BIGGEST Salvage Projects In The World

10:04
From the Deepwater Horizon Rig event to giant abandoned ships; these are the BIGGEST Salvage Projects in The World ! Check me out on Facebook- http://bit.ly/2isFYRd There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat ! 7.MV Cougar Ace | Alaska The Singaporean vessel Cougar Ace is primarily used for transporting cars from Japan to North America. In 2005, it set a record for most cars unloaded from a ship in Canada. Kind of a weird record, but hey, who are we to judge? A year later, Cougar Ace was carrying 4,812 brand new cars, about 97 % being Mazdas. In total, the cargo was valued at $117 Million… Well during an exchange of ballast water, the stuff that keeps boats balanced and stable, the Cougar Ace tipped 60 degrees to port . Which means the ship looked like - This. With some luck, Titan Salvage were able to tug the ship to Unalaska Island, where it was finally “righted”, meaning the ship was no longer tilted, then it was towed to Portland, Oregon for inspections and repair. This incident was quite the nightmare for Mazda. At first, they said the cars would be not be sold as brand new, but after testing the safety of the cars, the company decided to scrap every...single...one.. 6.MV Baltic Ace | Netherlands 5.MV Rena | New Zealand The MV Rena was a container ship with a capacity for 3,351 containers of whatever you want to transfer globally. With an engine that had a max output of 29,497 horse power, this 38,000 ton, 106ft(32m) long ship was built in 1990 and served multiple companies throughout the years. In October 2011, the MV Rena ran aground on the Astrolabe reef near the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand. This was already very bad for the local environment and reef, but things got even worse when the Rena started leaking oil. Because of bad weather, the crew of 20 was evacuated, when the ship started shifting. A few days later, the oil spill was declared the worst maritime environmental disaster of New Zealand, and people were rightly pissed. A few days later, the ship was sitting at a 20 degree tilt, and 88 of the cargo containers fell into the sea. In January 2012, the ship finally succumbed to the sea and broke in 2. By 2014, 77% of the cargo was removed, and major parts of the ship were salvaged. So what is happening today? NOTHING. The ship owners were allowed to abandon the rest of the wreckage, with the stipulation that they will have to pay for ongoing clean up costs, and for the damage the ship has done to the local environment. 4.MV Drake | Australia 3.Deepwater Horizon Rig | USA 2.Chittagong Ship Breaking Yard | Bangladesh Well here is a business of.. Opportunity? In 1960 the ship MD Alpine was beached and abandoned on the shores Chittagong, Bangladesh, a local company purchased the ship and started the scrapping project. The ship was pretty big, and most of the work was done by hand, so the project took years to complete, but it was also the birth of the the ship breaking industry in Bangladesh. Nowadays, the brutal and unsafe work conditions have not changed, but the landscape sure has. 1.Costa Concordia | Italy The Costa Concordia was a beautiful cruise ship that cost some $500 million dollars to build, its maiden voyage was on June 29th,2006, and not even 6 years later, the Costa Concordia was involved in a tragic accident off the coast of Isola del Giglio. The accident was pretty straight forward, the Costa Concordia hit a rock, a 174ft (53m) gash was opened up on the port side of the hull. All power was lost and the ship drifted towards the shore and rolled towards the starboard side. After rescue operations were over, it came time to figure out what could be salvaged from the ship. Smit International, a salvage company assessed that the best course of action was the total write off of the ship as a constructive loss, they were contracted to remove the fuel from the ship. In 2013, the ship was finally brought back to a vertical position, and the salvage costs rose up to $799 million in total. At which point I assume the people doing the estimates said to themselves “Screw it, lets just round up to $800 million”. In 2014, the ship was refloated and prepped for towing, estimates for the total cost rose to $2 Billion. In July 2017, the final pieces of the Costa Concordia were scrapped and recycled, finishing the story of this tragic event.

