Genetics of Color Blindness

05:58
Color blindness, also known as color vision deficiency, is the decreased ability to see color or differences in color. Color blindness is typically inherited. It is most commonly inherited from mutations on the X chromosome but the mapping of the human genome has shown there are many causative mutations—mutations capable of causing color blindness originate from at least 19 different chromosomes and 56 different genes. Protanopia, deuteranopia, protanomaly, and deuteranomaly are commonly inherited forms of red–green color blindness which affect a substantial portion of the human population. Those affected have difficulty with discriminating red and green hues due to the absence or mutation of the red or green retinal photoreceptors

How Color Blind People See the World

06:36
What is color blindness? How do color blind people see the world? And how many people in the world are affected by color blindness? What's color blindness? Color blindness, also known as color vision deficiency, is not a disease but the decreased ability to see color or differences in color. Approximately every 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women are affected by it. So, there is a high probability that someone who you know a neighbor or a co-student is color blind. For a person with normal vision, it is hard to imagine what it is like to be color-blind and how people like this see the world. Which color do they see? Do they see any at all? And so on. That is why we, at Bright Side, prepared a visual comparison of all colorblindness types and put them together for your better understanding. There are four different types of color blindness. Each of them provides deficiency in different color shades. TIMESTAMPS Deuteranopia, the first type of color blindness 1:13 Protanopia, the less-widespread form of color blindness 1:45 Tritanopia, the third type of color blindness 2:06 Total Color Blindness 2:26 Normal vision VS Color Blindness 2:46 Historical facts of colorblindness 5:39 #colorblind #humaneye SUMMARY The color blindness as a vision deficiency was discovered by English chemist John Dalton after he realized that he was color blind himself. In 1798, he published the first scientific paper related to this subject which was called “Extraordinary facts relating to the vision of colors.” Due to his unmeasurable input into the research of color blindness, the general condition has been called after him and known as Daltonism. Though, in English, this term is now used only for deuteranopia. Chromosome X&Y (23) - Colour Blindness

02:23
EXPLORE THE RI ADVENT CALENDAR: http://rigb.org.uk/advent How do we distinguish light from dark and one colour from another? The answer lies in the tiny light-sensitive cells of our retinas -- the rods and cones. We have three different types of cones which respond to blue, green and red light, and faults with any of these cone cells can lead to different kinds of colour blindness. The gene responsible for colour blindness is found on the X chromosome which, as Dr Simon Watt explains, is the reason that so many more men are colour blind than women. 🔴 Colorblind People See Color For The First Time | Best Emotional Reactions 3

26:06
What is color blindness? Approximately 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women have some degree of color blindness. There are different types of color blindness but the most common is commonly known as red-green color blindness. Color blindness (also called color vision deficiency by vision scientists), is a condition where a the retinal cone cells respond to light differently than normal. People with color blindness usually can still see colors, but have color confusions or certain pairs of colors which appear so similar they cannot tell them apart. There are extremely rare cases where people are unable to see any colour at all. What EnChroma glasses do? EnChroma glasses are an optical assistive device; they are not a cure for color blindness. The underlying cause of most color vision deficiencies is that the red and green-sensitive retinal cone cells have an overlapping response to light. Instead of responding separately to each wavelength of light, their response is highly similar. To compensate for the overlap, the EnChroma lens contains proprietary optical materials that selectively remove particular wavelengths of light exactly where the overlap is occurring. HOW COLOR BLIND PEOPLE SEE THE WORLD

05:36
Hi everyone! Have you ever had an argument with a friend about the color of a particular object? Just imagine that your favorite red jacket suddenly is, according to your crazy friend, a green one! Don’t worry, take a deep breath… probably he’s just simply color blind… or maybe you are color blind? It’s perfectly possible. It turns out that one out of every ten people on earth is color blind, and most of them do not even know it! How is that possible? It is actually quite simply: we cannot even imagine how people with eye disorders experience life. So today we will try to understand how a color blind person sees the world and to explain the causes of color blindness.

