In this video tutorial, I (Tessa Smits a Dutch Dot Art artist http://www.tessasmits.com ) explaine how I make those perfect glossy dots. How do you mix the paint, what kind of medium do you use and how do I prepare my brushes to make those perfect shiny dots. (I'm sorry in the video I one of two times call them pencils, but that should be brushes ;-) More information about my artwork or workshops please visit my website: http://tessasmits.com

TechZone ► https://goo.gl/Gj3wZs We won't ask you what is an artist, because, obviously, everybody knows that. However, it turns out, artists are not necessarily people who paint on canvases with paints and brushes. It is impossible to foresee the result of creativity, and sometimes artists come up with extremely unusual and incredible ways to express themselves. Do you want to meet the most incredible and original painters of our time? Then keep watching.

The nine decades of artist Yayoi Kusama’s life have taken her from rural Japan to the New York art scene to contemporary Tokyo, in a career in which she has continuously innovated and re-invented her style. Well-known for her repeating dot patterns, her art encompasses an astonishing variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, film, performance and immersive installation. It ranges from works on paper featuring intense semi-abstract imagery, to soft sculpture known as ‘Accumulations’, to her ‘Infinity Net’ paintings, made up of carefully repeated arcs of paint built up into large patterns. Since 1977 Kusama has lived voluntarily in a psychiatric institution, and much of her work has been marked with obsessiveness and a desire to escape from psychological trauma. In an attempt to share her experiences, she creates installations that immerse the viewer in her obsessive vision of endless dots and nets or infinitely mirrored space. At the centre of the art world in the 1960s, she came into contact with artists including Donald Judd, Andy Warhol, Joseph Cornell and Claes Oldenburg, influencing many along the way. She has traded on her identity as an ‘outsider’ in many contexts – as a female artist in a male-dominated society, as a Japanese person in the Western art world, and as a victim of her own neurotic and obsessional symptoms. After achieving fame and notoriety with groundbreaking art happenings and events, she returned to her country of birth and is now Japan’s most prominent contemporary artist. I provide a breakdown of how to outline and shade with stipples in this tutorial. Stippling, unlike other various shading techniques like hatching, cross-hatching, scribbling creates a unique texture but requires patience and a meticulous approach. Its fun and loose but requires some focus to keep the stipples consistent and together. Give it a shot :-)

This painting is ideal for beginners but also suitable for other levels of ability. For the beginner it gives them a chance to practice using all their tools and getting a better understanding of what they can achieve using them. It also is a lot less intimidating than having a blank canvas and having to produce a symmetric mandala plus it was great fun to create! This beautiful painting has been created using DecoArt and Artiste Acrylic paints, it has a beautiful shine when the light hits it as I have used their metallic colours as well. Created on a 20cm x 20cm stretch canvas Janette Oakman loves to bring together her love of geometric art with her new love of dot painting. Loving the work of many others, especially indigenous dot painting . People have used mandalas for hundreds of years and they have been made in so many different ways with so many different materials. Janette Oakman has used DecoArt Crafters Acrylic Paints to create her mandala . Some people create mandalas using a stick or a pencil or paintbrush, today Janette Oakman has used acrylic rods and other tools as paintbrushes that have little balls on the end. Wikipedia - Geometric abstraction is a form of abstract art based on the use of geometric forms sometimes, though not always, placed in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective (non-representational) compositions. Wikipedia - Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image Janette Oakman loves to try out many different art forms, so do check her other videos as you might see something else that you'd like to try and wasn't sure how to do it.. There is even a video on how to paint with teabags! Psychic Artist Janette Oakman lives in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk but she travels around the UK demonstrating and teaching mediumship and psychic art. If you would be interested in having her come along and do a demonstration and workshop in your church or centre, please do contact her as she would love to hear from you.

After a trip to Paris, artist Barbara Kolo was inspired to invest more time into her painting and adopted the style of pointillism seen in her work today. Kolo uses thousands of colorful dots in her paintings—which she says represent natural light—that come together to create an incredible, abstract image.

While conducting a recent research, an interesting fact came to the fore- that of use and prominence of ‘dots’ in paintings- both in Aboriginal arts as well as in Indian Madhubani paintings. As we know, Madhubani paintings have its origin in the ancient historical city of Mithila. Mithila is geographically located in North of India and had political and cultural connections with its adjoining states in Central India (Gondwana region-inhabited by the Gonds) from where it is believed the ancient migrations from India to Australia took place thousands of years ago2. Dots 2 Art: Exploring Indian Madhubani Art From The Backyard Of Australian Dot Painting, is thus a quest to unravel interesting facts on the above subject by digging a few thousand years of historical details and evidences. Was there ever a confluence of these two ancient and totemic art forms? Our quest to connect the dots took us to many places....spanning continents. As a noted Madhubani artist says, "The dots... they are everywhere; Connecting them gives the context- a philosophy, a perspective, which endures and renders the power of unitary initiatives and their appearance- as a collective power..." On one hand, we were guided by established facts and scientific evidences; while, on the other hand, we were intrigued by possibilities... ...As one noted contemporary Australian Aboriginal artist says, "....I did not know much about the Indian Madhubani art form although I find the similarities to Aboriginal dot art technique, the symbolism and celebration behind the art form uncanny"....
