Cocktail Glasses, More Than Just Martini | Lesson 07
The term cocktail glasses has been muddled over the years. When someone asks for cocktail glasses we assume they want the cocktail glasses used for a gin martini, martinez or a manhattan cocktail recipe Home Bartender Starter Kit: http://bit.ly/2DTOJcN Solid Cherry Muddler: http://bit.ly/2n8ijYk Learn more at http://learn.awesomedrinks.com A few of the pieces of glassware you should consider: The Coupe Glass Coupe glasses are usually short and squat. The coupe glass was also used for champagne prior to modern champagne flutes becoming the rage. Nick & Nora Glass The Nick & Nora Glass looks much like a miniature wine glass, holding 6 ounces of cocktail. You will find a wide variety of glasses called Nick & Nora but the original style (based on the Thin Man series that started Nick and Nora Charles) should look much like a dainty wine glass. Martini Glass The martini glass also designated a true cocktail glass is the upside down triangle-shaped cone glass design. The martini glass is probably one of the most inefficient uses of glassware ever invented. Highball Glass When we speak of a “highball,” this is typically a 12 ounce glass or larger that’s relatively tall. A highball glass can also be used as a water glass, ice tea, and serve as any standard drinking tumbler. Collins Glass The Collins glass, also called a chimney glass or, in some circles, a zombie, is tall and thin. It can be very hard to tell the difference between a highball glass and a collins glass. In general, you can note any tall glass as a collins or highball and nobody is going to look at you differently. Rocks / Old Fashioned Glass Perhaps the glass you see the most in classic movies containing hard spirits is that of the Old Fashioned glass. The old fashioned glass is simply a wide mouthed short glass. ------ Support CMC: http://patreon.com/cmc Checkout our recipe E-Books: http://homecocktailmenu.com ABOUT Common Man Cocktails (CMC) Common Man Cocktails, inspired by Derrick Schommer's intimidation when opening a cocktail book, is designed to show viewers how to create some of the most common cocktails to advanced crazy cocktails and to look back at the classics of yesterday. Old Traditioned Cocktail Recipe: Raise a Glass to History

More Unusual Drinking Glasses
The 'Greedy Cup' is typically made of clay or china, and does not reveal the siphon mechanism inside; however this example is made from glass, and shows how the internal siphon will completely empty the glass, if you fill it above a certain level. The 'show off' stein is a version of the German glass used for drinking beer. They are typically very large, and contain a lot of beer. This trick version appears to be large, but in fact only holds a small amount of beer. This is achieved by having a large glass hollow bulb within the stein, which takes up most of the volume. Tim then demonstrates an old fashioned champagne glass, with a long hollow stem, which causes a stream of bubbles to rise up in the middle of your drink. Finally one of the oldest glasses in Tim's collection - the dribble cup! This has little slots cut into it, hidden within the design. When you rasie the glass to your lips, the liquid runs out of the little slots, and dribbles everywhere.

Whiskey Glasses: 5 Fast Facts
See The 10 Best Whiskey Glasses on Ezvid Wiki ►► https://wiki.ezvid.com/best-whiskey-glasses Fact #1. Modern humanity is exceptionally good at finding ways to have fun. There doesn't seem to be an invention in recent history that hasn't been adopted for the purposes of tomfoolery. Whiskey is notorious among these inventions, as its predecessor was never intended as a party favor. Fact #2. Early distillations of alcohol grew out of the wine making process in Europe around the 13th century. The product of this distillation was known as aqua vitae. It was primarily used for medicinal purposes. Of course, humans being humans, it wasn't long before people began drinking the stuff for recreation. Fact #3. In Ireland, where whiskey was born, the first historical mention of the glorious drink is a sad one. It seems that the death of a chieftain in the early 15th century was credited to taking a surfeit of the liquid at some point during the Christmas holiday. From there, the popularity of the drink never waned. Fact #4. The act of choosing a whiskey glass is an intensely personal one. Your style will have a lot to do with your selection. There are ornate crystal glasses, as well as simple rocks glasses and others with innovative shapes and artistic flourishes. There's nothing wrong with picking a set simply based on its aesthetics. If you're a discerning whiskey drinker, however, it might be worth considering the intentions behind the design. Fact #5. Good whiskey is a complete sensory experience. Obviously, taste is paramount, with the bouquet of a given pour pulling up a close second. The way it feels on the palette, its gentle thickness, is as unmistakable as its welcome bite. Even the sight of the spirit, its deep amber color gently filtering through the warm light of your study or your favorite whiskey bar, is enough to make an aficionado weak in the knees.

