CSS Tutorial For Beginners 30 - Font Weight

08:15
Howdy ninjas, in this CSS beginners tutorial we'll take an in-depth look into the font weight property. Font weight in CSS simply means how bold or how light the font displays in a browser. Be aware that not all fonts come with light and bold variations, so the different font weights available in CSS may not work in all cases. One font which has these extra two weights in Windows 8.1 is called Yu Gothic, which I'll be using in this video. Anyway, peace out, have fun and keep on coding :). TEXT AND FONTS (Ọ̀RỌ̀ ÀTI FỌNTI CSS)

12:58
Check out My New Video Done In Yoruba Language (Ẹṣe Àyẹ̀wò Fidio Titun Mi Ní Èdè Yorùbá) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ho-WbVCrUI So, in this video tutorial, I will quickly show us how to work with Text and Fonts, as we continue with the CSS video tutorial series in Yoruba. I equally consider text and font to be one of the very first thing that every beginner need when they are getting started with the basics of CSS. I started by giving the Wolewa (Login) page a new image background so I can have a clean and clearer background to work with. I also changed the font colour of my main paragraph after introducing the lorem ipsum tag. Some of the text styles I looked at in this video tutorial are text-transform: uppercase; text-transform: lowercase; line-height: 25px. I also looked at font styles like the font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; font-size: 150%; font-family: 'Overpass', sans-serif Finally, I created a style sheet linked directly from google fonts which I added to my html file “wolewa.html” and off course a text and font styles also from google fonts was also introduced to the style.css file. The video tutorial was done in the Yoruba Language. As you all know that all Tutorials uploaded on my YouTube channel,” TUTORIAL NÍ ÈDÈ YORÙBÁ” are in the Yoruba language, one of the major languages in Nigeria. By the time you would be viewing this video, hopefully; we would have an English Translation for non-native Yoruba Language speakers who also want to follow our lessons as much as possible. fluid container reflow

00:27
This container was created with a DIV element and inline CSS. There are no images in the background or around the edges. Note: I had to use (less than angle bracket) to represent the backward pointing less than angle bracket used in the code, and (greater than angle bracket) to represent the forward pointing greater than angle bracket on the keyboard. Each of these is one character. Youtube won't allow for this character in the description below. The code that you would enter into the HTML Code View is: (less than angle bracket)div style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)p(greater than angle bracket)Here's a single container with rounded corners in which you can write whatever you would like. This box will respond to your screen size so that the text reflows and remains visible without scrolling, until Blackboard's content area hits its minimum width of 1150 pixels. It doesn't use an image in its background, so it is light weight in terms of downloading content. Its only limitation is set within Blackboard Learn's minimum width size for the parent element (the content area).(less than angle bracket)(forward slash)p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/div(greater than angle bracket) Note the words contained within the DIV element that display in white letters. You can simply select this text and delete it, and enter whatever message you would like to appear here. The essentials to keep are: (less than angle bracket)div style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/div(greater than angle bracket) . Write whatever you would like in between the (less than angle bracket)div(greater than angle bracket) tags. The style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" is not HTML, but "inline" CSS. CSS is another web language, that styles the content laid out by HTML. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet. Most web designers use separate (external) style sheets of CSS and link to them within their web page. We have to use what is called "inline" CSS within a content management system in order to impose the styling that we want and override the basic styling set within the learning management system's CSS files.

How to Change the Font Size in WordPress (3 Different Options)

03:39
Are you wanting to change the font size on your WordPress posts and pages? Not all themes have a simple built-in method for changing the size of text but we have taught many people the way to change this. In this video, we will show you how to change the font size in WordPress. The simplest step would be to use the header tags which are styled by the theme you are using. By highlighting specific text, clicking the dropdown, and selecting the style you want your theme will customize it to be that specified font size. Every theme is unique so depending on the theme would determine how the text will look. A second method would be to install and activate the TinyMCE advanced plugin found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/ Once you activate the plugin go under Settings, TinyMCE Advanced to customize the editor's settings. You will see the TinyMCE Editor and be able to add or remove extra buttons but for this, we want the font family and font size added to the editor. This will allow you to choose how large the text should be as well as how it should be styled. The third method requires a little knowledge of CSS as we will be walking through how to manually edit the code for your site for your font size. You will go under Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS to get to the built-in editor. Target what you want to add a change to, for paragraphs, it's normally p. If you do not know what to target you can find out using inspect element, we have an article on how to use inspect element below: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/basics-of-inspect-element-with-your-wordpress-site/ Text version of this tutorial http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-change-the-font-size-in-wordpress If you liked this video, then please Like and consider subscribing to our channel for more WordPress videos. Paragraphs and Blockquotes in Bootstrap

