Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. difference between data, information and meta data - oracle introduction

03:52
Data: whatever we entered into the computer system is known as the data. Data can also be called as raw facts. Data doesn't give any meaning. Information: Information always gives meaning. if we perform some operations on the data it give some results that is information. Information can also be called as processed data. Metadata: One data describes about another data is called as metadata.

Performing Oracle 11g ASM Data Migration

17:34
Performing Oracle 11g Automatic Storage Management - ASM Data Migration Purpose of ASM Data Migration Alternatives to ASM storage include file systems, raw disks, and SAN configurations. ASM includes a number of benefits over these storage alternatives, including performance optimization, redundancy protection, and load balancing. You do not need to obtain a third-party Logical Volume Manager because ASM manages disks for you. Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) databases benefit from ASM because it provides ready-made shared storage. If a database currently uses a storage system other than ASM, then you can migrate all or part of the database into ASM, thereby simplifying database administration. You can also migrate a flash recovery area to ASM. Native operating system commands such as Linux cp or Windows COPY cannot write or read files in ASM storage. Because RMAN can read and write ASM files, you can use RMAN to copy datafiles into and out of ASM storage or between ASM disk groups. This technique is useful if you need to store backups on user-managed disks.

Big Data and NoSQL for Oracle DBAs: What You Need to Know

01:21:15
Big data and NoSQL allows us to scale to volumes that are not possible with traditional relational database systems at lower cost and in less time. The cost and size of storage has kept pace with our data requirements; however, transfer rates have not. Big data and NoSQL are architecture to solve this problem by bringing the compute to the data and not the other way around. During this presentation, you will learn what Big Data toolsets are and how they are different from relational database systems, including the Oracle In-Memory Database Option. PANELISTS: Michael Schrader is an Oracle Certified Professional and Certified Business Intelligence Professional from TDWI. He has been an Oracle DBA since V5, and produced the whitepaper “Understanding an OLAP Solution from Oracle for Oracle Corporation. Michael coauthored “Oracle Database Warehousing Unleashed,” and is the lead author for “Oracle Essbase & Oracle OLAP: The Guide to Oracle’s Multidimensional Solutions.” Arman Rawls is an Oracle Certified Professional and Neovera’s Senior Oracle Architect. He is the co-inventor for Healthcare Predictive Analysis Software. Arman specializes in RAC, disaster recovery architecture, data warehouse design, data integration and migration. He is a frequent speaker at Oracle Users Groups, Training Days, and instructor for PL/SQL and DBA courses. Learn more about our database services and expertise at www.neovera.com.

Oracle SQL Tutorial 23 - Intro to Data Types

05:03
Every column within a table has to be given what is known as a datatype. A data type is a fairly simple concept when you dissect the word. It is literally the type of data. Why do we use types, though? The biggest benefit is so that Oracle knows how to interpret and work with our data. It also makes the database better at rejecting incorrect data. If we had to concept of a data type, there would be a lot more work involved in forcing data to be of the right format. It would also be harder for us to get the database to treat the data in the correct way. In addition to this, a database can optimize storage and performance for a column if everything is of the same data type. Because of this, each column can only support one data type. There are numerous different data types in Oracle and it helps us if we categorize them. The first types of datatypes we should learn about are: String, Numeric, Temporal Now, there are few more categories we could make, but these are the main ones. We will worry about the other ones another day as I am only introducing the topic. A string data type is anything within quotes. Most databases use single quotes for string data. Inside of the quotes can be any number of characters. What is a character? Think of any letter, number, or symbol you can type. Some people call these letters, numbers, and symbols alphanumeric. Numeric data type includes only numbers. These data types are often used for data that you plan on using for mathematical calculations. Temporal data types are data types that are used for dates and times. Now, each data type is probably going to have some options you'll need to worry about, but one that comes up with every data type is storage. The reason we need to consider storage is because we may end up with millions of rows in a table and the difference between a few bytes for each row will make a huge difference when we look at the whole picture. When a data type gives you the option of size, you will want to a size that will be able to hold what you need, but nothing more. In the upcoming videos we are going to discuss the available data types in more detail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Lecture 5 Oracle Database Performance Tuning 2 - Guy Harrison

