Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque to celebrate Eid al-Adha on Tuesday. Grand Mufti of Russia Ravil Gainutdin addressed the attendees and called on Muslims to "be merciful, compassionate, to help all those who need our help and support." Eid al-Adha is the second of two globally celebrated holidays in Islam, the other Eid Al-Fitr, with the former honouring Ibrahim or Abraham's will to sacrifice his son to God before Jibra'il or Gabriel's intervention. Animals are often sacrificed on the holiday to remember Ibrahim's offering. The religious festival’s date varies from year to year due to the Islamic calendar, which is based around the Moon's cycle. Up to 250,000 Muslims, reportedly, celebrated Eid al-Adha in Moscow Region this year. Five mosques and three additional prayer grounds in Moscow as well as 39 prayer grounds in Moscow Region welcomed worshippers. The Moscow mosque, also known as Moscow Jum'ah Mosque and formerly as the Moscow Central Mosque, was demolished six years ago and rebuilt to accommodate 10,000 people. Muslims make up roughly 14 percent of Russia's population with a reported 1.5 million living in Moscow. Russian/Nat Russian Muslims gathered at Moscow's central mosque on Thursday morning for the Islamic holiday of Kurban-Bairam. This is a feast celebrated over four days throughout the Muslim world when meat is sacrificed and divided amongst the community. Speaking to reporters after part of the ceremony, Ravil Gainutdin, a religious leader, expressed his concern for Muslims in Chechnya. Russia has a large number of Muslims within its borders and they represent a significant group. Around a thousand gathered outside the central mosque in Moscow on Thursday to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Kurban-Bairam. Concern for the suffering taking place in Chechnya was evident. The head of the committee of Muftis in Russia, Ravil Gainutdin, was amongst the crowd in Moscow. He expressed his desire for peace. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "We asked (Putin) for a quick resolution of the military action in Chechnya. Muslim spiritual leaders will do all they can to facilitate a peace process and the return of peace and calm to the hearts of every Muslim in Chechnya." SUPER CAPTION: Ravil Gainutdin, head of Russian committee of Muftis Muslim leaders have been careful not to condemn Russia's actions in Chechnya. On Wednesday Russia's Muslim leaders met the acting Russian president Vladimir Putin. They discussed Chechnya but showed support for Putin who is almost certain to be the next president. The religious leaders told reporters that the war in Chechnya was not a fight against Islam but the re-establishment of law and order in the region. But not all Muslims in Russia necessarily agree with this diplomatic line. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "We understand that there are bandits who must be liquidated, but to liquidate so indiscriminately - everyone in Chechnya is suffering. Our spiritual brothers are suffering and it makes the heart sick, we are with them in spirit and we trust in Allah and hope that the good people of Chechnya and around the world will celebrate as Mohammed wanted." SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop Refugees from Chechnya in Ingushetia were also celebrating the holiday - as best they could. Kurban-Bairam commemorates the ransom of Ishmael with a ram. (28 Mar 2016) LEAD IN: An open day at Moscow's Cathedral Mosque has attracted a large crowd. Both Muslims and non-Muslims had the opportunity to explore the building and its artefacts. The mosque, which recently reopened after years of restoration and renovation, hopes to become a centre of social and religious life for Muslims in the Russian capital. STORY-LINE: The gleaming domes and spires are a recent addition to Moscow's skyline. Moscow's new Cathedral Mosque was opened to the public late last year. And today the mosque has opened its doors to non-Muslims. A long queue gathers at a display case. Inside there's an important artefact - the 'Hair of Mohammed'. This was a gift from Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov when the mosque opened in October, 2015. The mosque's leaders believe this building is important for the country's Muslims. "The mosque is a kind of spiritual shelter, where a person either turns into nothing or is revived. The Moscow Mosque is the main mosque in the whole of Russia. It is a central mosque and it attracts many people, and today we wish to have more non-Muslims here," says Eldar Alliutdinov, Imam of Moscow Cathedral Mosque. He says Russia's 20 million Muslims live alongside the predominantly Christian population in harmony. "Muslims in Russia are not aliens, they are not people who appeared here a hundred years ago. They are natives, and even many historians argue about this - about who was here on this land earlier," says Alliutdinov. "Muslims or non-Muslims, without divisions along the lines of nationality, have been living next to each