As you are walking through the aisles, notice that I have now made you aware of something you probably have never thought about, despite the fact that you have grabbed something off of it at one point or another. Now that you know what they are, you will notice them every time you shop! As you look at each of the aisles, at the end of them is usually an end-cap display showcasing a product or several similar products by the same brand. These are also point-of-purchase displays. A point-of-purchase display is anything that will showcase a product that is not in its normal placement within the store, and is made of some sort of corrugated or metal material. A point-of-sale display (POS display) is a specialized form of sales promotion that is found near, on, or next to a checkout counter (the "point of sale"). They are intended to draw the customers' attention to products, which may be new products, or on special offer, and are also used to promote special events, e.g. seasonal or holiday-time sales. POS displays can include shelf edging, dummy packs, display packs, endcaps, display stands, mobiles, posters, and banners. POS can also refer to systems used to record transactions between the customer and the commerce. Usually, in smaller retail outlets, POS displays are supplied by the manufacturer of the products, and also sited, restocked and maintained by one of their regular salespersons. However, this is less common in large supermarkets as they can control the activities of their suppliers due to their large purchasing power, and prefer to use their own material designed to be consistent with their corporate theming and store layout. Common items that may appear in POS displays year-round are batteries, soft drinks, candy, chewing gum, magazines, comics, tobacco, and writable CDs and DVDs. These displays are also useful in outlets with limited floor space, as there tends to be much wasted space around counters. The displays are normally covered with branding for the product they are trying to sell, and are made out of cardboard or foamboard, and/or a covering over a plastic or Perspex/Plexiglass stand, all intended to be easily replaceable and disposable. This allows designers to make full use of color and printing to make the display visually appealing. Some displays are fixed or non-disposable; these may include lighting to make the display more visible and may also contain a cooler, e.g. for drinks or ice cream. Some are no more than a metal basket, with no design on the outside, simply showing a price; these types of display are easier to refill. In the field of POS displays, a "lightbox" is a display fixture (or a modular component of a larger POS display structure) that contains a translucent graphic film with lamps that transmit light through the graphic, thus "backlighting" the graphic message for increased visibility, brightness and contrast relative to its surroundings. By definition, the artwork or backlit graphic film (aka "duratrans") in a POS lightbox is replaceable without discarding the lightbox or any of its other components. Lightboxes have historically been lighted with fluorescent lamps due to their (a) cooler operating temperature than incandescent; (b) relatively efficient power consumption; and (c) inherent diffusive property. However, as in most commercial lighting applications, there has been a significant industry-wide shift in the late 20th and early 21st century toward LED lamps in POS lightboxes, for not just the universally-acknowledged benefit of economy but also of practicality, as LED lamps are more durable and impact-resistant in shipping, handling and public applications such as Point-of-Sale. Note: the definition of "lightbox" as it relates to POS displays is similar to but distinct from that of a lightbox in the Photography and Graphic Arts industries. The similarity is that they both contain lamps whose light is diffused to uniformly backlight a translucent image; the distinction is that a POS lightbox is a permanent or semi-permanent fixture used to display an advertising message in a retail space, while a photography lightbox is usually a portable or table-mounted appliance used for image quality analysis and/or tracing in a photography studio, graphic design studio, graphic/print production shop or similar environment.

Luminati Ltd - About Us www.luminati.co.uk Following on from our latest Meet The Team video, here is a little more information on the business itself. Back in 2002 myself and my fellow business Partner John Gall bought Luminati Waycon Ltd, which was a very small jobbing shop at the time. Since 2002 we've had 3 factory moves and we have also developed a complete point of sale product range, and 6 e-commerce platforms. We have also managed to fragment 3 businesses from the original business, so we can specialise in specialist areas. We started e-commerce 6-7 years ago now which initially started as a very small part of the business but has really complimented the growth of the business and now the e-commerce represents 1 third of the overall business turnover. W are designing for a range of industries and for some of the largest brands in the world, such as consumer electronics, high street retailers and industry specialists. Working with acrylic, Perspex, Lucite, wood and metals, we manufacture POS Point of Sale displays, lecterns, acrylic frames, exhibition displays, display cases and acrylic furniture. Samples we usually get through within a week, usually the lead time here from a live order is 2-4 weeks depending how busy we are, this could go from being in design for a week, CNC shop and finally production, to meet the end despatch date that's given. We are unique because we are a highly creative and agile business, we manufacture and design everything in house which gives us excellent control on design, manufacture and project fulfillment. Since 2002 the business has grown organically and as business grow they become complex and sometimes you have got to split out that complexity into specialist areas of manufacture. Spaces like this new are we have here are allowing us to actually focus on specific manufacturing cells and we have also managed to fragment out two businesses into a completely independent building. So in order to support our need as a business to increase our agility within what we actually do we are looking at bringing more processes in house, we are also looking at increasing our capacity in some key areas of the manufacturing part of the business which includes a very large investment in capital equipment including additional CNC routing capacity and possible other processes that we would be bringing in house.
