In today's video I want to talk about cancer and how to prevent it.
Cancer is a really terrible disease and also something I'm afraid of to be honest, so I see it as my mission to educate you in this regard and to show you some simple things you can start doing RIGHT NOW to decrease your risk of getting cancer.
The first thing that you need to know is that cancer is influenced by IGF-1, IGF-1 is also called "Insulin Growth Factor One" and is a hormone that is anabolic and induces growth.
So during our youth we need a lot of this hormone to grow and to just develop in a healthy way.
We still need that hormone of course, at our age, everything is about balance but the problem is that the amount of IGF-1 that is circulating in our bodies nowadays I just too much for most of us. With more and more time these high IGF-1 levels can cause diesease and faster aging.
Because IGF-1 induces growth it also induces growth of "bad" cells in our bodies, so if you already have some bad cell mutations, these mutations will grow and spread and over the years this can lead to cancer cells and tumors.
I don't want to scare you of course but it's still something we need to be aware of.
So what increases IGF-1 the most?
1) Diary and Milk Products. All diary products contain a high amount of the amino acid leucine, which activates IGF-1 the most. The irony is that cow milk contains around THREE TIMES MORE leucine than human milk.
I mean its quite logical, the purpose of milk is to make cow babies grow but why should we drink milk of another animal? Especially when we are already adults?
2) Meat and Fish also contain more leucine.
If you look at the Okinawa's for example, their diet just contained around 4% of animal products, so 4% of their daily calories came from animal products, which means around 60-100kcal a day!
Of course you can't just go with this one example but in reality all the blue zones (longest living populations) had around the same plant to animal product ratio in their diet.
3) Every isolated protein source that is processed contains more leucine and will be digested faster so that it will spike IGF-1 more, even plant based protein shakes and meat replacement-products.
That's the reason I will stop drinking protein shakes and just build muscle on a plant based diet to make sure I can mantain healthy IGF-1 levels and optimize my life more regarding longevity and slowing down the aging process.
But I don't want to scare you, everything I tell you is just a suggestion, what you do with that is totally your choice.
