To find our more about how YOU can help bring this vision to life, check out our Kickstarter campaign here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/98335079/nomad-a-short-film?ref=user_menu Today we join our Sound Recordist/Editor, as she finds out what it's like to be Nomad's Assistant Editor. Nomad has been the brain child of our director, Ryan Kenwrick, for the past year. In this time Ryan has been nurturing the idea and developing the script. We join our characters as their activities on a new, beautiful planet begin to impact the wellbeing of this world, where they have been sent with the task of rebooting the human race, by starting a colony with thousands of embryos that have made the long trip with them. As tensions rise and secrets emerge, one crew member decides that humanity does not deserve their second chance. The human race, in their eyes, is not worthy of survival as a species. A plan is set out to sabotage the mission and destroy the precious embryos. #BCPCWest Post Talks: Being an Assistant Editor in Scripted TV

01:59:40
We're kicking off our #BCPCWest educational events for 2017 with a highly demanded topic: being an assistant editor in scripted television! New York is holding a similar panel the week before -- it's such a good idea that we're doing it in LA too. In a town hall style discussion, we'll hear about the experiences of four Los Angeles-based assistant editors as they built their careers in scripted television. We'll discuss what it takes to make the leap into scripted, how to climb the ladder, what AEs need to know and understand about the politics and technology in the edit room, how TV and features may differ, and lots more. We'll be taking questions from the live stream and Twitter. PANELISTS: Monica Daniel, assistant editor: Preacher, Colony, Supergirl, The Blacklist: Redemption Richard Sanchez, assistant editor: Last Man on Earth, The Good Place (movies: Suicide Squad, Tangerine) Shiran Amir, assistant editor: The OA, Fear the Walking Dead Josh Kirchmer, assistant editor: Vice Principals (movies: Goosebumps, Expendables 3) Moderated by Ashley McKinney, assistant editor and co-host of The Cutaways Podcast Graphics Credit: Rosie Walunas If you're in Los Angeles, we strongly encourage to attend in person to get the benefit of meeting and talking to panelists one on one: https://goo.gl/VsIOjM This event is free but if you are able, consider a donation to the BCPC Professional Development Accessibility Program. Money raised will help us enable low-income post production professionals to have equal access to conferences, trade-shows and other major events. ____________________________________________________________________ The Blue Collar Post Collective is an accessible and focused grassroots non-profit organization. Ispani - Episode 14 - Assistant Fashion Editor

48:18
Contributing to the economy and job creation isn't something that jumps to mind when you look at a fashion spread in your favourite magazine or website...but changes in fashion help keep designers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers of fashion and footwear in business...and this provides work for stylists, models, photographers and fashion publications...media, either print or web-based, benefit from advertising revenue and the cycle keeps a great many people in work. We are all familiar with famous fashion designers and we all tend to follow fashion trends, but for a certain breed of people fashion is an all-consuming passion...for them fashion is the air they breathe... If you are a keen fashionista but don't have a desire to design but still want to influence trends then working as a fashion editor is an ideal career...the job of a fashion editor is to supervise the development, creation and presentation of all fashion related content in magazines, newspapers and websites...they work under the guidance of an editor-in-chief and are responsible for finalising the creative influence and direction that their fashion department will cover in that edition or across that season... They oversee a team that includes photographers, stylists, models and writers...they define the "look" based on their fashion knowledge which they gather through attending designer showcases, manufacturer and retailer shows and international exposure...so yes, this can be one of those jobs where you travel to Paris, New York and the fashion capitals of the world once you have made your name... So move over Anna Wintour we have some iSpani Hustlers ready to show you how we style on Msanzi as Tshepo Mosokotso shows us what fashion is all about.

Editors Canada presents: Are you editor material?

02:01
Do you have the right outlook to be an editor? Ask yourself the following questions. 1. Do you have a burning desire to fix other people's prose? 2. Does the very sight of a minor grammatical error put you into a rage? 3. Whenever you see something written do you know you could have written it better? 4. Are you compelled to correct your friends' grammar without being asked? 5. Do you carry a marker to correct signs? If you answered yes to any of these, you are almost certainly *not* editor material. In our latest video, James Harbeck tells us what editor material really is. Do you have what it takes?

The Dangers of Financialization

19:44
TIME magazine assistant managing editor Rana Foroohar’s book Makers and Takers sounds an important note of warning on the dangers of financialization of the U.S. economy. She reveals that the financial system no longer funds new ideas and projects — only about 15 percent of the money coming out of financial institutions goes into business investment; the rest is spent buying and selling existing financial instruments. That’s why $4 trillion worth of monetary stimulus that followed the 2008 financial meltdown has failed to produce anything more than anemic growth. In this video, she discusses her book, and its implications for the economic policy challenges facing America’s decision-makers, with Institute president Robert Johnson.
