(Middleman) - Freight Charge Terms FOB – Free on Board (or Freight on Board). This basically means that the cost of delivering the goods to the nearest port is included but YOU, as the buyer, are responsible for the shipping from there and all other fees associated with getting the goods to your country/address. EXW (Ex-Works) – also sometimes referred to as the Ex-Factory price. This basically means the cost of the product and nothing else! No shipping costs or export fees in China are included in this price, never mind local port and custom fees or delivery to your door. CIF – Cost, Insurance and Freight. In this case, the price also includes sea freight charges and insurance to deliver the goods to YOUR nearest port. But only to the port – from that point onwards, you take the shipment into your hands. CNF – Cost & Freight (or Cost, no Insurance, Freight). Similar to CIF only this time insurance is not included. DDP - Is a transaction where the seller (Manufacturer) pays for the total costs associated with transporting goods and is fully responsible for the goods until they are received and transferred to the buyer. This is the best type of shipping arrangement if your supplier is handling the entire shipment as they deal with everything for you. What do you need? SkyWay sea ports

01:26
We bring to your attention new presentation video materials demonstrating current trends in the development of SkyWay technology in the field of container traffic and the arrangement of port infrastructure. SkyWay sea ports are intended for transshipment of cargo from rolling stock to tankers, dry cargo and container ships, as well as for passenger transit traffic. The volume of cargo re-shipment is up to 250 million tons per year, the transit of passengers is up to 1 million people per year. The arrangement of seaports using SkyWay technology allows to locate them on the sea shelf with natural depths of 20 meters or more and distance from the coast of 1 to 10 kilometers. Due to the absence of coastal port infrastructure and the arrangement of the most efficient transportation routes, there is a significant reduction in capital expenses for construction and operational costs in comparison with conventional seaports. Construction of seaports using SkyWay technology will improve the efficiency and safety of their operation, significantly reduce logistics costs and decrease the cost of shipping. Places to see in ( Shoreham by Sea - UK ) Shoreham-by-Sea is a seaside town and port in West Sussex, England. Shoreham by Sea is bordered to its north by the South Downs, to its west by the Adur Valley and to its south by the River Adur and Shoreham Beach on the English Channel. Shoreham by Sea lies in the middle of the ribbon of urban development along the English south coast, approximately equidistant from the city of Brighton and Hove to the east and the town of Worthing to the west. Shoreham covers an area of 984.88 hectares. Old Shoreham dates back to pre-Roman times. St Nicolas' Church, inland by the River Adur, is partly Anglo-Saxon The name of the town has an Old English origin. The town and port of New Shoreham was established by the Norman conquerors towards the end of the 11th century. Shoreham Beach, to the south of the town, is a shingle spit deposited over millennia by longshore drift, as an extension to Lancing parish in the west. This blocks the southerly flow of the River Adur which turns east at this point to discharge into the English Channel further along the coast at a point that has varied considerably over time. Shoreham Airport lies to the west of the main town and has been in private ownership since 2006. It is the UK's oldest licensed airport still in operation and has a 1936 Grade II*-listed Art Deco terminal building. The town is served by Shoreham-by-Sea railway station, located on the West Coastway Line. Local bus services are provided by the Brighton & Hove bus company, Stagecoach South and a local town route is operated by Compass Travel. Shoreham Tollbridge crosses the River Adur in the west of the town. This bridge is a Grade II* listed building and was the last Sussex toll bridge in use. Places to see in ( Newbiggin by the Sea - UK )

01:58
Places to see in ( Newbiggin by the Sea - UK ) Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is a small town in Northumberland, England, lying on the North Sea coast. Once an important port for shipping grain and a coal mining town, it is still a small fishing port making use of traditional coble boats. Fishing has always been associated with Newbiggin, although later many inhabitants were employed in coal mining. By Victorian times, Newbiggin was Northumberland's favourite seaside town, attracting hundreds of visitors every day in the summer months. In 1869, there were 142 cobles (fishing boats) in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. Newbiggin Colliery was sunk in 1908. The colliery closed in 1967, but at its peak in 1940, 1,400 men were employed there. The former Newbiggin Colliery Band is now the Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band, named for its president and former member, cornet legend James Shepherd. The town was at the end of the first telegraph cable from Scandinavia in 1868, and was laid from Jutland, Denmark. Attractions in Newbiggin today include the 13th century parish church, and the new flagship Newbiggin Maritime Centre, which has replaced the former heritage centre at a cost of £3million. The lifeboat station was opened in 1851 following a fishing disaster in which ten Newbiggin fishermen lost their lives in stormy seas. It is the oldest operational boathouse in the British Isles. Celebrating over 160 years as a lifeboat station, Newbiggin has had 13 different station lifeboats over the years; today it operates an inshore Atlantic 85 lifeboat. The crews have been presented with 16 awards for gallantry. Newbiggin-by-the-Sea boasts the longest promenade in Northumberland. Each spring and autumn, the promenade becomes a prime location for naturalists watching the North Sea seabird migratory passage. Woodhorn Church was once the mother church in the Parish of Woodhorn with Newbiggin. When she was declared redundant in 1973, that role passed to St Bartholomew's. UK: AIR & SEA PORTS ON ALERT AFTER ALLEGED IRAQI ANTHRAX PLOT (3)

