English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip

07:08
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.
Essential Items You Need To Pack For A Short Business Trip

What are your short business trip must haves? https://gentl.mn/business-trip-essentials #howtopackforabusinesstrip #businesstripessentials #notsponsored HOW TO PACK YOUR CARRY-ON LIKE A PRO: https://gentl.mn/2xNeCgd SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Madder Silk Tie in Dark Ruby Red - https://gentl.mn/2H6Y4Aa 2. Pocket Square with Monogram Initial Classic White Irish Linen - https://gentl.mn/2JR8xl1 3. Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Grey and Turquoise Green - https://gentl.mn/2H4bHnP OTHER GUIDES YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS! Trench Coat Guide: https://gentl.mn/2qCkind How To Pack A Suitcase For A Business Trip: https://gentl.mn/2qEpGFD What To Wear To An Interview: https://gentl.mn/2H74Ee8 16 Overcoat DO’s & DON’Ts: https://gentl.mn/2H70bno First of all, it starts with a choice of the right suitcase or carry-on. Personally, I'm a big fan of wheels especially four wheels, not the two wheels, because you can easily maneuver them with one hand. Also, I prefer stiffer suitcases so I can put it back on top of it without it collapsing on me. So when you start packing, I suggest to first lay everything out on your bed or maybe on a carpet, on a clean space where we have a good overview. So what shoes to bring for a business trip? Black is the ultimate color. I suggest you go with a black cap toe Oxford. Alternatively, you can also go with a black oxford half brogue or black oxford quarter brogue. A little bit of broguing makes it a little less formal, at the same time, it's perfectly appropriate for everything. Now the second pair to bring is a dark red or oxblood burgundy colored dress shoe. It could either be a tassel loafer and you could travel with that because it's easy to take on and off when you're through security or you could go with a Derby shoe or maybe even an oxford. Next up, I suggest bringing two to three dress shirts. Even if you're just going on a one day trip, there's always a chance that someone will spill something on you and it's much better to have something that you can change into than having to figure out where you can have it dry-cleaned. Next up is a suit. There's probably no other garment that is more business appropriate than a dark suit. If you have to pick one, I suggest to go with a navy worsted suit, ideally single-breasted with notch lapels, either one button or two buttons, side vents, maybe some cuffs at the bottom of pants so they pull down the pants and prevent any potential wrinkles. In terms of weight, I'd go for a three-season weight. If you want just one all-rounder, you can also opt for something with an open weave. That way, you feel the breeze because sometimes when you're in an office environment, it can get quite hot but you know yourself if you're likely to overheat or if you feel cold all the time. When it comes to accessories I think a necktie is essential especially in a classic business environment. If you're a little more flamboyant or if you are maybe independent or in an area where dress codes are a little more relaxed, you can also go with a bow tie, otherwise, I suggest to stay with a classic necktie. A pocket square can really help to make your outfit look more polished. So if you have a white shirt, a white linen pocket squarw especially in a TV fold or a crown fold, it can add a finishing touch. You can find a selection of all kinds of pocket squares as well as regular neckties and bow ties in our shop here. When it comes to cufflinks I suggest to go with a simple pair such as a monkey fist knot cufflink in silver gold. Skip the colored enamel cufflinks as well as the gemstone or diamond cufflinks. Next up is a toiletry kit. I suggest keeping a small bag that you can easily remove at any point in time because sometimes at security, you have to remove it depending on your status. To save on space, definitely go with travel sized items and don't bring your regular size aftershave shaving cream or toothpaste. So last but not the least, something that you don't pack but I suggest you always bring is either a type of overcoat in the winter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Top 5 Travel Tips and Tricks (Road Trip) | Travel Hacks and Tips | Askme

03:35
AskMe Presents Top 5 "Travel Tips and Tricks" (Road Trip) by Vir Sanghvi, Enjoy these Travel Hacks and Tips on AskMe Guru. How to plan a 'Road Trip' or a long vacation especially with kids and children aboard? Here travel expert Vir Sanghvi would share tips and tricks to any of you who are planning a road trip, as well as share the road trip essentials. Road trips are one of its kind adventures; you are always going to treasure. These are those moments when you step out of your comfort zone and still enjoy them with utmost pleasure. To avoid discomfort during your trip follow these tips given by travel Guru Vir Sanghvi: 1. Road is the Destination: Sometimes roads bring more delight to the trip than the destination. So plan everything in advance, pull-over and enjoy the wonderful routes. 2. Say Cheese: No trip is complete without clicking pictures. Photography is indispensable from any trip, so stop and click pictures when you see anything exciting. Make memories and preserve them, do not miss anything. There will come a time when you'll give a heartfelt smile because of those photographs. 3. The tiny toddlers: When you're traveling with your family, make sure your kids don't get bored. The toddlers are impatient and will keep on asking whether you've reached your destination or not. Be equipped with all the stuff that'll entertain them like books, DVDs and laptops along. 4. Be sure you're safe: Avoid traveling during nights as roads are not safe. There are truck drivers traveling via highways, and if you visit any hill-station, it might be possible that your road is blocked due to fog. And relying on GPS is a good idea neither, carry physical maps along. Also, have a First-Aid box at your disposal. Crisis management is highly recommended. 5. Nosh on the best food: The best food is not found in the 5-star hotels but on the highways. For instance, you find delicious North Indian food in Punjabi dhabas and exotic South Indian food in small shops of Kerala. It may vary according to place you're traveling. So plan in advance and stop at right places to have some tantalizing food. Plan an amazing road trip and you'll never have to regret it, if you follow the aforementioned advices. Is Kenya Safe? | Through The Eyes Of A Local

Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/curiosityculture Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/harshilpatel92/ Fun Fact: I was born in Kenya. When I tell people I was born in Kenya, the frequently asked question I get asked is.. IS KENYA SAFE? But the problem with me answering this question is that my parents who lived there for 16 years only surrounded themselves with other Indians. So their perception is skewed to some degree. And I moved to America when I was 3, so I barely remember anything. But I was still curious to answer this question, so I connected with a local who has lived in Kenya her whole life to help me answer this question: Is Kenya safe? Top 5 Common Mistakes on a Long Motorcycle Trip - How to avoid them?

09:33
Long Motorcycle Trip - What we need to know? Did you plan your long motorcycle trip? Are you sure that you took the right decisions? In this video I will talks about the top 5 common mistakes most of the riders make. I will also tell you few easy tips to avoid it. So guys, it doesn’t matter how good rider you are, how many km you have, if you never been on the long trip you will make some of these mistakes. 1. Mistake N: 1 – Wrong motorcycle. It is very important to have the right bike. What that’s mean? How to choose the one for you? I will try to explain: - Don’t lessen what the people will said. Don’t trust anyone about the type of the motorcycle you should have on the long trip. If you ask ten people, you will probably receive ten different opinions and what is the funny is that they all will be right. Is that possible? Of course it is. - Only you know, how fast you ride, how many km per day you will have and where exactly you will go. So, if we follow this logic, only you can choose the right bike. What you have to do is to learn something about the area you are going. Find all possible information. Terrains, roads, elevations, weather conditions and many more. I told you this many times, but I will tell you again – the preparation is the key of success. Make your homework and you will be happy after that. - To go on long trip in Siberia “road of bones” for example with GS 1200 is not the right decision. The last thing you going to need on such a trip is a heavy bike. - On the other hand to ride on the iron boot competition (1,000miles per day on the highway) with Suzuki DR 400 will be really enthusiastic adventure. - In both cases you will make a terrible mistake. 2. Mistake N: 2 - Wrong gear choice. I have seen many riders keep making the same mistakes. To go on the long trip, with leather suit is not going to be the right choice. It will work, but not every day, not in all conditions. 3. Mistake N: 3 - Too much weight. Most of you guys take way too much. To have already have bike 200-250 kg and to load more 50 on the top it’s not something I will ever do. The weight is always matter. Specially if you have plans to ride off road. 4. Mistake N: 4 - Planed too many or to little km per day. In the first scenario you have to ride too long and you can’t really enjoy the trip. In the second you will travel too slow and will need more time. In both case the result is not going to be what you expect. The best way to learn about your possibilities is to practice. Start with simple day or two trips, they will show how to do it in the future. Once you know your riding stile will be time to open the map and do it properly. Always plan a little less then you can actually ride. 5. Mistake N: 5 - To try to ride and work at the same time. The idea is to ride all day and later in the evening to try to work on the computer or the telephone and keep the business in good order. I have tried this couple of times. Every night when we stopped my friend was relaxing, drinking beers looking around, but I have to stay online, trying to solve all existing problems, to answer all e-mails and so on. The result was a big mess, which one was very difficult to fix later. Do not even try, it is not working! If you can’t leave the business alone, don’t go on the trip or find somebody to replace you. Only then you can really enjoy the journey. I don’t feel as if you owe me anything, but if you find my videos useful, then why not? The world will be much better place if we just help, instead of hate each other! Why Tesla's Model X Was The First SUV To Receive A Perfect Crash Test Rating