13:01
Bootstrap's Default Settings: Bootstrap's global default font-size is 14px, with a line-height of 1.428. This is applied to the body element and all paragraph tag. Make a paragraph stand out by adding .lead class. Inline text elements: 1)Marked text For highlighting a run of text due to its relevance in another context, use the mark tag. 2)Deleted text For indicating blocks of text that have been deleted use the del tag. 3)Strikethrough text For indicating blocks of text that are no longer relevant use the s tag. 4)Underlined text To underline text use the u tag. 5)Bold For emphasizing a snippet of text with a heavier font-weight using strong tag. 6)Italics For emphasizing a snippet of text with italics use em tag. 7)Use sub tag for subscript and sup tag for superscript. Alignment classes: Easily realign text to components with text alignment classes. .text-left : Indicates left-aligned text .text-center : Indicates center-aligned text .text-right : Indicates right-aligned text .text-justify : Indicates justified text .text-nowrap : Indicates no wrap text Transformation classes: Transform text in components with text capitalization classes. .text-lowercase : Indicates lowercased text: lowercased text .text-uppercase : Indicates uppercased text: UPPERCASED TEXT .text-capitalize : Indicates capitalized text: Capitalized Text Abbreviations: Abbreviations with a title attribute displays a dotted underline. When the mouse is over the abbreviation, the pointer becomes a help cursor and the title attribute value is displayed as a tooltip. Blockquotes: For quoting blocks of content from another source within your document. Add a footer tag for identifying the source. Wrap the name of the source work in cite. Add .blockquote-reverse for a blockquote with right-aligned content.

Table of Contents: 00:22 - Turning off Float - Using Clear Elements after the floating element will flow around it. To avoid this, use the clear property. The clear property specifies which sides of an element other floating elements are not allowed. Add a text line into the image gallery, using the clear property: Example .text_line { clear:both; } 00:23 - Center Aligning Using the margin Property Block elements can be center-aligned by setting the left and right margins to "auto". Setting the left and right margins to auto specifies that they should split the available margin equally. The result is a centered element: Example .center { margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; width:70%; background-color:#b0e0e6; } 01:08 - Left and Right Aligning Using the position Property One method of aligning elements is to use absolute positioning: Example .right { position:absolute; right:0px; width:300px; background-color:#b0e0e6; } Note: Absolute positioned elements are removed from the normal flow, and can overlap elements. 01:22 - Left and Right Aligning Using the float Property One method of aligning elements is to use the float property: Example .right { float:right; width:300px; background-color:#b0e0e6; } 02:05 - A pseudo-class is used to define a special state of an element. Syntax selector:pseudo-class { css declaration; } Or selector.class:pseudo-class { css declaration; } Anchor Pseudo-classes Links can be displayed in different ways in a CSS-supporting browser: Example a:link {color:#FF0000;} /* unvisited link */ a:visited {color:#00FF00;} /* visited link */ a:hover {color:#FF00FF;} /* mouse over link */ a:active {color:#0000FF;} /* selected link */ 02:43 - Pseudo-classes and CSS Classes Pseudo-classes can be combined with CSS classes: a.red:visited {color:#FF0000;} <a class="red" href="css_syntax.asp">CSS Syntax</a> If the link in the example above has been visited, it will be displayed in red. 02:58 - 04:32 - Translate has officially inspired me to learn French Abby Author, NYC 07:17 - Translate has officially inspired me to learn French Abby Author, NYC 18:53 - A CSS pseudo-element is used to style specified parts of an element. Syntax selector::pseudo-element { css declaration; } Or selector.class::pseudo-class { css declaration; } Example usage: Style the first letter, or line, of an element. Insert content before, or after, the content of an element. 19:41 - The :first-line Pseudo-element The "first-line" pseudo-element is used to add a special style to the first line of a text. The "first-line" pseudo-element can only be applied to block-level elements. Format the first line of the text in p elements: Example p:first-line { color:#ff0000; font-variant:small-caps; } 19:55 - The :first-letter Pseudo-element The "first-letter" pseudo-element is used to add a special style to the first letter of a text. The "first-letter" pseudo-element can only be applied to block-level elements. Format the first letter of the text in p elements: Example p:first-letter { color:#ff0000; font-size:xx-large; } 19:58 - Pseudo-elements and CSS Classes Pseudo-elements can be combined with CSS classes: p.article:first-letter {color:#ff0000;} <p class="article">A paragraph in an article</p> The example above will display the first letter of all paragraphs with class="article", in red. 20:18 - CSS - The :before Pseudo-element The ":before" pseudo-element can be used to insert some content before the content of an element. The following example inserts an image before each <h1> element: Example: h1:before { content:url(smiley.gif); } CSS - The :after Pseudo-element The ":after" pseudo-element can be used to insert some content after the content of an element. The following example inserts an image after each <h1> element: Example: h1:after { content:url(smiley.gif); } 27:18 - By using the @media rule, a website can have a different layout for screen, print, mobile phone, tablet, etc. Media Types Some CSS properties are only designed for a certain media. For example the "voice-family" property is designed for aural user agents. Some other properties can be used for different media types. For example, the "font-size" property can be used for both screen and print media, but perhaps with different values. A document usually needs a larger font-size on a screen than on paper, and sans-serif fonts are easier to read on the screen, while serif fonts are easier to read on paper. 28:55 - <html> <head> <style> @media screen { p.test {font-family:verdana,sans-serif;font-size:14px;} } @media print { p.test {font-size:20px;color:red;} } @media screen,print { p.test {font-weight:bold;} } </style> </head> <body> .... </body> </html>