This Is What Color Blind People See With These Viral Glasses

03:43
These glasses bring more color to the color blind by helping them see more hues and differentiate colors. You have seen the viral reactions of people trying them. But how do they work? These glasses are made by EnChroma. They are intended to enhance the vibrancy and saturation of colors. They also help with depth and detail perception. The glasses work for four out of five people with red-green color blindness. Here's how people with color blindness see the world. Those that are non-color blind see about 1 million to 7 million different color hues. Those with color blindness see only about 10,000 to 100,000 different hues. A vastly diminished color spectrum. Here's how the glasses can help. Most people have three color cones in their eyes. Blue, green, and red. The ratio of light for each incoming color is then sent to your brain. This ratio tells your brain what color you should perceive. But with color blindness, the red and green cones overlap more noticeably. This skews the ratio of light and color signals, so your brain struggles to interpret anything with red and green in it. EnChroma glasses have optical filters, which remove certain wavelengths of light. This helps establish a more accurate ratio of light entering the eye. So you perceive that color more clearly. The glasses do not work for everyone and they don't completely correct the skewed ratio that the color blind see. They do help make the world more vibrant. One pair at a time. Color blindness can make some educational activities difficult. Buying fruit, picking clothing, and reading traffic lights can also be more challenging. Problems, however, are minor, and most people adapt. Individuals with total color blindness may also have decreased visual acuity. The most common cause of color blindness is due to a fault in the development of one or more of the three sets of color-sensing cones in the eye. Males are more likely to be color blind than females as the genes responsible for the most common forms of color blindness are on the X chromosome. Color Blindness can also result from physical or chemical damage to the eye, optic nerve, or parts of the brain. Diagnosis is typically with the Ishihara color test; however, some other testing methods also exist. There is no cure for color blindness. Diagnosis may allow a person's teacher to change their method of teaching to accommodate the decreased ability to recognize color. Special lenses may help people with red-green color blindness when under bright conditions. There are also mobile apps that can help people identify colors. Red-green color blindness is the most common form, followed by blue-yellow color blindness and total color blindness. Red-green color blindness affects up to 8% of males and 0.5% of females of Northern European descent. The ability to see color also decreases in old age. Being color blind may make people ineligible for certain jobs in certain countries. This may include pilot, train driver, and armed forces. The effect of color blindness on artistic ability; however, is controversial. The ability to draw appears to be unchanged, and some famous artists are believed to have been color blind. Color Blind Test || If you see a 12 you're colorblind

02:58
Colour (color) blindness (colour vision deficiency, or CVD) affects approximately 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women in the world. In Britain this means that there are approximately 2.7 million colour blind people (about 4.5% of the entire population), most of whom are male. There are different causes of colour blindness. For the vast majority of people with deficient colour vision the condition is genetic and has been inherited from their mother, although some people become colour blind as a result of other diseases such as diabetes and multiple sclerosis or they acquire the condition over time due to the aging process, medication etc. Most colour blind people are able to see things as clearly as other people but they are unable to fully ‘see’ red, green or blue light. There are different types of colour blindness and there are extremely rare cases where people are unable to see any colour at all. The most common form of colour blindness is known as red/green colour blindness and most colour blind people suffer from this. Although known as red/green colour blindness this does not mean sufferers mix up red and green, it means they mix up all colours which have some red or green as part of the whole colour. For example, a red/green colour blind person will confuse a blue and a purple because they can’t ‘see’ the red element of the colour purple. Similar problems can arise across the whole colour spectrum affecting all reds, greens, oranges, browns, purples, pinks and greys. Even black can be confused as dark green or dark blue. The effects of colour vision deficiency can be mild, moderate or severe so, for example, approximately 40% of colour blind pupils currently leaving secondary school are unaware that they are colour blind , whilst 60% of sufferers experience many problems in everyday life. Color Blindness Test: Are You Color Blind?

05:29
Color Blindness Test: Are You Color Blind? Color blindness is the decreased ability to see color or differentiate colors. People with a color vision deficiency often face problems in educational activities and other color-intensive works. The most common cause of color blindness is a fault in the development of one or more than three sets of cone-shaped cells within the retina called cone cells. About 8 percents of men and 0.5 percent of women have the common form of red-green color blindness. A complete absence of color vision, total color blindness, is rare. This video will lead you through 10 tests which are proven effective to determine color blindness over time. Answer the questions and count up the number of correct tests. The possible result will be shown at the end of this video. If you guys enjoyed this video and found this helpful, then please do like, comment and share this video with your friends and family. Color Blindness – Facts, Types, Causes, Genetics