03:03
SUVs are generally safe, but have a high rollover probability. Tesla was able to overcome this obstacle with their Model X SUV. Here's how they did it. For more, check out our Snapchat https://insder.co/cars #Tesla #CrashTest #BusinessInsider The following is a transcript of the video: Narrator: This Tesla Model X refuses to roll over. Unlike most SUVs which tend to roll over with ease, the Model X continues to return to an upright position. Here's why the Model X was the first SUV to receive a perfect crash test rating. When it comes to vehicle safety, size matters. So it's not uncommon for SUVs to be generally safer than your standard sedan. However, they tend to have one big shortcoming. Rollovers. SUVs are notorious for having a high center of gravity causing them to roll over when put into tight maneuvering situations, or a side impact. Rollovers can result in the partial or full ejection of passengers from the vehicle, increasing the chances of injury or death. In 2016, rollovers happened in one percent of serious crashes in passenger vehicles but accounted for one-third of collision-related deaths.  Over the past three decades, automakers have been able to reduce the frequency of rollovers in vehicles with technology and more stable designs. However, once a serious impact occurs it's just basic physics. A higher center of gravity increases the likelihood of a car tipping or rolling over. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA is the only organization that tests rollover resistance. They also test frontal crashes and side impacts from a pole and barrier. After each test, they measure readings from a dummy to determine how much damage a real person is likely to sustain. They use this data to determine a safety rating in each category and an overall safety rating for the vehicle. Amongst its many luxury features, the Model X hosts active safety technology such as collision avoidance systems and automatic emergency braking. But what sets the Model X apart is its design. Like other Teslas, the Model X has a large, rigid battery pack located on the floor of the vehicle. This gives the Model X a much lower center of gravity than your average SUV. In the event of a collision that would normally cause an SUV to roll over, this would happen instead. But rollovers are just one aspect of the safety test. Since the Model X is an electric vehicle, there's no need for mechanical components in the hood of the car. This allows for a much larger crumple zone to absorb energy from a frontal crash. It also has specially-made side sills that absorb energy in addition to its rigid side pillars. These features help reduce the force exerted on passengers and increases their protection. But if you don't have $80,000 laying around for a Model X there’s still plenty of SUVs out there with excellent safety ratings. ------------------------------------------------------ Business Insider tells you all you need to know about business, finance, tech, retail, and more. Working online and traveling the world - digital nomads | DW Documentary

25:56
Working online whilst traveling the world sounds like a dream job for many people. But what exactly is a digital nomad? Pete and Supi live as digital nomads. They travel the world permanently, work on the road and are always online. Their lives epitomize the digital revolution and how it is changing how we work live. Many people dream of living and working on the road - a dream that has come true for Pete and Supi. Driven by a passion for travel, they set out to escape the dreary routine of everyday life. They want to achieve maximum self-fulfilment without big safety nets and full-cover insurance, in a nomadic world of adventure. Pete is a DJ, so parties and big cities are a defining part of his life, whereas Suparni aka Supi is the opposite; she’s looking for spirituality and awareness. The two show us the huge spectrum of opportunities that the world of the digital nomad has to offer. Despite their fundamental differences, they both earn their living by working remotely. The digital age has made this way of life possible: without the Internet, it would be almost unthinkable. But their lifestyle does have its limits, as is becoming especially evident to Suparni with her plans for parenthood. But it's hard to find someone you love who also loves the same sort of lifestyle, and the constant travel is a big obstacle. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Avoid Placing Floor Drains in High-Traffic Areas – Safety and Trip Hazards

http://www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/site_drainage/index.html Click on this link for more information about site drainage, walkways and construction. One of the biggest problems with building and I've noticed it for years is the amount of work done by professionals who haven't mastered their trade or by do-it-yourselfer's who create problems for others and floor drain locations that create trip hazards are often an excellent example of this. Watch the video for more information and don't forget to tell others about our videos and website.

Business Trip to NYC and Raising Money for Charity Water #VLOG

07:04
Traveling to NYC, Hanging at WeWork and Charity Water [VLOG] Please Donate Even $1 to Charity Water If I've Ever Created Value for You. http://bit.ly/waterisawesome I've been traveling back to back for the last few weeks. This week I was in New York city for Next Gen Summit, several business meetings, and FoodLovesTech. While traveling through New York City and just in general I've had a lot on my mind about where my life is heading especailly as I grow my business and start a few new projects. My philanthropy and involvement with causes has been on my mind a lot recently. I've been making donations to various causes like Charity Water a few times a year, but I've always wanted to be more involved. I felt it was something I was going to step up and do when I get older. But I decided this is one time where I'm not going to be patient and wait things out... I decided I was going to step up and start doing it right now. The Create Awesome Community can be a force for good beyond influencing the culture of the creative world, we can give a little bit right now and change the lives of hundreds of people around the world. Charity Water interest me because they are very transparent, use technology and social media very well and they found a way to give 100% of our donations toward the cause, by having private donors cover the other expenses. So if I've ever created any value for you I would ask you to donate what you can to Charity Water http://bit.ly/waterisawesome Also I know I missed a few videos this week, I had less time to edit than I realized and I'm working on a better system for having the videos out while I'm on the road or on a plane. Things will be more normal as we get closer to July where I'll be taking a break from travel.