What is SEA CHEST? What does SEA CHEST mean? SEA CHEST meaning, definition & explanation

What is SEA CHEST? What does SEA CHEST mean? SEA CHEST meaning - SEA CHEST definition - SEA CHEST explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A sea chest is a rectangular or cylindrical recess in the hull of a ship. The sea chest provides an intake reservoir from which piping systems draw raw water. Most sea chests are protected by removable gratings, and contain baffle plates to dampen the effects of vessel speed or sea state. The intake size of sea chests varies from less than 10 cm² to several square metres. When the ship is in freshwater, the hard steel surfaces of the sea chest, protective grates and baffles, combined with low water velocities created in this immediate area, provide a suitable environment for zebra mussel attachment. Zebra mussel infestations have been found to clog the individual intakes and gates of the various water piping systems, decreasing the availability of water for onboard operations, which could result in damage to engines and other components that require water for cooling. Sea chests are, therefore, considered to be the most susceptible component to serious infestation. Control strategies include coating all surfaces with an antifoulant such as copper-based epoxy paint or hot-dip galvanizing. Periodic inspection and replacement of grates and screens also reduces the risk. Increasing the size of the sea chests by 20% to 30% may delay the onset of serious problems that could force an engine shutdown. Thermal treatment is a highly effective strategy for the control of zebra mussels (McMahon et al. 1995). Thermal treatment may include retrofitting a closed loop system to recirculate the heated water to the sea chest or the addition of a second sea chest system, allowing engine cooling water to be discharged through the idle sea chest. Recirculation of engine cooling water as a thermal control strategy has proved extremely effective in controlling zebra mussels (Palermo 1992, U.S. Coast Guard 1994).

Inside Oil Tankers - Documentary Films

45:04
CLICK HERE - http://activeterium.com/1DCR - FOR MORE FREE DOCUMENTARIES Inside Oil Tankers - Documentary Films All over the world, tanker operations are constantly moving. Oil tankers are ships specially designed for the bulk transport of either unrefined crude oil or petrochemicals. Their size classes can range from coastal or inland tankers of a few thousand metric tons of deadweight (DWT) to a colossal amount of 550,000 DWT. These giant specialized ships transport approximately two billion metric tons of oil across the sea every year. Crude oil is one of the world's most consumed sources of energy. Oil tankers, therefore, play a significant role in the way the country operates. Because of the products they are built to carry, without proper maintenance, these mammoth ships of black gold can also pose a threat on the environment. To ensure that an oil tanker does not severely impact the environment, oil companies must employ an expert and highly experienced ship management service to oversee tanker operations. They must also routinely check their oil tankers for maintenance purposes. Fixing the smallest dent, scratch or crack can mean the difference between safe sailing across miles of seawater and a devastating oil spill. On board the ship, safety measures should be strictly imposed. Because of the hazardous - and often flammable - nature of the materials being transported, the possession of flammable objects should be avoided if not prohibited entirely to avoid accidents, which can threaten the lives of the people on the ship, as well as the surrounding marine life. Whether at sea or anchored at a dock, tanker operations and safety measures should still be strictly implemented to prevent the ship from negatively affecting the environment.

DUBLINERS by James Joyce - FULL Audio Book | Greatest Audio Books

06:40:13
DUBLINERS by James Joyce - FULL Audio Book | Greatest Audio Books - Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written when Irish nationalism was at its peak and a search for a national identity and purpose was raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences. They centre on Joyce's idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character experiences self-understanding or illumination. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyce's novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by child protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people. This is in line with Joyce's tripartite division of the collection into childhood, adolescence, and maturity. Milwaukee: A City Built on Water | Program |

53:23
[Original Airdate: April 22, 2015] Historian John Gurda explores how the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan spurred Milwaukee's growth. The settlers used rivers and Lake Michigan to transport grain, lumber, leather and beer, but water was just as important for play as it was for work. Gurda explains how the Milwaukee River became a destination for fun. Learn how the lower Milwaukee River was eventually reduced to an open sewer by 1900, with Lake Michigan suffering similar indignities. Only in recent decades have the currents turned for the better. From the Milwaukee River Greenway to the reborn Menomonee Valley to the cultural theme park on our downtown lakefront, the patterns of the past are being reversed, providing cause for celebration as well as concern.