other from time immemorial, they live as neighbours. It's true, there were different times - you can have a look at history. But this is not the situation we see in Europe or in America (where there are divisions)." Around two million Muslims now live in Moscow, after an influx from the North Caucasus republics of southern Russia, Azerbaijan and the former Soviet states in Central Asia. The city also has long had a sizeable Tatar minority. Part of the day's programme is a Quran reading competition, where children under 14 put their skills to the test. A crowd gathers to hear the children perform and amongst them a regular visitor to the mosque – Mohammed. "In general there is no such thing as persecution (of Muslims) as some people say. I live, I'm a Muslim. Everything is very peaceful, no one bothers me. What's important is to be a good man, a moral man, and there will be no problems whatsoever," he says. "There are extremist movements - but don't go there, don't become a radical. Live as a common man lives. Have common sense. Everything is very good. No one interferes, no one oppresses." Also on offer is a guided tour around the mosque, a chance for visitors to learn more about the building and its artefacts. And Moscow businessman Hadji Ilhomidin Kadirov has come here to pray with his family. The new mosque has transformed the way he worships. "Everybody knows that 10 to 15 years ago - it's impossible to imagine now - a billion Muslims in the world knew that when we prayed, marked Kurban Bayram (Eid al-Adha), or took part in Ramadan, we sat in the street, on the pavement and prayed under rain and in slush and in snow," he says. "But today the almighty has given us an opportunity such as a multi-storied, beautiful mosque where we can pray, both on regular days and on Fridays." Brightly coloured pictures of mosques are displayed on easels in one room of the building. The artworks are produced by children who are busy working away on their masterpieces. Away from the events of the open-day, prayers continue as usual. Built on the site of a smaller, more than 100-year-old mosque destroyed in 2011, it can accommodate 10,000 worshippers. When most people think of Russia, they may conjure up images of Romanov royalty, a parade of dictators like Stalin and Lenin or Brezhnev, or maybe cultural icons such as Mikhail Baryshnikov or Dostoyevsky. They don’t think of Muslims. But Islam is part of the fabric of old Russia—it made it there 66 years before Christianity did. As a result, Muslim groups are indigenous to the North Caucasus region, an area between the Black and Caspian Seas situated on northern slopes of the mountain range that generally separates Europe from Asia. These people groups include 45 to 50 subsets of people and even more languages, making them very difficult to reach. However many of them are moving into Moscow, Russia’s capital, which now has more Muslims than any other European city. Its newly reopened Grand Mosque can hold 10,000 worshippers. “God says, ‘If you can’t go to them, I’ll bring them to you,'” said Elizabeth*, a Christian worker among Muslims in Moscow. “There’s no better time to be in the former Soviet Union. God is moving Muslims right under our noses.” PRAY for God to continue to draw Muslims in Russia to faith in Christ. PRAY for Christians to develop friendships with Muslims so that they can have the opportunity to share the gospel with them. (20 Nov 2018) LEADIN: Mawlid is being celebrated in the city considered Russia's centre for Islam. Bolghar has a mosque situated next to a church and a museum housing the world's largest Quran. STORYLINE: Prayers at the sacred place for the Muslims of Russia, in the city of Bolghar, are heard continuously throughout the day. They are joining worshippers around the world in celebrating holiday of Mawlid - the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. It's generally celebrated on the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic calendar. The city of Bolghar has a special meaning for Russia's Muslims. It's considered to be the ancient religious capital of Tatarstan and a centre for Islam in Russia. Bolghar is situated 140 kilometres from Kazan on the banks of the Volga river. It's believed Islam in Russia originally started to spread from this ancient city, which is now the site of an historic museum. The museum site includes a mosque and a church standing next to each other; as well as mausoleum and a monastery cellar. Historian Renat Vagapov says many people ask why are the church and mosque are next to one another: "It makes them understand the history of Bolghar. They understand that here is the spiritual centre of Islam for the Ural and Volga regions. This is the place where Islam came through peaceful, missionary ways and in 922 it became the state religion," he says. "But other religions have not been prohibited here," he adds with reference to the proximity of the church to the mosque. Intensive restoration works have been underway in Bolghar since 2010, with new mosques