What Happened To Donald Trump’s $365 Million Airline?

07:49
For a short time in the late 1980's and early 1990's, Donald Trump owned an airline. In 1989, Trump raised $365 million to purchase the Eastern Shuttle, which provided business travelers with quick flights between New York, Boston, and Washington. Within 18 months, the airline lost over $125 million, and by 1992, Trump decided it was time to walk away. Trump Shuttle created over 1,000 jobs, many of which were filled by Eastern Airlines employees who were out of work due to a labor strike. We talked to three former employees of Trump Shuttle. ------------------------------------------------------ #DonaldTrump #Airline #BusinessInsider Business Insider tells you all you need to know about business, finance, tech, retail, and more. 7 Air Travel Tips to Know Before Your Flight

03:28
Many people who travel by airplanes don’t know about all of their peculiarities. These 7 amazing and simple tips will make you feel better and more comfortable during your flight. TIMESTAMPS The seats by the window are colder 0:21 Avoid drinking coffee or tea 0:49 Tables and seat pockets are the dirtiest places on the plane 1:12 Morning is the best time for a flight 1:44 The service is better in the final rows 2:06 Don’t inflate your neck cushion to full volume 2:33 Always go with a special menu 2:49 SUMMARY - The temperature outside the cabin can fall to as low as −140°F to −149°С, which cools down the temperature of the plane’s fuselage. You can feel this external cold above all in the seats by the windows, especially during summer when you wear light clothing. - Keep in mind: the drinking water used to prepare hot beverages onboard can contain malignant bacteria such as E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Specialists who have tested the water on various airlines have reached this conclusion on more than one occasion. - Pockets on the seat back in front of you are sometimes full of trash accumulated during flights. Yep, they aren’t cleaned as thoroughly as you would expect. When it comes to the tray tables, it’s even worse! - Later flights are usually delayed because of the ‘ripple’ effects of delays throughout the day. Moreover, if you have a fear of flying, specialists claim that a degree of turbulence is reduced in the morning. - If you sit in the first rows, you will be the first to leave the plane at the end of the flight as well as get a choice of meal. On the other hand, if you pick a seat closer to the back of the cabin, you’ll more attentive service from the cabin crew! - When you take a blow-up pillow onto the plane, don’t forget about the laws of physics! If you fill it with air completely, it might burst due to the changes in pressure in the cabin! - Airlines offer a choice of different in-flight meals such as vegetarian, seafood, halal, kosher, and many others. Even if you have no particular preference, many travelers recommend going for one of the specialist meal choices. Do you have a lot of friends who travel often? Share this video with them – they’ll definitely find it useful! AJAY JAIN Planning a trip to the Seychelles? Here are 10 tips that may come in handy: #1 Getting There Located in the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles are served by their national carrier and only a few other airlines. It may take an extra hop or two, but you get there. #2 Visa on Arrival - and it’s FREE Finally a country has the sense to offer visa on arrival, and not charge any fee. I still can’t figure why countries charge high amounts for visas - the money saved is likely to be spent in the country anyway and would encourage more travellers. #3 Currency The local currency is the Seychelles Rupee, and pegged at about 13 Rupees to a US dollar. The exchange rate is more or less no matter where you change money. However, US Dollars and Euros widely accepted everywhere. #4 Getting Around Taxis can be a little expensive, but you can rent cars starting at about 40 Euros a day. You also have the options to rent motorcycles, bicycles, boats and even an ox cart. There are limited public buses on main islands like Mahe. #5 Accommodation There is an option for all budgets - especially those looking at mid to luxury segments. Pick up a self-catering apartment or villa starting at a hundred Euros usually. #6 Plan Activities There are a wide range of activities that you can book with local operators, even at the last minute. Prices are quite similar, and most offer a high quality of service. #7 Pack for Summers Temperatures range from 30-32 C (86-90 F) all year round, so pack accordingly. It can be quite humid - you may want to shower more than once a day. Do carry sun protection, hats, shades etc. at all times. #8 Buy local SIM for data and calls Pick one when you land to stay connected through your stay. #9 Don’t Worry About Safety Crime and thefts are almost unknown in Seychelles - you will rarely see any cops around. You will always feel safe there. #10 Enjoy the Food Seychelles are a delight for foodies - there is something for everyone. And usually with views of the seas and mountains while you eat.
