Academy of Design wins First Place at TÉLIO Design Competition

The Academy of Design encourages our students to participate in competitions and expand their horizons beyond the classroom. Recent graduate Aroosh Chaudhry won the first prize in this year's TÉLIO "Canada's Breakthrough Designer" Competition. "Canada's Breakthrough Designers" is an event hosted by TÉLIO which brings together twenty-two fashion design schools across Canada and challenges aspiring fashion designers to compete for one of five scholarships. Armoured Revolution is a multiplayer death-match style shooting game developed by Academy of Design's graduating students in the Video Game Design & Development program. Fashion Forward Fashion Show 2011 - Creativ Festival

This year during the CreativFestival Fashion Forward Dinner & Fashion Show Gala on Saturday, October 22 2011, designs by Academy of Design students were shown on the runway as the feature fashion show that night. The show was a smashing success. Special thanks to Paula Shneer, Robert Kennedy, Keith Richardson and all the other staff/faculty involved with the fashion show. We would also like to specially thank the Creativ Festival for providing us the opportunity and venue to showcase our students' work on their runway. We recently interviewed notable alumni from both our Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing & Merchandising programs. These talented graduates have achieved much success in their careers. Dennis Green is a Fashion Merchandising graduate from 2005 and is now VP of Sales for Line Knitwear. Lauren Sheriffs is a Fashion Merchandising graduate from 2008 and now co-runs her own t-shirt line plus is a social media specialist in the Fashion industry. Jason Meyers is a Fashion Design Graduate from 2003 and now owns his own clothing line and also was a finalist in the second season of Project Runway Canada. Mana Mojaver is a Fashion Design gaduate from 2007 and now manages her own line: Manam. Creativ Catwalk Winners 2010

An interview with the winners of Project Creativ Catwalk 2010: Gulmairam Amankogoeva, Julie Hodge and Mary Wright. This is the Academy's second consecutive win! Academy of Design students went up against other schools such as George Brown College, OCAD, and Seneca College. The challenge was to design a garment using the Canadian Arctic as inspiration. Team Academy created a garment inspired from ice and snow. They made a reversible cape with a hand drawn Inuit motif and dress reflecting the jagged edges of an iceberg.

Video Game Design & Development: Goldwing

Goldwing is a head to head fighter where dragons are the characters of choice. Designed for a maximum of four players, this PC game utilizes an Xbox 360 controller but players have the choice to use standard keyboard commands as well. With three beautiful levels to battle in, players can select one of four dragons: Skyshark, Gougon, Crucix, and Draco. Each dragon has it's own unique abilities to suit different styles of play. This video features exclusive behind-the-scenes development footage as well as interviews with a few key members of the student development team. See what James Reinelt, Trevelyan Des Rochers, and Kevin Moodie concerning their responsibilities for the project, and how they liked the Video Game Design & Development program. The Video Game Design & Development Diploma at the Academy of Design was the first program of its kind in Canada, and continues to be a leader in offering a comprehensive education that is highly regarded in the industry. The program blends creative and technical training to prepare graduates for careers as video game designers, app developers, special effects creators and more. The Fly Game

The Fly Game will be adapted into a flash game. It is the final project by Academy of Design's Video Game Design and Development students: Vanessa Trepanier, Steve Ball, John Purdy, Lucas Freeman, Kristina Scott, Fraser Adams, Josh Siydock, Trevor Nethery, Gena Pasko. The premise of the game is to help the main character "Frankie" navigate through a house to save fly babies and to overcome obstacles along the way.