and hotels being built to attract tourists. The museum also houses the world's largest printed Quran: It weighs 500 kilogrammes and is covered with more than a hundred semi-precious stones. "Its size is big - 2 by 1.5 metres - and it is really difficult to turn the pages. Even when we are trying to turn it, five men are helping us," explains Galina Zarifulina, representative of Bolghar state historical and architectural reserve. The holy book is covered with more than 100 semi-precious stones. The recent re-opening of Moscow's Grand Mosque after ten years of large-scale renovation could mark the beginning a new wave of Muslim culture in what is a largely Christian Orthodox country. That is at least the hope of Aleksandra Golovkova, a Muslim blogger who lives in Moscow and who has started a line of everyday Muslim clothing. She says the idea came about after she tried without success to find beautiful but modest clothes appropriate in her faith in the city. Jesus Christ's call to love God and neighbor was rooted in the divine revelation to the people of Israel embodied in the Torah (Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:18). We receive the open letter as a Muslim hand of conviviality and cooperation extended to Christians worldwide. In this response we extend our own Christian hand in return, so that together with all other human beings we may live in peace and justice as we seek to love God and our neighbors. WHAT? ASK FORGIVENES TO ALLAH we want to begin by acknowledging that in the past (e.g. in the Crusades) and in the present (e.g. in excesses of the "war on terror") many Christians have been guilty of sinning against our Muslim neighbors. Before we "shake your hand" in responding to your letter, we ask forgiveness of the All-Merciful One and of the Muslim community around the world. Religious Peace—World Peace IS RICK WARREN SEEKING TO USHER IN A FALSE PEACE THE BIBLE SAYS SUDDEN DESTRUCTION AND ISLAM WILL LEAD THE WAY FOR THE 12TH IMAM Muslims and Christians together make up well over half of the world's population. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities, there can be no meaningful peace in the world." Though tensions, conflicts, and even wars in which Christians and Muslims stand against each other are not primarily religious in character, they possess an undeniable religious dimension. YOU CAN NOT HAVE PEACE WITH ISLAM LOOK AT ISRAEL AND PALESTINIANS WITH ISRAEL SEEKING PEACE If we can achieve religious peace between these two religious communities, peace in the world will clearly be easier to attain. It is therefore no exaggeration to say, as you have in A Common Word Between Us and You, that "the future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians." Common Ground HERE IS A CHRISLAM STATEMENT EMBRACE EACHOTHERS BELIEFS AS OUR OWN - Surprisingly for many Christians, your letter considers the dual command of love to be the foundational principle not just of the Christian faith, but of Islam as well. That so much common ground exists -- common ground in some of the fundamentals of faith. Love of God - We applaud that A Common Word Between Us/Christians and You/ISLAM stresses so insistently the unique devotion to one God,

This is not permissible, all our muslims are outraged." 9. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Mufti Sheik Ravil Gainutdin: "In Russia, the Muslims are very educated. Muslims know when they should declare a jihad and when they should not. Today, there is no reason whatsoever to declare a jihad. No is against Russia, no one will start a war against Russia and, even more, the Russian Federation is partners with the United States of America." 10. Various interior of the mosque during prayers, with Mufti (NOT Gainutdin) leading the prayers. 11. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Umyar Makhmutov, vox pop "To announce a jihad is ridiculous, it will immediately start a conflict. It was an ill-thought-out move." 12. Exterior Central Mosque, Moscow STORYLINE: Russian Muslims reacted Friday to comments by Russia's Supreme Mufti Talgat Tadzhuddin that his organization had declared jihad against the United States and would raise money to "buy weapons for fighting America and food for the people of Iraq." During prayers at the Central Mosque in Moscow, Mufti Ravil Gainutdin, the head of the Council of Russian Muftis, a group that rivals Tadzhuddin's, strongly condemned the call for a jihad. He said that Tadzhuddin's comments had been a "mistake," that they were fueled by "political extremism" and that Tadzhuddin was only a minor part of Russia's muslim society and therefore his comments were Many Muslims who gathered at the Central Mosque for their traditional Friday prayers assailed the war but also criticized Tadzhuddin's statement, saying it would only bring harm and exacerbate tension. Also on Friday, the Russian Prosecutor General's office warned a top Islamic leader Friday that his call for a jihad, or holy war, against the United States violated federal law and