Part 33 Html helpers in mvc

11:05
In this video, we will discuss 1. The purpose of html helpers 2. Some of the standard html helpers What is an HTML helper? An HTML helper is a method that is used to render html content in a view. HTML helpers are implemented as extension methods. For example, to produce the HTML for a textbox with id="firstname" and name="firstname", we can type all the html in the view as shown below [input type="text" name="firtsname" id="firstname" /] OR We can use the "TextBox" html helper. @Html.TextBox("firstname") There are several overloaded versions. To set a value, along with the name, use the following overloaded version. @Html.TextBox("firstname", "John") The above html helper, generates the following HTML [input id="firstname" name="firstname" type="text" value="John" /] To set HTML attributes, use the following overloaded version. Notice that, we are passing HTML attributes (style & title) as an anonymous type. @Html.TextBox("firstname", "John", new { style = "background-color:Red; color:White; font-weight:bold", title="Please enter your first name" }) Some of the html attributes, are reserved keywords. Examples include class, readonly etc. To use these attributes, use "@" symbol as shown below. @Html.TextBox("firstname", "John", new { @class = "redtextbox", @readonly="true" }) To generate a label for "First Name" @Html.Label("fisrtname", "First Name") To generate a textbox to enter password, so that the input is masked @Html.Password("Password") To generate a multi-line textbox with 5 rows and 20 columns @Html.TextArea("Comments", "", 5, 20, null) To generate a hidden textbox @Html.Hidden("id") Hidden textbox is used to store id values. Id values are not displayed on the page to the end user, but we need them to update data when the form is posted to the server. Is it possible to create our own custom html helpers? Yes, we will discuss this in a later video session. Is it mandatory to use HTML helpers? No, you can type the required HTML, but using HTML helpers will greatly reduce the amount of HTML that we have to write in a view. Views should be as simple as possible. All the complicated logic to generate a control can be encapsulated into the helper, to keep views simple. 1.Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

16:13
CSS, or cascading style sheets, are used to describe the visual style and presentation of a document, most commonly web sites. One of the purposes of CSS is to separate the presentation of a document from the structure and content (although it is possible to embed CSS within the structure as well), and is a W3C recommendation. Separation of style from structure and content increases maintainability for the author(s) of a document as well as accessibility for the audience. CSS is commonly applied to HTML, XHTML and XML documents, though it is possible, albeit rare, to apply it to other types of documents as well. CSS is one way of describing the "style" -- the colors, fonts, layout, and other "presentation" aspects of a document. A single CSS file can describe a common "style" to be applied to many HTML, XHTML, and XML documents (which describe the content and structure of the elements of each document). Typically a particular element in a XHTML file has a "cascade" of CSS style rules that can be applied to it. The highest priority style rule is applied to each element. Cascading Style Sheets Syntax ======================= body { background-color : #000000; font-family : Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size : 100%; color : #ffffff; margin : 0; padding : 0; text-align : center; } h1 { font-family : Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size : 16px; color : #ffffff; font-style : normal; font-weight : normal; letter-spacing : 0.1em; } h2 { font-family : Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size : 12px; font-style : italic; font-weight : bold; color : #ffffff; text-decoration : underline; } p { font-family : Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size : 12px; font-style : normal; color : #ffffff; }
