FUTURE WORLD: WHERE ART MEETS SCIENCE - Mori Art Museum ~ Teamlabs Digital Art

09:16
The exhibitions are world-class, focused mainly on contemporary culture, but the secrets of the Mori Art Museum’s success are location (part of the phenomenally popular Roppongi Hills), location (on the 52nd and 53rd floors of the Mori Tower, offering spectacular views) and location (within a two-floor ‘experience’ that includes a bar, cafe, shop and panoramic observation deck). One ticket allows access to all areas, and the late opening hours maximise accessibility. Exhibitions are deliberately varied, with past offerings including Bill Viola’s video art, a survey of the Middle Eastern art world and the periodic Roppongi Crossing group shows for Japanese artists. The vista from Tokyo City View isn’t quite 360°, and it’s expensive compared to the free Tokyo Metropolitan Government building observatory, but the views are arguably better, especially at night with a drink in your hand from Mado Lounge. If you don't mind paying an extra ¥500, you take a short elevator ride to the rooftop Sky Deck, and take in an even better – not to mention rather breezier – vista.

The Flights Of Icarus (1977) Art Book, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Surrealism.. Heavy Metal

15:43
The flights of icarus is a 1977 various artists art book compilation of science fiction pictures, fantasy and surrealism. Book by Donald Lehmkuhl, Roger Dean and others... Many of these photos have been used by heavy metal magazine and many groups of the era. Music: 01. Nazareth - Beggars Day Rose In The Heather (1975) 02. Led Zeppelin - Hats Off To (Roy) Harper (1970) 03. Black Sabbath - Orchid (1971) 04. *I am not the owner of this content but it this supposes a problem I will detelete it Immediately. *link: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1zXzB_YncuiZnA5QjNfMjJmeW8&usp=sharing "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. The Strongest Force In The Universe - Space Science Documentary

00:00
Shop Our Store: https://teespring.com/stores/space-the-universe-art A supermassive black hole is the largest type of black hole, containing a mass of the order of hundreds of thousands, to billions times, the mass of the Sun. This is a class of astronomical objects that has undergone gravitational collapse, leaving behind a spheroidal region of space from which nothing can escape; not even light. Observational evidence indicates that all, or nearly all, massive galaxies contain a supermassive black hole, located at the galaxy's center. In the case of the Milky Way, the supermassive black hole corresponds to the location of Sagittarius A* at the Galactic Core. Accretion of interstellar gas onto supermassive black holes is the process responsible for powering quasars and other types of active galactic nuclei.

Lost Art of the Pulps -- Science Fiction

05:20
American publishing has taken many turns in the last 200 years. One of the best periods for American writers and artists was the era of pulp magazines, those inexpensive magazines on cheap wood pulp paper that flourished from about 1920 to 1950, when the new infant television and mass market paperbacks finally froze them out. There were literally hundreds of pulps coming out weekly or monthly, selling for 10 cents or less, then 15 cents, and finally 25 cents each. It was a good time for beginning illustrators and writers. With so many covers needing art and so many pages to fill, the pulps offered a rich proving ground for newcomers, as well as a lush field for established writers and artists. This is another pulp genre that welcomed new writers and artists -- Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Merlion & ArtScience Museum - Family Tour Vlog (Day 1, 1st Half) | #EmAndEmilAdventures [HD]

12:21
Singapore is known for their world-class airport, amazing attractions, and hassle-free public transportations. We started our tour by taking our breakfast at the 100th store of Starbucks Singapore located near the Fullerton Hotel. Then, we went straight at the Merlion Park which is a 5-min walk from the famous coffee shop. Unfortunately, the Merlion park was covered for renovation or maintenance. It is an open park, so we didn't stay there for long due to the intense heat of the sun. After the Merlion Park, we went straight ahead to the ArtScience Museum by just walking. I purchased our tickets via Klook (https://www.klook.com/en-PH/activity/2501-marina-bay-sands-artscience-museum-singapore/) for a hassle-free entry. I'd suggest going here on a weekday and before lunch to avoid the arrival of many tourists. There were two attractions inside the ArtScience Museum with different rates. So, we only went for the "FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science" attraction. And, we were blown away by the beauty of it. I believed it's okay to skip the "Minimalism: Space. Light. Object." attraction. For this tour, I heavily relied on Google Maps. Of course, I'll trust the company I'm working for this kind of trip. ----------------- Related topics: Where is the 100th store of Starbucks in Singapore How to go to Merlion How to go to ArtScience Museum What to expect in ArtScience Museum Future World Is ArtScience Museum worth it #whenInSingapore #pinoyTravelVlog ----------------- All videos/photos were taken by using GoPro Hero 7 Black Video Editor: iMovie Endless Summer by extenz https://soundcloud.com/extenz Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... Who am I -- identity, race, science & art | Bart Vargas | TEDxOmaha

