors with George R.R. Martin of "The World of Ice and Fire" sourcebook (2014), about the lack of any actual "Writers' Room" on Game of Thrones, and how showrunners Benioff and Weiss instead insisted on micromanaging the entire production...more than was humanly possible. Until they passed a breaking point, wore themselves out physically, and production quality noticeably suffered. Therefore, Elio and Linda (who also run the major fansite Westeros.org), put out a plea to any showrunners on upcoming Game of Thrones prequel projects, that they MUST have an actual writers' room with a FULL STAFF of writers. This is a clip from the end of their long video series speculating on the prequels. I've reposted this clip after asking for and receiving their direct permission. The original clip came at the end of the final video in a three part series Elio & Linda made speculating about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel projects: Intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgYV81be3ls Part 2: Spinoffs Beyond Westeros: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3nT5WLqgn8 Part 3, final: Spinoffs In Westeros (clip is from the very end): https://youtu.be/Qv1QQr5E60I?t=1h2m

Clip from the episode 5.10 Blu-ray commentary for Game of Thrones, in which showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss talk about the death of Stannis Baratheon - defeated by Ramsay Bolton and "20 good men" at Winterfell...when they cut out the entire subplot of Stannis successfully rallying the Northern lords against the Boltons from the books, and it seems like Stannis might actually defeat Ramsay in the novels. Plus a few other things they said in the episode 5.10 commentary to give it some context. *"We reconceived the role to make it worthy of [the actor]'s talents"* Images and footage of HBO's Game of Thrones used under the Freedom and Innovation Revitalizing U.S. Entrepreneurship Act of 2007: (IV) Public domain works; (V) Public interest work and research. A follow-up to the Empire of Ash faction profile on the "Free Holders", discussing how best to translate their name into non-English languages. List of tentative translations we've come up with so far (click "more" to see below): German: "Freie Bürger" (short for "Freie Provinzbürger") Dutch: "Vrijgeboren Titularis" French: "Franc-tenants" (short for "Franc tenant du titre") Spanish: "Libres Terratenientes"? "Propietarios"? "Terratenientes"? (Alianza mercantil)? Portuguese: "Burguesia Livre"? Italian: (L'Alleanza dei Mercanti)? Polish: "Wolni Włościanie" (vol-nee vuosh-cha-nye-ee) or "Konfederacja Kupiecka" (con-fed-er-ats-ya koo-PYE-tski)...or "Ziemianie"? (see comments) Finnish: Talonpojat Japanese: "Jiyu Tochi Syojisya"? (Literally: "Free-Land-Owners") Literal name emphasizes that the aristocrats who applied the name to them thought of power as coming from land-owning, not commerce; also that it didn't start out as a formal "rank". Other Japanese suggestions were "Syonin-Dan" ("Citizen-Rank" or "Citizen-Class") but that doesn't emphasize the land-owning aspect (deliberately inaccurate); also "Magister" is translated as "Gosyo" so "Gosyo-Dan" might work to literally describe "Magister-Class", "Merchant-Class"....though this would literally describe them, it loses the point that their name is inaccurate. And that they didn't start out as a formalized "rank" (dan) - above some but below others. Originally, the idea was that "all free born land-owners are equal and have a share in power", Valyria didn't start out with a stratified hierarchy. So I think the literal "Jiyu Tochi Syojisya" works best.

Benioff & Weiss at the Oxford Union panel audience Q&A promotional event one month before Season 5. Both were openly drunk. Jane Everyfan politely asks them about the "Jaime/Cersei rape scene" which they instigated a news blackout on for nearly a year, never even stating what their intentions were. This is the only response we can ever expect from them. Weiss *cracks a joke*. Benioff waffles around avoiding the question by repeating "the cast works really hard", and is careful never to use the word "rape" - because it wasn't intended as a rape scene, the implication that it was is simply due to stunningly bad camerawork they didn't catch before it aired. He's avoiding use of the word "rape" or saying anything definitive because he doesn't want to be TECHNICALLY caught lying. I hard-subbed the parts of actual substance he says: "He did that because we felt it was a thing he would do". MOREOVER, he's lying when he says "uh, to make him a grey character" - scene director Alex Graves was *specifically asked* that question 11 months before in a Vulture.com interview, and specifically denied that was ever their intention. Benioff closes by outright ROLLING HIS EYES at the girl who asked the question. Game of Thrones Wiki refuses to dignify this by saying a rape occurred "in-universe"; particularly because THE CAST MEMBERS THEMSELVES months later finally said they were never instructed it was a rape scene, NOR did they play it as such. For full breakdown analysis, please read our sub-article explaining this: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Breaker_of_Chains/Jaime-Cersei_sex_scene Check out the long convention panel segment I made on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mffGvqH4Ck4&lc=z23yvfh5ltndtvqdiacdp43bj2zimzxvknwpiakbgjpw03c010c The video clip itself is taken from the full Oxford Union panel, following the principle of Fair Use: it is being used for educational/critical analysis of Benioff and Weiss (also I tried to directly contact Oxford Union and they didn't respond to my e-mails).
