Tips to draw better a fashion sketch in 4 minutes

05:00
The tutorial for today: Tips to draw better a fashion sketch in 4 minutes. We start with the construction axes. Don't over draw them. Just a simple sketch will do.This simple axes will help you and they will be a small guidance for your future costume.Remember that if the shoulder axis goes up, the hip line will balance the figue and it will be sketched in the oposite direction.Use soft lines and the use strong strokes that will create your costume. This is an exercise about composition, accents, balancing the lines in a fashion costume, it is an exercise that will help you be more creative, very fast, As a tip: use a music playlist and depending on the music, you can accelerate your lines, after the beat. There is no use in drawing the details, all you have to do is to have an expressive line, very modulated. For the second fashion sketch start, as previously, with the axes. Then add lines, dots and surfaces to your costume, to make in even more creative and interesting to be watched. A drawing is perfect when you have multiple line sizes - and these you can obtain when you press softer or harder, when you can add pression to your pencils and control the lines. Another tip is to keep your eyes half closed to see where you need to put the accents in a fashion sketch. If the sketch has almost the same "color" let's say, it is time to have areas where the line is stronger or softer, where you have empty spaces or black surfaces. These areas are those where the eye of the viewer stops and reflects, where the eye takes a break. When drawing more figures on a single paper sheet, try to think of all of them as a unit, as a whole. Each fashion sketch can be treated as an individual composition, but also the full paper should be in harmony, having the perfect composition. See those black areas that I underline sometimeS? Those are the equilibrium of each composition and they help you create a rythm to your drawings. At then end, take a look at all my drawings on this page and try to understand which technique I applied and why. The first model is feminine and it has a curved soft line. The scond one has the accents put on the upper side, having big volumes in the shape of a pair of earrings and jewelry for the neck. The third one is more elastic, nervous and it has a bigger volume the the preivous sketches. Here the contrast between the soft lines and those with accents is bigger. The costume is composed by 3 areas that are round: the two volumes on the shoulders and the lower part- the skirt. The last one has a more masculine approach. The lines are bold, strong and they tend to have angles. They are more rigid and they look geometric somehow. The last figure is the accent of this composition. The line is crazy and unexpected, compared to the previous strokes. Try to do this exercise at home, by copying my sketches and then by inventing new ones. Good luck!

What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?

06:17
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

How to do fashion sketches step by step

06:34
I'm Ioana Avram, fashion designer. Welcome to my Fashion teaching channel where you will find design videos starting from basic, easy level ( for beginners ) until advanced level. Follow my advices regarding the hand draw: anatomy studies, fashion poses, figures and croquis, learn about style and craft, fabrics and how to create garments. I love painting and sketching, I like fabrics and fashion magazines and especially pencil, ink and watercolor technique. I believe anyone can draw after practicing a while because all you need is work, work, work and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. :) I made this channel to prove that it's ok to have talent, but not necessary. Through my one of a kind technique you will see how easy it will be to draw from now on. You will learn more about fashion and everything related to it: composition, shading, textures, different techniques and especially learn how to draw fashion sketches all by yourself. I will post new videos each Thursday so don't forget to subscribe. I will do my best to answer all comments. Ask anything you want, and feel free to leave any suggestions for future videos! All are taken into consideration. For more info visit my website fashion-teaching.com. Thank you and take care! FAQ: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? ****************************************************** Yes, I studied design and fashion design ( for 4 years) at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, Europe. I had a scholarship in Katowice, Poland and another one in Coburg, Germany and a course attended with Gary Tu - a well-known fashion illustrator from Taipei, Taiwan. 3.Where do you get your inspiration? ****************************************************** Basically I am very interested in any image and text that could grab my attention: fashion albums, history of art, books I read, movies I see...In fact, i will share below all my sources of inspiration. Find all my inspirational folders here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397137153755499/photos/ 4. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? ****************************************************** Definitely I would recommend Gottfried Bammes' Anatomy, Barcsay's Anatomy and David Downton's illustrations that you will find here: http://www.daviddownton.com/ and here: http://instagram.com/daviddownton 5. How long have you been drawing? ****************************************************** 30 years ago some desperate parents interdicted their 3 years old child to use pencils to draw on their house's inner walls :). Due to this, and to the fact that all pencils, brushes and markers were forbidden, the child found another way to express: all chocolate received was hidden and used to "decorate" the walls when all other tools were not available.30 years later, here I am, willing to tell a story on every wall there is. Not with chocolate, like I used to :), but in watercolors, as you can find on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijuterra. Thank you, and hope to enjoy my illustrations and videos from your comfortable armchair, having a cup of warm milk in your hand and smiling. 6. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Thank you! 7. How to Draw a Fashion Model | Fashion Sketching

Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501930-How-to-Draw-a-Fashion-Model-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to draw a fashion model from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you draw a fashion model, and when drawing a fashion model, you want to take something into mind. You want her to be confident, strong looking, and something you want to show off the clothes beautifully. So here we go. We start with the head. You always divide the face halfway, so that you can then add in the eyes later. Give her a nice, long neck, basically elongating everything, because you want as much space to render your clothing on as possible. I'm giving her a really strong stance, she's a real tough you know what. Super long legs, high heel foot, you just want to just keep your lines nice and long, and you could always go in later and perfect it, it's no biggie if you get a little squiggle here and there. And that's pretty much the base for drawing a fashion model.

How to Draw Lace | Fashion Sketching

01:53
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501943-How-to-Draw-Lace-Fashion-Sketching Learn about drawing lace in a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you draw a lace. You start out with the lace that you're planning on rendering, which is a great idea. First figure out what kind of lace you want to use. This is especially handy if you have a client sitting beside you, and that's pretty much the story of my life, because I'm a custom designer, and they're sitting there right beside me, so I can't sit there and render perfect little flowers the whole time. So you have your swatch of fabric pinned to the page beside you, and then you just kind of indicate, just like little flowers throughout the dress, you know, some swirls between them, kind of just like your, let your hand just kind of just flow, don't be too rigid with it, because laces, lacey is all about like flowers and flow and whatnot. So you could even really just take the easiest route possible and just do a bunch of squiggles, which I'm going to do at the whole bottom of this dress, because I've already indicated at the top that that is going to be these hibiscus, or whatever the heck they are, squiggle squiggle, add some shading here and there, squiggle squiggle, one flower there, one flower here, one flower there, one in the middle to really drive it home that this is lace. And that is how you render lace on the spot.

How to Add Color, Texture & Shadows | Fashion Sketching

Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501940-How-to-Add-Color-Texture-and-Shadows-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to add color, texture, and shadows to a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you indicate color, texture and pattern. I prefer to use colored pencils, they're great because you can get all sorts of harder lines and what not, and then you can smudge it all over the place to give yourself more depth and shadow. So I’m going to go with these three colors, different shades of blue for this dress, and just start of really, really light. I’m going to connect my colors across giving a beautiful butterfly inspired design. And I’m going to go in with another color. And this particular dress is going to be made out of a very smooth mesh, so the texture itself that I’m trying to accomplish here is something that is just smooth, and just not too textured. So that’s a challenge in itself but it seems like it’s working out for me. After you’ve done all of your light shading, I think I’m going to leave some panels of white in there, which will look cool. Now you go back in and you do harder lines wherever you think there should be a shadow. And usually if you’re doing a dead on sketch, somebody that is facing dead on to you, all the shadows are going to be on the sides of their body, et cetera, et cetera. You can create a source of light if you want, but pretty much it’s like looking in the mirror, and take a look at yourself and where the shadows fall on your body. Don’t worry about these hard lines that you’re making because you go in later with your smudge stick, which is a wonderful thing, everyone should have a smudge stick, and blend all of this together. And you want to kind of like, anything that's falling to the back of your design, you want to give it a little bit more color, because that’s just saying it’s in the back and it’s shadowing it more. So I think I’m going to keep that white in there. So now I’m going to go in with my smudge stick handy dandy, and now you want to blend. You don’t want to mix your colors, so if you get too much of a blue in one corner of your smudge stick, you can chop it off, you can do all kinds of things. But I’m just going to rotate it and do it with a purple with that, which I got to do a little bit more purple shading here. I’m losing my shading. And now as the final step, just to indicate that this is mesh, I’m going to go over certain sections of the garment and just kind of create a meshy pattern. You don’t have to cover the entire thing, it’s just to get a notion of what is the fabric choice. I’m doing it on the white sections because it will show up the best. And that’s how you indicate color, shadow and texture.

