Bob Fosse - And All That Jazz

02:51

BOB FOSSE choreography - " The Rich Man's Frug "

05:52
http://www.freds.gr/ The Frug (pronounced "froog") was a dance craze from the 1960s that evolved from another dance of the era, the Chicken. The Chicken, which featured lateral body movements, was used primarily as a change of pace step while doing the Twist. As young dancers grew more tired they would do less work, moving only their hips while standing in place. They then started making up arm movements for the dance, which prompted the birth of the Swim, the Monkey, the Dog, the Watusi, the Mashed Potato, and the Jerk. The Frug is sometimes referred to as the Surf, Big Bea, and the Thunderbird. A perfect example of a Frug is found in the movie Sweet Charity, which contains a number called "The Rich Man's Frug", a wildly energetic dance number comprising three "movements" ("The Aloof", "The Heavyweight" and "The Big Finish") that showcases director Bob Fosse's distinctive choreography style, particularly his creative use of unusual poses, gestures, and arm movement. http://www.freds.gr/ * Δεν έχω στην ιδιοκτησία μου τα δικαιώματα του τραγουδιού ή του βίντεο. Bob Fosse - Sweet Charity

10:51
Bob Fosse is one of my favourite dancers and choreographers. His groundbreaking jazz steps are influenced by the cake- and the camel walk, historical performed by great vaudeville dancers like Joe Frisco and Jack Cole, counteracted by his own inventions, the chick walk, the fan kick, the hinge walk and the drag step. His choreographies followed the golden era of the hollywood musical genre and transformed it into new spheres. This clip shows two shortcuts, `Hey Big Spender´ and `The Rich Man´s Frug´ from his first movie as a director: Sweet Charity (1969), based on Federico Fellini´s Nights on Cabiria.

Chicago Original 1975 Broadway Musical Commercial

01:00
Chicago: The Musical Original 1975 Broadway Commercial. No stars, just dancers in this commercial. Chicago is a musical set in Prohibition-era Chicago. The music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the "celebrity criminal". The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she reported on. The original Broadway production opened June 3, 1975, at the 46th Street Theatre[1] and ran for 936 performances. Bob Fosse choreographed the original production, and his style is strongly identified with the show. Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville opened on June 3, 1975 at the 46th Street Theatre, and ran for a total of 936 performances, closing on August 27, 1977.[10] The opening night cast starred Chita Rivera as Velma Kelly, Gwen Verdon as Roxie Hart, Jerry Orbach as Billy Flynn and Barney Martin as Amos Hart. Velma Kelly had been a comparatively minor character in all versions of Chicago prior to the musical rendering. The role was fleshed out to balance Chita Rivera's role opposite Gwen Verdon's Roxie Hart.

Playwright John Kander was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 18, 1927. He earned a Master's Degree from Columbia University. In 1962, John Kander partnered with Fred Ebb, and they created many Broadway musicals over the next 40 years. Ebb wrote the lyrics and Kander the music. Bob Fosse - "Smooth Criminal"

04:19
Song: "Smooth Criminal" Artist: Michael Jackson Films: The Affairs of Dobie Gillis, All That Jazz, Bells Are Ringing, Cabaret, Chicago, Damn Yankees, Fosse: The Broadway Musical, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Kiss Me Kate, The Little Prince, My Sister Eileen,The Pajama Game, Sweet Charity I first started working on this video a short time after Michael Jackson passed away and I'm so glad it's finally come together. Stupid me for choosing this video to learn FinalCut on! Anyway, this video is my tribute to the incredible dancer/choreographer Bob Fosse. I've included in this tribute: films Fosse choreographed, ones he appeared in himself, and, also, the film versions of some of the Broadway shows he choreographed (which is why films like "Chicago" and "Bells Are Ringing" are on here). All of them show the hallmarks of Fosse's iconic style (as did Michael Jackson's original "Smooth Criminal" video, actually). So, tilt your hat to the side, relax and enjoy Michael Jackson "Fosse-style"! ;)

Bob Fosse choreographed the original production, and his style is strongly identified with the show. Chicago's 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway, not counting the revue Oh! Calcutta!, and is Broadway's sixth longest-running show.[2] As of December 2010, it has played for more than 5,800 performances. The musical was produced in London's West End and on several tours and international productions. The Academy Award-winning film version (2002) of the musical was directed by Rob Marshall and starred Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, John C. Reilly, and Queen Latifah Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville opened on June 3, 1975 at the 46th Street Theatre, and ran for a total of 936 performances, closing on August 27, 1977.[10] The opening night cast starred Chita Rivera as Velma Kelly, Gwen Verdon as Roxie Hart, Jerry Orbach as Billy Flynn and Barney Martin as Amos Hart. Velma Kelly had been a comparatively minor character in all versions of Chicago prior to the musical rendering. The role was fleshed out to balance Chita Rivera's role opposite Gwen Verdon's Roxie Hart. The musical received mixed reviews. The Brechtian style of the show, which frequently dropped the fourth wall, made audiences uncomfortable. According to James Leve, "'Chicago' is cynical and subversive, exploiting American cultural mythologies in order to attack American celebrity culture."[11] The show opening the same year as Michael Bennett's highly successful A Chorus Line, which beat out Chicago in both ticket sales and at the Tony Awards.[12] The show was on the verge of closing, when it ran into another setback: Gwen Verdon had to have surgery on nodes in her throat.[13] The producers contemplated closing the show, but Liza Minnelli[14] stepped in and offered to play the role of Roxie Hart in place of Verdon. Her run lasted a month, boosting the show's popularity, and Gwen Verdon recuperated and returned to the show. Later during the run, Ann Reinking, who would go on to star in the highly successful 1996 revival[15] and choreograph that production in the style of Bob Fosse, was also a cast replacement for Roxie Hart during the show's original run 1975 Tony Awards: * Best Musical (Nominee) * Best Leading Actor in a Musical—Jerry Orbach (Nominee) * Best Leading Actress in a Musical—Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon (Nominees) * Best Direction of a Musical—Bob Fosse (Nominee) * Best Choreography—Bob Fosse (Nominee) * Best Book of a Musical—Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb (Nominee) * Best Original Score—Fred Ebb, John Kander (Nominee) * Best Scenic Design—Tony Walton (Nominee) * Best Costume Design—Patricia Zipprodt (Nominee) * Best Lighting Design—Jules Fisher (Nominee

Liza Minnelli Performing Mein Herr with Chair

DON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE! RATE IT AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! "Mein Herr" Written by John Kander and Fred Ebb Sung by Liza Minnelli Bob Fosse Choreographed and Directed Liza Minnelli Performing Mein Herr in "Cabaret" before her arthritis, 3 hip replacements and a recent knee replacement. Dancers have a very poor shelf life. Gwen Verdon could not keep her head steady for decades. The world's best dancers always wind up crippled. Madonna paid homage to this number, Dancing with a Chair, for her "Confessions on a Dance Floor" tour which was her tribute to the stars of the 70s. Fosse stole it from Marlene Dietrich. Nothing is new. The smart ones only steal from the best.

Dancers Over 40's Men of Fosse winds down with the dancers talking about how polite Fosse was at auditions, and a spirited discussion ensues about when Fosse began to be more introspective in his movements -- was it How to Succeed? was it Carol Haney's influence, or Gwen's Jack Cole training that created the Fosse style we now know. Gene Gavin said, by the time of CHICAGO, Fosse's movements were so specific and tight that he almost forgot to move!