38:42
China Sun Yat-sen University and Dell co-established course IT System Management Introduction Lecture 5 Oracle Database Performance Tuning - Guy Harrison The Oracle database is highly tuneable with many options for optimizing performance. However, the sheer quantity of tuning options can be overwhelming, and you can waste precious time unless you know which tuning activities are most likely to provide a return on your time investment. In this lecture we'll review some of the fundamental Oracle performance tuning practices and see how to use these in a systematic way to improve Oracle performance. Topics will include workload and SQL optimization, identification and elimination of key contention points, configuring memory to avoid physical IO, and disk IO optimization. We will also see how to use commercial tools to assist in Oracle database tuning. Oracle Tutorial | Oracle SQL Data Dictionary

07:06
This Oracle tutorial demonstrates how to issue SQL statements to find metadata about the tables you own. We'll take a look at the USER_TABLES, USER_CONSTRAINTS, and USER_CONS_COLUMNS data dictionary views. We'll be using SQL*Plus as our interface rather than a graphical tool such as Toad or SQL Developer. How to Create an Oracle VirtualBox Virtual Machine and Recover Data from a VDI Disk 💻📦⚕️

08:02
👍 Watch how to create an Oracle VirtualBox virtual machine, and how to recover data from a virtual disk of such machine after a failure or when the virtual machine can’t start. Recovering Data of Oracle VM VirtualBox Virtual Machine (*.vdi, *.vmdk, *.vhd, *.hdd, *.qed, *.qcow) - https://hetmanrecovery.com/recovery_news/recovering-data-of-oracle-vm-virtualbox-virtual-machine.htm. VirtualBox official webpage: https://www.virtualbox.org/. Watch another video on our channel to see how to create a bootable USB drive to install Windows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUOLPBSgwI4. Watch another video by our channel to see how to make a clean installation of Windows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb7P2iATJwc. In this video, I want to show you one trick, just in case if for some reason your virtual machine is no longer working, and there are important files on its disks. I will show you how to recover them. Though Oracle VirtualBox is a virtual machine, real data can be saved there. As we have already said, all files stored in virtual machine disks are located in .vdi files of the virtual disk (in our case). Hetman Partition Recovery, the program for hard disk data recovery, has the function of mounting virtual disks and recovering data from such disks. You can download Hetman Partition Recovery here: https://hetmanrecovery.com/hard_drive_recovery/software.htm In order to get access to virtual machine files: 1. Run Hetman Partition Recovery and mount the virtual machine disk. If there are several of them, you can mount them all at once or one by one.  To mount a virtual disk with the help of Hetman Partition Recovery, click on Mount Disk in the quick access menu of the program. As a result, the window of choosing a virtual disk will open.  Go to the folder containing the virtual machine and choose the necessary virtual disk file.  Open 2. As you do that, the section “Mounted Disks” containing the list of mounted virtual disks will appear in the window, where all disks found by the application are shown. If you mount several disks, you will see the entire disk list there. 3. Scan the disk with the application by clicking on the disk in the disk manager 4. After the analysis, the application will show the directory tree of the scanned disk. 5. Find and recover the necessary files to a convenient location in your main operating system. By the way, you can use this method to move files from a virtual machine disk to the main operating system. The methods we have described for recovering data of an Oracle VM VirtualBox virtual machine are good for virtual machine regardless of their virtual disk format: *.vdi, *.vmdk, *.vhd, *.vhdx, *.hdd, *.qed, *.qcow and they will be absolutely similar for all of these virtual disk formats. In this video, we have used the *.vdi virtual disk format as an example. I also recommend watching our previous videos on VMWare Workstation and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines; you can find the links in the description of this video. How to create a VMWare virtual machine and recover data from a VMDK disk with VMFS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IOkVnQfN0E.