What materials do you use for your drawings? I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencils and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I am taking Studio Arts in senior high school right now. It's not from that class that I learned what I know. I am learning new things from the class, but so far, not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I go to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. 4. How old are you? I am now 18 years old 5. How long have you been drawing? I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. That's probably my oldest memory of me drawing. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14. 6. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something I like. I am currently in an Artist's Block which has been going on since late October 2011, and I am finding ways to get out of it. I'll keep you posted on how I break through it :] 7. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced. http://www.monkeysee.com/play/5156-how-to-draw-clothes-on-a-fashion-figure this is a very basic tutorial but seriously, this tutorial helped me when I was just starting. How to Draw a Figure | Fashion Sketching

Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501928-How-to-Draw-a-Figure-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to draw a figure for a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. All right. So let's draw a figure. One thing I always start out with a pencil, because you can always erase it, and it's a good way to just get the basis going. So I always start with the head. Just think about proportion as you're doing it. The head, then the neck. We do a straight line under the neck. A good trick is to make an X here for the body. And it's great that we're doing this in pencil, as I said before, because all of this can go away later. From here, we work with a lot of elongated triangles. I'm going have this girl have her hand on her hip. So I'm doing these elongated triangles, even a little triangle for the hand, because you're going to smooth it out later. We'll give her a little arm, hanging down. It can even cross into the hand, as I just did. We'll give her some legs, and you basically segment the legs into triangles. This is how you establish the kneecaps, you do like little inverted triangle that way. And even a little inverted triangle for the foot, as well. All right. Now we go in and we smooth it all out. She kind of has a short neck, but I'm not that concerned, I can always erase that and fix it, so whatever. Basically drawing her outer silhouette now. I'll give her some bust, give her some hips. This is such a great trick because everybody knows how to draw a triangle, and then you're just smoothing over, smoothing over. She's turning out on the curvier side, but I can always fix that later as well. I'll give her her feet. Which I probably want her in high heels. All right. So, once you've gotten this process down, you've gotten it all smoothed out, you're happy with this, you're happy with that, and in fashion illustration you always elongate the form. And the reason why is you have more room to render the clothing. And that is why we make them so tall and lanky. It gives us more space to render details. Okay, now I go in with my pen. I like a nice roller pen, you can use felt tip, whatever you like. And I ink it all in. I hate drawing hands, but I will give a good attempt for you. I'll just give her like a weird mitten, but whatever, you can fix that later. That's why we have White-Out. It's never a bad idea just to put her hands behind her body, because it's all about the clothes, it's really not about her hands. And even if I'm doing these lines kind of feathery, you can always go over it again later with a thicker pen and really tighten it up. I'll give her some calves, a foot, and I'll have her have some high-heeled shoes on. She's pivoting her foot out. I'll lose this calf on this side and give her a calf on that side that tells me that her foot is being pivoted out. I'll give her a crotch. All right, so I've done the basic structure, so now I go in with my eraser and I get rid of all of the pencil. That arm is not pretty, but whatever, I can fix that later. So after a few little corrections, she'll be good to go, you can scan her into your computer. And that's how you draw a figure.

How to Draw a Dress | Fashion Sketching

Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501941-How-to-Draw-a-Dress-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to draw a dress for a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you draw a dress. First of all, you want to sketch out your croquis. This way you have something that you can erase later, and you can design without worrying about too many details. Just kind of think about what silhouette you want to do. I'm going to do a bateau neck, which is basically a boat neck, simple jersey dress. It has some flow just under the waist, just to give you a little bit of a kick in the hip, looks like a cute little summer dress. And just part of being a designer is just developing your esthetic, you just really have to just keep drawing nonstop, and then it will just come to you. But after I've drawn the dress, I then can over it in ink. And I did something that's very simple here, this is just a jersey dress, which jersey, of course, is just a stretchy, simple fabric. You do your outlines, draw in your drapiy-ness if you want it to happen, and then you go in with your eraser and get rid of all of your pencil lines. Et voila, that's how you draw a dress.

What materials do you mainly use for your drawings? In general, I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard A4 white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencil and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I took Studio Arts in senior high school. It's not from that class that I learned evreything I know. I did learn new things from the class, but not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I went to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. How I learned to draw my models is using the 9-Head technique. 4. How old are you? I am now 19 years old 5. I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, Tumblr fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something that I like. 7. MUSIC: Brittle Rille by Kevin MacLeod NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED

Digital Fashion Illustration - Part 1: Outline - tracing a model (plus size)

12:28
In this video I show you how I start off a fashion illustration digitally (using my laptop). I am using a Sony Vaio Flip which is a Tablet PC (touch screen) and am using a stylus which can draw directly on to my screen. You don't need these products to make digital fashion illustrations. You could also trace a model using the brush tool in photoshop or the pen tool in Illustrator. (I have done both in the past) Just to clarify, I CAN draw models/croquis myself, sometimes I just want a more perfect and realistic look which is when I will use a photograph as a base such as this. It also makes it a lot quicker and easier and gives great results even for people who don't think they can draw very well. A little bit about me: I am currently studying the Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design in Melbourne, Australia. I finished the Diploma in Fashion Design and Technology in 2014. I hope to own my own plus size alternative clothing label in the future. Music by Bensound http://www.bensound.com/