10:32
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Artist Bart Vargas always wanted to know about his lineage but traditional methods failed him. Thanks to the falling cost of genetic testing and a new art fellowship, he finally got some answers - and some surprises. Bart Vargas, from Bellevue, Nebraska, has exhibited nationally and internationally, and his work can be found in many collections throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. His works have also been featured in many publications including Sculpture magazine, New American Paintings, and HGTV Magazine. Vargas has received many awards including the 2012 Omaha Entertainment and Arts Award for Best Visual Artist. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

146 Years of Popular Science

03:01
We took 146 years of Popular Science illustrations and covers to animate a kind of PopSci universe—a timeline of great moments in science history! SUBSCRIBE! for more Popular Science on YouTube ►► http://pops.ci/yt-sub The cool thing about working for Popular Science is getting to say you work for a magazine that’s 146 years old. Think on that for a second. ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-SIX YEARS OF POPULAR SCIENCE. Einstein wasn’t even born when the first issue mailed out. (For the record, baby Al came on the scene in 1879—seven years after PopSci number one.) Well, we here at PopSci thought about all this and more. What we wound up exploring is what the universe looks like after 146 years of Popular Science. Because in the last century and a half of unprecedented discovery and advancement, PopSci has done more than just tell you about it in a magazine. We’ve taken up real estate in your brain and painted a picture of what the world—through those discoveries and advancements—truly looks like. So, we took 146 years of Popular Science art and illustrations to show you what we mean (also, Neil deGrasse Tyson may or may not eat Pluto in this video)… -Video by- Animation: Jason Drakeford Producer: Tom McNamara Producer: Eleanor Cummins Researcher: Lexi Krupp Researcher: Anna Brooks Thank you: Jane Goodall Institute, NASA As always, for more Popular Science go to www.popsci.com! #science #history #PopularScience #ElectromagneticWaves #HeinrichHertz #xray #WilhelmConradRontgen #Polonium #radium #MarieCurie #PierreCurie #firstflight #wrightbrothers #whitedwarf #atomicnucleus #gasmask #discovery #invent #flyingcar #Penicillin #antibiotic #pluto #clydetombaugh #volcano #nuclear #firstnuclear #laika #dog #spacedog #deepestpartofocean #ocean #janegoodall #primates #primatestools #platetectonics #apollo11 #space #firstman #firsthumans #moon #moonlanding #cleanairact #verarubin #darkmatter #universe #firstwhalefall #whalefall #apple #macintosh #firstapple #firstmac #mac #firstmacintosh #stevejobs #fossilembryo #dinosaur #dolly #clone #dollysheep #international spacestation #ISS #humangenome #pluto #dwarfplanet #NeildeGrasseTyson #lelandmelvin #ligo #gravitationalwaves #trappist1 #popsciart #art #animation #illustrations -Timeline- This is what the universe looks like after 146 years of Popular Science 1872 - Issue one of Popular Science 1886 - Electromagnetic waves confirmed by Heinrich Hertz 1895 - X-rays discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen 1898 - Polonium and radium discovered by Marie and Pierre Curie 1903 - First flight by the Wright Brothers 1910 - White dwarf first confirmed 1911 - Atomic nucleus discovered 1915 - Gas masks invented 1917 - Flying car first concept 1928 - Penicillin, the world’s first antibiotic, discovered 1930 - Pluto observed by Clyde Tombaugh 1931 - Scientists make a volcano erupt (for fun) 1945 - First nuke detonated 1957 - Laika, the first dog in space 1960 - Deepest part of the ocean explored (35,797 feet) 1960 - Jane Goodall shows how primates use tools 1963 - Plate tectonics confirmed 1969 - First humans on the moon (Apollo 11) 1970 - Clean Air Act passed 1970s - 1980s - Vera Rubin shows how dark matter interacts with the universe 1977 - First whale fall discovered 1984 - First Macintosh computer 1993 - Discovery of first fossil embryo of meat-eating dinosaur 1996 - Dolly the sheep is cloned 1998 - First part of international space station launched 2003 - Human Genome sequenced 2006 - Pluto downgraded to a “dwarf planet” 2009 - Astronaut Leland Melvin sneaks his dog into his official NASA portrait 2015 - LIGO detects gravitational waves 2017 - Trappist-1 Solar System discovered (including, maybe three future Earths?)

