John Heft, SVP, Director of Real Estate Practice at New Day Underwriting tells you about the environmental insurance coverages available in the insurance market.
John Heft brings to New Day Underwriting Managers over 25 years of environmental underwriting experience, including a solid base of real estate-focused work experience for a major brokerage firm, an insurance carrier and an environmental consultant. Throughout his professional career, John has provided environmental risk management solutions for a variety of industry sectors including chemical, petrochemical, energy, manufacturing, commercial real estate, universities and healthcare. To provide the optimal risk management solutions, John honed his expertise in environmental liability assessment, quantification, loss control, and insurance program development and placement. His specialty is transactional business where he is well-trained to address clients' legacy liability issues as well as prospective portfolio insurance programs. John is the Vice President and Director of New Day's Real Estate Practice, which includes developing and managing the real estate book of business; identifying and developing new and existing retail brokerage relationships; and providing insurance and optimal risk management solutions to our retail broker partners and clients. Prior to joining New Day, John spent two years as Vice President/Client Advisor in Marsh's Environmental Practice where he worked with large domestic and international Fortune 100 to middle market clients. He also generated new and expanded revenue for the Practice. Prior to joining Marsh, he was Manager of ECS/XL Environmental's Chemical Facilities Unit where he was a Senior Facility Underwriter responsible for underwriting and managing all types of environmental insurance products. He also has environmental consulting experience with Consulting Services, Inc. (CSI) where he performed environmental risk assessment surveys for facilities throughout the U.S. John has authored many articles addressing environmental insurance and risk management topics for a variety of major insurance and real estate publications including National Underwriter, Risk Management Magazine, CFMA Building Profits, Facilities Manager Magazine, Environmental Protection, National Real Estate Investors Magazine, and Chain Store Age, to name a few. John received his B.S. in General Science and an M.S. in Water Resource and Environmental Engineering from Villanova University. He also completed his Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designation in 2009.
