Old-style folk song presented by Chang tribe at Hornbill Fest

01:21
Chang Naga tribals enjoy sing and feasting during Hornbill Festival. Chang is a Naga of Nagaland, India. It is one of the recognized Scheduled Tribes. The tribe was also known as Mazung in British India. Other Naga tribes know the Changs by different names including Changhai (Khiamniungan), Changru (Yimchunger), Duenching (upper Konyak), Machungrr (Ao), Mochumi (Sema) and Mojung (Konyak). Nagaland, 'The Land of Festivals' and the warm Naga people, lies in the North Eastern part of India. Historically, the Nagas are known as headhunters and have always been brave warriors. Sometimes Nagaland is also referred to as "The Switzerland of the East". The region is primarily hilly and has a pleasant climate all through the year. It is perhaps the best place for the adventurous at heart and makes an ideal place for trekking and camping. Also known as Paradise on earth The Dzukou Valley is the most famed valley of Nagaland and the natural beauty of the area is absolutely captivating. Another attraction for tourists is the Kohima War Cemetry. The cemetery is a tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives pushing back the Japanese army during the Second World War. The bodies of around 1,100 British and 330 Indian soldiers are buried here. One of the biggest cathedrals of North East India is located at Aradura Hill in Kohima. Its magnificent architecture makes it an important landmark of Kohima. The Hornbill Festival is named after the Hornbill, a large, magnificent forest bird. Held every year at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama about 12 kms from Kohima, the festival is held over a period of 7 days annually. The entire Heritage Village was built for the sole purpose of hosting this festival and the16 tribes of Nagaland each have their own representative hut in the village. Organized by the Govt. of Nagaland, the festival showcases the entire spectrum of the rich culture of the various naga tribes. The hornbill festival was created to bring together the various tribes of the State to display their culture and tradition in the form of dances, songs, sports, foods and many other colourful events. People from within India as well as foreign visitors experience and witness the colourful festival with great enthusiasm. Delicious, mouth-watering and typically Naga food from the different tribes is served in various huts or morungs. Each Morung also has its own restaurant, which serves their specific tribal delicacy. Rice beer is always in great demand and tourists don't mind standing in long serpentine queues for a taste of the same. Margaret's Waltz in the style of Aly Bain

04:07
Visit BluegrassDaddy.com for practice MP3s, tablature, and a measure-by-measure lesson. Margaret's waltz is an English tune. It was written by Pat Shaw on the retirement of Margaret Grant as president from the Devon EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) in 1959 and performed at the Sidmouth folk Festival. A dance was also composed in 1959 to accompany the tune. Aly Bain made it famous through a Boys of the Lough recording hence the reason why it is often thought of as from Shetland. The song became popular in Old Time circles due to the play of the late J. P. Fraley, a Kentucky fiddler who learned the song from Aly Bain.

FRENCH ACCORDION MUSIC Valse musette Yann Tiersen style - Jo Brunenberg accordeon acordeon Akkordeon

‘Valse de la Fermeture Définitive’ Sad song composed by Jo Brunenberg inspired by the disappearance of small local shops in France. A sad accordion. Une valse triste sur la disparition du petite commerce en France. Akkordeonmusik. Musica francesa acordeon. Sheet music: Free download at: http://www.jobrunenberg.com/music-videos With a photographic documentary in 4K resolution. Photographie – Fotografie – Fotografia – Photos – Fotos - фото Photography and music composition by Jo Brunenberg. Played on Ottavianelli accordion with LIMEX Microphone Sound System. Live recording, august 2014. In French towns and villages small specialized shops and family hotels are disappearing in a short timespan. Many shop windows of traditional butchers, bakers, caterers, etc. are empty or even boarded up. The arrival of huge supermarkets and hotel chains is a major cause of this phenomenon and the current crisis only accelerates this unfortunate development. This also eliminates the social function of small shops as a meeting place and also the craftsmanship often transferred from generation to generation gets lost. The musette Accordion was especially popular in Paris in the early 20th century and remains to be popular in France ever since. Joseph Colombo worked together with famous accordionists and composers like Gus Viseur and Tony Murena et son ensemble. Joseph Colombo was author of many great musette waltzes, of course including 'Indifférence'. André Verschuren composed various songs that became famous like Style Musette. Some famous interpreters of the Valse Musette are: Gus Viseur, André Verschuren, Emile Vacher, Albert Hennebel - Dany Moureaux etc. I am a great admirer of Yann Tiersen (born 23 June 1970). Yann Tiersen is a French musician and composer. His music is recognized by its use of a large variety of instruments in relatively minimalist compositions, often with a touch of either European classical music or French folk music, using primarily the piano, accordion or violin together with instruments like the melodica, xylophone, toy piano, ondes martenot, harpsichord and typewriter. His musical style, particularly when using toy and folk instruments is similar to Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Pascal Comelade, but his more serious work is reminiscent of Frédéric Chopin, Erik Satie, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman. Other famous tunes by Yann Tiersen: La Noyée, Comptine d'un autre été, Rue des Cascades, Le Banquet, a Quai, L laprès midi, La Valse d'Amelie, La Plage, La Dispute.

Naga style wrestling match!

06:32
This sport is played alongside many other small competitions at the Hornbill festival. The opponents try to drag each other down by holding the opponent by the belt just like in Sumo. The only difference here is that the rules aren't as strict. The game gets a good amount of audience each year and is quite popular at the festival. The game sometimes tends to get aggressive but the players are respectful towards the game and each other. This footage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of HD imagery from South Asia. 2014 Richmond Folk Festival Hawaiian

11:34
Led Ka’apana, George Kahumoku, Jr., & Richard Ho’opi’i Masters of Hawaiian Music Slack-key guitar, falsetto singing and the ukulele are among the musical traditions most strongly identified with Hawaiian cultural identity. Each of these three master musicians has devoted their lives to sharing, innovating, and perpetuating one or more of these quintessential Hawaiian living musical traditions. Ledward “Led” Ka’apana is a master Hawaiian slack-key guitarist, widely regarded as one of its greatest innovators. He is also renowned as one of the finest singers in the traditional falsetto style. A great ambassador for Hawaiian music, he was awarded the NEA National Heritage Fellowship in 2011, the nation’s highest honor for folk and traditional artists. Like Led, George Kahumoku, Jr. is a master slack-key guitarist known for virtuosic playing, in his case on a jumbo 12-string guitar, as well as his commitment to promoting Hawaiian music. An advocate for Hawaii’s diverse heritage, George farms and shares fresh produce with friends and students alike. Richard Ho’opi’i joined with his late brother, Solomon, to form The Ho’opi’i Brothers, who were also recipients of a National Heritage Fellowship (1996). Inspired by family, their distinctive sound was marked by its open, robust, and harmonic style of falsetto singing, or leo ki'eki'e, with characteristics carried over from ancient chant. They accompanied themselves on ukulele, an adaptation of an instrument brought to Hawaii by the Portuguese.

The First Bluegrass Music Festival - Asheville 1929

Get the entire film at https://www.createspace.com/204610. I spent a year searching for this wonderful old footage and finding folks who were there to experience these events, now long gone. My resulting one-hour documentary tells the story of Lunsford but goes beyond him to give a sense of these great musicians and dancers and how they struggled against prejudice. Folk dance performed by Kuki tribe at Nagaland's Hornbill Festival : Salu Laam

03:51
Kuki tribe performing during the Hornbill Festival at Naga Heritage village ,Kisama. Another attraction for tourists is the Kohima War Cemetery. Held every year at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama about 12 kms from Kohima, the festival is held over a period of 10 days annually.