Accounting for externalities | Dee Boersma | TEDxRainier

17:04
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this important, informative and impassioned talk, Dee Boesma makes the case for considering the costs that other species and our environment bears in exchange for much of the profits our companies make. Dubbed the “Jane Goodall of penguins” by the New York Times, seabirds are Dee Boersma’s passion. She considers penguins “marine sentinels,” sounding the alarm on environmental threats to ocean ecosystems. For over 30 years, she has been the director of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s study of Magellanic penguins at Punta Tombo, Argentina, home of the world’s largest colony of Magellanic penguins. Boersma and her students follow the lives of individual penguins, monitor the colony, and develop the data needed to plan effective conservation efforts. In the Galápagos Islands, she is building “condos” to increase the Galápagos penguin population. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Free video about diving. This free video was created for you by http://epsos.de and can be used for free under the creative commons license with the attribution of epSos.de as the original author of this diving video. Thank you for supporting the creative commons movement !! The scuba diving is usually to stay underwater, breathing, or using a hookah, or more often by equipping an aqualung. Specific equipment typically consists of a wetsuit, a mask of flippers, a ballast worn on a belt or integrated into a BCD with a direct system, and a scuba tank containing generally compressed air around 200 bars. The gas is supplied to the plunger via a valve. Measuring instruments are used to control the dive: pressure gauge and dive computer. Until the advent of the dive computer, we used a depth gauge, an instrument for measuring time and decompression tables. This article focuses on scuba diving, which is largely the most widespread in the world from 1950-60. Open circuit the gases are those which are expelled to the outside at each end of the plunger (production of bubbles). The gases remain in the closed circuit diver and equipment are "recycled" with each exhalation. The apparatus eliminates some components of expired gas, and introduces other, to produce again the breathable gas into the same feed circuit (little or no production of bubbles). The main factor affecting the human body is submerged pressure exerted by the water. It increases with depth: while we are subjected to a pressure of about 1 bar in air at sea level (atmospheric pressure), the weight of the water above the submerged diver subjects the -C to additional pressure of about 1 bar every 10 meters in sea water and about 0.98 bar every 10 meters in fresh water. Reflexes are dwindling, the mind goes numb; the plunger of the judgment are impaired to the point of causing euphoria, irrational fears and behaviors that lead to the accident (thus speaks of narcosis). It is this toxicity that sets the limit of the practice of scuba diving to 60 meters for all. The freediver descends with an iron, a weighted device weighing between fifteen and thirty pounds, attached to the cable and can move vertically. Depending on the pig, the descent can be controlled by a brake. The recovery is possible thanks to the parachute, a balloon filled with freediving with air cylinder. The body, in the end diving and even more so that the plunger moves, has an intense need oxygen while the latter is scarce. The first organ is the brain to react: the lack of oxygen causes syncope. The human body has adaptive features to the marine environment. Thus certain reflexes, found in marine mammals, can be developed through training. Diving in tandem allows the diver remained on the surface to prepare for its next run, while not leaving his fellow eyes in order to quickly respond to the problem. Ideally, any diver should be competent in rescue. It is dangerous to hyperventilate before diving. Hyperventilation is more than 15 breaths per minute. It creates an imbalance between the oxygen and the carbon dioxide in the body and increases the heart rate. Proper ventilation allows a maximum oxygen saturation and a low heart rate. It is attained by slow, deep breathing. This very particular activity practiced the descent into the depths of the sea to free lung, ie without traditional diving equipment such as snorkeling. Also called incorrectly snorkeling to any type of tube that allows gas exchange between a submerged in the liquid medium (usually water) and the object atmosphere. There are several types of snorkels, depending on the specific role: some breathing underwater while diving, or to allow the exhaust of a motor vehicle while fording a river, or the aforementioned snorkels of submarines. Whatever the term used to designate the breathing tube or snorkel often used in freediving coupled to a diving mask affixed to the face to see underwater and diving fins placed on the feet to propel. A hook annularly placed around the pipe allows you to set the ventilator to the strap that secures the mask to the diver's head tube. At the lower end of the tube, a nozzle can be adapted rubber teeth and mouth shape to tightly grip the tube and thereby prevent the swimmer swallow water. Cold water one may need wetsuit. Combining these elements, the esnorquelista underwater world can be observed over long periods of time with relatively little effort. Thank you for supporting the creative commons movement !!

Dubliners Audiobook by James Joyce | Short Stories with subtitles

06:38:26
Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. Does knowing who we were in the past help us resolve it and sublimate it? But where is the past? How is the past kept in the invisible plane? What importance does it have for our present and future? Is it possible to gain access and change it? The possibility of creating our own present and future, in addition to transforming our past through our abstract mind. INCRÍVEL: O maior navio do mundo: Triple-E - Energia, Eficiência e Proteção Meio-Ambiente

43:57