said he would be prosecuted if he repeats the offense. The Prosecutor-General's office said that a regional prosecutor of Ufa warned him Friday that he was breaking a law against inciting ethnic or religious discord. Mufti Tadzhuddin, who heads the Central Islamic Department of Muslims of Holy Russia, announced the jihad at an anti-war demonstration, drawing cheers from the crowd, on Thursday in the southern city of Ufa, in the Russian Muslim republic of Bashkiria. He said Russian Muslims had declared their last jihad against Nazi Germany after it invaded the Soviet Union in 1941. An estimated 20 million of Russia's 145 million population are Muslims. Putin said "I've invited Turkish President Erdogan. He knows about that and, as far as I understand, he is very positive about this invitation. We’ll wait and see if he has the time and opportunity to arrive here," The mosque is under construction in Crimea and due to be completed by the end of the year - what's interesting about this invitation is, no one from Saudi Arabia was invited, may be due to Crown Prince bin Salmans, terrible reputation after the Khashoggi scandal, but what's even more interesting is, Turkey has always sided with the European Union of not recognising Crimea as a part of Russia. Political commentators are saying, Erdogans stance will change, in good time. Putin signed a treaty with representatives from Crimea on March 18, 2014, to make it part of Russia after a military intervention and a fair referendum, where Crimea chose to be a part of Russia. And it's been a glorious five years, Russian flags flew in the main city of Simferopol while posters celebrating Crimea's "return to its native land" hung in shop windows and on public transport. Western Balkan states are offering low-cost opportunities for both Russia and Turkey to undertake political and economic measures and the European Union isn't too happy, Putin and Erdogan have been working hard to strengthen their own ties with the Balkans and are continuing to invest in major national projects strategically calculated to have the greatest economic and political impact throughout the region.... Turkey and Russia are slowly making their way into Europe, That's Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, a Ziopig, a good friend of Netanyahu. Admitting this piece of filth into NATO is like admitting Israel. Turkey is a NATO ally. That's why Trump said, he has to talk to a lot of people. In order for Brazil to join the NATO alliance, majority of the countries within NATO must agree. However, I don't think Turkey will. That's why it's in the interest of Russia as well as Turkey, for Turkey to be within NATO and disrupt it as much as it can. They can't kick out Turkey without a valid excuse and so far they have none!

The adhān (Arabic: أَذَان [ʔaˈðaːn]), (or azān as pronounced in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, ezan in Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo, azon in Uzbekistan, and baang in some regions of Pakistan, Kurdistan, India, and Aceh, Indonesia) is the Islamic call to worship, recited by the muezzin at prescribed times of the day. The root of the word is ʾadhina أَذِنَ meaning "to listen, to hear, be informed about". Another derivative of this word is ʾudhun (أُذُن), meaning "ear". Adhan is called out by a muezzin from the mosque five times a day, traditionally from the minaret, summoning Muslims for mandatory (fard) worship (salat). A second call, known as iqama, (set up) then summons Muslims to line up for the beginning of the prayers. The main purpose behind the multiple loud pronouncements of adhan in every mosque is to make available to everyone an easily intelligible summary of Islamic belief. It is intended to bring to the mind of every believer and non-believer the substance of Islamic beliefs, or its spiritual ideology. In modern times, loudspeakers have been installed on minarets for this purpose.

Wide shot of the mosque STORYLINE Braving severe frost, hundreds of Muslims gathered outside Moscow's main mosque on Tuesday to pray and to celebrate Eid al Adha, called Kurban Bairam by the faithful in Russia. Hundreds more filled to capacity the majestic blue mosque in the fashionable part of Moscow to hear a sermon conducted by the Chief Mufti, Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin. He read a message of greetings to more than 20 (M) million Russian Muslims from President Vladimir Putin. Eid al Adha is one of the biggest Islamic festivals, celebrated in memory of patriarch Ibrahim's attempted sacrifice of his son at the commandment of God. The Muslims celebrate this exceptional manifestation of faith by offering a sacrifce of a sheep or cow. A part of the sacrificed meat is given to the poor and needy. Mufti Ravil Gainutdin said the festival was yet another occasion to pray for peace in Russia and all over the world. Voicing the prevailing view in Russia about the Iraqi crisis, the mufti said weapons inspectors should be allowed to finish their work in that country.