To understand is to perceive patterns - Science's marriage to Art produces Wonders

01:46
Ecstatic Illumination expressed as a non-commercial mashup. Where as once we were blind, now we can see. This is a PSA to infect you with AWE. Let it resonate. Patterns - Humanity's ever growing urge of reasoning through looking into and analysing for patterns. From Notthisbody By @jason_silva and @notthisbody - Follow us on Twitter! Featuring "Welcome To Lunar Industries" by Clint Mansell. Buy it on iTunes! INSPIRATION: The Imaginary Foundation says "To Understand Is To Perceive Patterns"... Albert-László Barabási, author of LINKED, wants you to think about NETWORKS: "Networks are everywhere. The brain is a network of nerve cells connected by axons, and cells themselves are networks of molecules connected by biochemical reactions. Societies, too, are networks of people linked by friendships, familial relationships and professional ties. On a larger scale, food webs and ecosystems can be represented as networks of species. And networks pervade technology: the Internet, power grids and transportation systems are but a few examples. Even the language we are using to convey these thoughts to you is a network, made up of words connected by syntactic relationships." 'For decades, we assumed that the components of such complex systems as the cell, the society, or the Internet are randomly wired together. In the past decade, an avalanche of research has shown that many real networks, independent of their age, function, and scope, converge to similar architectures, a universality that allowed researchers from different disciplines to embrace network theory as a common paradigm.' Steven Johnson, author of Where Good Ideas Come From, writes about recurring patterns and liquid networks: "Coral reefs are sometimes called "the cities of the sea", and part of the argument is that we need to take the metaphor seriously: the reef ecosystem is so innovative because it shares some defining characteristics with actual cities. These patterns of innovation and creativity are fractal: they reappear in recognizable form as you zoom in and out, from molecule to neuron to pixel to sidewalk. Whether you're looking at original innovations of carbon-based life, or the explosion of news tools on the web, the same shapes keep turning up... when life gets creative, it has a tendency to gravitate toward certain recurring patterns, whether those patterns are self-organizing, or whether they are deliberately crafted by human agents" Patrick Pittman from Dumbo Feather adds: "Put simply: cities are like ant colonies are like software is like slime molds are like evolution is like disease is like sewage systems are like poetry is like the neural pathways in our brain. Everything is connected. "...Johnson uses 'The Long Zoom' to define the way he looks at the world—if you concentrate on any one level, there are patterns that you miss. When you step back and simultaneously consider, say, the sentience of a slime mold, the cultural life of downtown Manhattan and the behavior of artificially intelligent computer code, new patterns emerge." James Gleick, author of THE INFORMATION, has written how the cells of an organism are nodes in a richly interwoven communications network, transmitting and receiving, coding and decoding and how Evolution itself embodies an ongoing exchange of information between organism and environment.. (Its an ECO-SYSTEM, an EVOLVING NETWORK) "If you want to understand life," Wrote Richard Dawkins, "don't think about vibrant, throbbing gels and oozes, think about information technology." (AND THINK ABOUT NETWORKS!! Author Paul Stammetts writes about The Mycelial Archetype: He compares the mushroom mycelium with the overlapping information-sharing systems that comprise the Internet, with the networked neurons in the brain, and with a computer model of dark matter in the universe. All share this densely intertwingled filamental structure. The Art and Science of Mindfulness with Dr. Shauna Shapiro

48:22
Consciousness Hacking Meetup: San Francisco, November 28th, 2016 Dr. Shauna Shapiro - scientist, author, and world renowned mindfulness expert - guides us at the razors edge where the science and practice of mindfulness meet. And there are few people in the world more qualified to take us there. Shauna weaves 20 years of deep meditation practice with over 150 scientific articles. She's been featured in Wired magazine, was hosted by Google, has been honored by the Dalai Lama's Mind and Life Institute, and has published multiple critically acclaimed texts including the The Art and Science of Mindfulness, and Mindful Discipline: A loving approach to setting limits and raising an emotionally intelligent child. Dr. Shapiro will use ancient wisdom and modern science to examine the mechanisms through which mindfulness can help us change, learn, and grow. We’ll discover how a limited understanding of mindfulness as a cognitive-attentional practice can inadvertently backfire — and what we can do to manifest its true benefits. Dr. Shapiro will introduce a model of mindfulness which focuses on the importance of the attitude with which we pay attention. When we weave together our attitude and intention with attention, true learning and transformation can take place. Finally, guided by a central theme of neuroplasticity -- what we practice grows stronger -- we will inquire deeply into the essential questions: What do we want to practice? What do we want to grow? ~ Shauna Shapiro, PhD, is a professor, author, and internationally recognized expert in mindfulness. With twenty years of meditation experience studying in Thailand, Nepal, and in the West, Dr. Shapiro brings an embodied sense of mindfulness to her scientific work. She has published over 150 journal articles and chapters, and coauthored the critically acclaimed texts, The Art and Science of Mindfulness, and Mindful Discipline: A loving approach to setting limits and raising an emotionally intelligent child. Dr. Shapiro is the recipient of the American Council of Learned Societies teaching award, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to graduate education, as well as a Contemplative Practice Fellow of the Mind and Life Institute, co-founded by the Dalai Lama. Dr. Shapiro has been invited to present her work to the King of Thailand, the Danish government, and the World Council for Psychotherapy in Beijing, China, as well as to Fortune 100 Companies including Cisco Systems, Genentech and Google. Her work has been featured in Wired magazine, USA Today, Dr. Oz, the Huffington Post, Yoga Journal, and the American Psychologist.