So what we're gonna do is we're gonna take our glass and we're gonna basically throw it behind your back and you're going to release it upon your opposite butt cheek kind of is when you let go. And then you're gonna actually push with your finger to keep it flat so that there's no rotation. If you don't push with your finger it rotates, but if you hold it, it doesn't rotate. So it'll keep it nice and flat. Now the idea behind a flat is you wanna be able to put liquid in there and not spill it or ice and not spill the ice to do a flat. Now the other thing is, is that it takes a little time to get comfortable using a glass. So there's nothing wrong with practicing with a shaker tin. It's a little different weight wise, but most rocks glasses are gonna come in different weights anyway so you're gonna have to get used to the weight as you practice with a particular glass that you are using. Some of them have weight on the bottom, some of them don't. Some of them are a little different shapes and sizes. So we just take some practice and some time, but the concept doesn't change no matter whether using a glass or a tin or any kind of weight. So again we're gonna take it and you're gonna throw it behind your back and you're gonna keep it flat. Now the other part of this is to whether or not to go around your arm or inside your arm and that's just a matter of personal preference in the way you do your flair bartending. So you can either take it and come inside your arm and do a flat like that or you can go on the outside of your arm and then take a flat like that. It's up to you which ever you prefer. So looking at it from behind we're gonna take our glass, we're gonna bring it around, we're gonna release it at this point, push with our finger so that it doesn't rotate and let it come up flat. So that's how you do, we're just gonna give it a couple good tosses and practice and it's just a matter of catching it, flat. And that's how we do a flat behind the back with a rocks glass.

Southland - an Original Cocktail Inspired by Los Angeles
The combination of Rye Whiskey, Mezcal, Benedictine and Chicory & Vanilla Bitters in a cocktail captures of the spirit and the essence of the sunny, sandy, smoggy, glitzy, palm-lined, suburban-sprawl, paved chaparral, melting pot of the Los Angeles Metro Area in Southern California—known to newscasters and locals as The Southland. Much like the city's residents, most ingredients are imported, with the exception of the bitters, which comes straight outta Mar Vista (or their lesser, but still amazing substitute Green Bar Vanilla Bitters, which comes from DTLA). The official ingredients of this drink are Wild Turkey 101 Rye Whiskey, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, DOM Benedictine and Drunken Crane's Chicory & Vanilla Bitters. The Benedictine, a liqueur exclusively made by monks, represents the missionaries that settled California. The Mezcal is a reminder of the Mexican territory of Alta California. The Kentucky Rye represents the manifest destiny and migration to the west. And the California Bitters are a product of passion turned into a business, something that many Angelinos—adopted and native, alike—strive to do. The combination of all four is as amazing as it is delicious. So mix up a Southland, and raise a glass to endless summers and boulevards of dreams. Here's to hoping the San Andreas stays dormant, the water stay potable and that our California dreamin' comes true. Cheers! Recipe: 1 oz Rye Whiskey (Wild Turkey 101 Rye) 1 oz Mezcal (Del Maguey Vida Mezcal) 0.5 oz Benedictine 2 dashes Chicory & Vanilla Bitters (semi-optional) Stir with ice. Strain into rocks glass over large ice.