04:54
Find out what are the top interesting facts, genetics, causes, and types of color blindness. Color blindness, also known as color vision deficiency, is the decreased capacity to see color or differences in color. Most people are able to adapt to color vision deficiency and it's rarely a sign of anything serious. Color Blindness facts - Color blindness affects approximately every 1 in 12 men (8 percent) and 1 in 200 women (0.5 percent). A person with color blindness has trouble seeing red, green, blue, or mixtures of these colors. Color blindness usually affects both eyes equally and remains stable throughout life. Color Blindness causes - To understand what causes color blindness, you need to know about the cones in your eyes. Total color blindness is very rare but the effects are severe. Color Blindness types -The most common types of hereditary color blindness is usually referred to as red-green color blindness. Deuteranopia is not only a very hard word to pronounce, however, the most common form of color blindness (red/green). Tritanopia is the insensitivity to short wavelengths (the blues). Another rare form of CVD called unilateral dichromacy affects individuals who have one normal eye and one colorblind eye. Color Blindness genetics - For the vast majority of people with a deficient colour vision the condition is genetic and has been inherited from their mother. This inherited condition affects males more frequently than females. Color Blindness treatment - There is no treatment, but most patients adjust and the condition doesn't limit their activities. Azman Eye Care Specialists offers the ColorCorrection System, a combination of unique tests and filters that can assist color vision deficiency. The ColorCorrection System uses individually designed filters in eyeglasses or soft contact lenses, a painless and simple process that is no more difficult for the patient than the usual examination and flitting of corrective lenses for a condition such as nearsightedness. This unique system is not offered anywhere else in the world. The benefits of the ColorCorrection system allow anyone who is colorblind to choose a career without worrying about vision testing. Employers need not turn down a well-qualified candidate, as ColorCorrection can resolve the problem of colorblindness. Color corrective glasses and contact lenses are usually permitted in fields that require employees to pass the Ishihara Color Plate Test. Colorblindness can have a major impact on a person's life, but thankfully, there is treatment available! Something as seemingly simple as a stoplight requires a colorblind person to pay much closer attention than the average driver, because the familiar red and green lights are indistinguishable to a person with colorblindness. Inherited colorblindness is more likely to affect men, as it is a sex-linked characteristic. Eye diseases, trauma to the brain, and medication side-effects may also cause colorblindness. Testing and More Information Dr. Azman's website can help you determine if you have colorblindness and whether you need the ColorCorrection System. A free colorblind test will allow you to determine if you are in fact colorblind and if so, what type of colorblindness you have. In addition to the more familiar red and green colorblindness, some people have trouble distinguishing between blue and yellow, a condition called Tritanopia. If you have colorblindness, Dr. Azman can help you as he has been 100% successful. If you have any questions, you can contact the Color Vision Specialists online through this secure form. http://youtu.be/pSaAo2P0Nq4 http://www.colormax.org

Are you Color Blind!?

02:26
Did you know that between 7 to 10% of men are "color blind"? Let's find out if you might be one of them! If under normal lighting conditions, you cannot differentiate between certain colors, then you are probably color blind. The most common type of color blindness is when your vision has reduced sensitivity to the green color. If you have this type of color blindness, distinguishing red and green colors can be difficult for you. If you are color-blind, you might not be able to work in certain industries, for example, to mix paint or to operate devices in response to a color-coded signal. Some countries such as Romania also refuse to grant driving licenses to individuals with color blindness. The Ishihara color test can help you find out if you are red-green color-blind. It consists of a series of pictures of color spots. A number or a shape is embedded as a series of spots within other spots that have a slightly different color. A person with a normal vision can see one number, whereas a color-blind person, cannot see it or sees a different number. We have included 3 examples from the test here to get you an idea if you are color blind. Look at each image for 3 seconds and see if you can find the number shown on your screen. You can also take the Ishihara color blind test online and find out if you are color blind: http://colorvisiontesting.com/ishihara.htm Disclaimer: We believe all the images and clips used in this video, qualify under fair use. How People With Different Types Of Color Blindness See The World

02:07
According to the scientific research on color blindness, about 0.5% of women and 8% of men suffer from this condition. We made a comparison of how people with different forms of color blindness see the world and it turns out that not all see black and white. There are several forms of color perception disorders, but we have selected the most common. Normal Vision A person with a normal color perception sees the world around him like that. Deuteranomaly Deuteranomaly is the most common form of color blindness. About 4.63% of men suffer from it, and often do not even sigh about it. The photo shows that all colors lose a little of their brightness, especially green and red. Protanopia Protanopia is a similar disorder but less frequent: only about 1% of men suffer from it. All shades of green and red become opaque. The blue and yellow tones are almost intact. Tritanopia Tritanopia is a very rare form of color blindness found in both men and women. Those who suffer from it see the world pink and green. Total Color Blindness That's right, color blindness exists but it's very rare: only 0.00003% of all people in the world suffer from it.

Let's test various images to how people with different kinds of color blindness see the world, There are several variations of color blindness, but we will focus on the three most common types. For people with normal vision, the brain compares the signals from all three cones enabling a person to see the color of an object. This is called 'trichromacy.'