01:24
English/Nat British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Tuesday reassured the public amid reports that Iraq might be planning to smuggle deadly anthrax into the country. Britain's air and sea ports were put on alert following reports that President Saddam Hussein had threatened to flood Britain with the toxin disguised inside "duty free" bottles of alcohol, cosmetics, cigarette lighters and perfume sprays. Anthrax is a deadly bacteria that normally sickens animals, but the organism can be used as a weapon by releasing its spores into the air. British tabloid The Sun on Tuesday claimed that President Saddam Hussein plotted to flood Britain with the deadly anthrax. The newspaper theorised the bacteria could be hidden in duty-free bottles of alcohol, cosmetics, cigarette lighters and perfume sprays. The newspaper said a March 18 intelligence document revealed an Iraqi plot to smuggle large quantities of anthrax into "hostile countries". Speaking in Paris, however, Prime Minister Tony Blair played down any fears, saying there was no need for people to be concerned. SOUNDBITE: (English) "We've got to be on guard the whole time with Saddam Hussein. It's one of the reasons why it's so important that we took the action that we did in ensuring that the inspectors go back in and inspect the weapon-making capacity so that we can make absolutely sure that there is no question of him developing these weapons of mass destruction. But obviously these reports will come in from time to time. We remain eternally vigilant. That's the sensible thing to do, but there's no need for people to be concerned." SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister But as a result of the intelligence document, authorities patrolling Britain's air and sea ports were put on full alert. Iraq's Information Ministry said the report was unfounded and British defence experts also described the risk of anthrax being smuggled into Britain as low. But with numerous entry points into the country and the high volumes of duty-free goods imported daily, the possibility of chemical weapons being smuggled into the country cannot be ignored. 5 Mistakes New Importers Make When Importing Products from China

13:39
Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!

UK: AIR & SEA PORTS ON ALERT FOLLOWING ALLEGED IRAQI ANTHRAX PLOT

03:00
English/Nat British home secretary Jack Straw moved to reassure the public on Tuesday amid fears Iraq plans to smuggle the deadly toxin anthrax into the country. Straw told parliament the risk was low and security officials were on full alert. Anthrax is a deadly bacteria that normally sickens animals, but the organism can be used as a weapon by releasing its spores into the air British tabloid, The Sun, claimed on Tuesday that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein plotted to flood Britain with the deadly toxin anthrax. The newspaper theorized the toxin could be hidden in duty-free bottles of alcohol, cosmetics, cigarette lighters and perfume sprays. The newspaper said a March 18 intelligence document revealed an Iraqi plot to smuggle large quantities of anthrax into 'hostile countries'. A spokeswoman for British Prime Minister Tony Blair's office confirmed on Monday that the document is authentic. As a result, Britain's air and sea ports have been put on alert. Travellers at Heathrow Airport were taking the threat seriously. SOUNDBITE: (English) "There's a possibility that this might happen, and it would actually stop me from buying duty frees for a while, until I knew that the scare was over." SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop SOUNDBITE:(English) "I think its absolutely terrible, that they could do such a thing like that. I mean, how are we going to know whether its in there or not." SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop In London, Britain's Home Secretary (interior minister), Jack Straw, told the House of Commons on Tuesday that intelligence information prompted the alert at air and sea ports. He said it was unlikely that anyone had tried to smuggle anthrax into the U-K, but that the authorities were, nevertheless, alert to the possibility. SOUNDBITE: (English) "There is no evidence to indicate that any attempt has actually been made to smuggle anthrax into this country. There is also no evidence that such an attempt at smuggling might be in prospect. Madam Speaker, the house would not expect me to go into detail about the intelligence which we have, of the specific counter measures which we have taken. We do however, monitor the terrorist threat to the United Kingdom very closely, and we remain vigilant, taking all the necessary precautions." SUPER CAPTION: Jack Straw, British home secretary (interior minister) Earlier, Iraq's Information Ministry said the report was unfounded. And British defence experts also described the risks as being low. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I really think that its highly unlikely that we're really going to see something actually happening. We're not going to see a group of swarthy men coming through duty free with a bag marked 'duty frees from Baghdad Airport' carrying aerosols like this, and going around and just spraying it off on the London Underground, deadly as that would be" SUPER CAPTION: Paul Beaver, Jane's Defence Weekly But with numerous entry points into the country, and the high volumes of duty-free goods imported daily, the possibility of chemical weapons arriving in the U-K could never be ignored. These Sailors Visiting England’s Busiest Port Can’t Leave the Waiting Room | Op-Docs

07:49
Britain’s busiest container port — located, ironically, in the pro-Brexit county of Suffolk — sits in the town of Felixstowe, on the country’s eastern shore. Here, crews from around the world disembark from their ships… but often only to spend their day off in the port’s Seafarers’ Centre, a waiting room where they can call home, play music and buy souvenirs of a place they are only barely visiting. In this week’s Op-Doc, “Seafarers,” director Eleanor Mortimer takes us inside the Seafarer’s Centre to paint a contemplative portrait of sailors at rest, as the machinery of global trade grinds on around them. UK Defense Ministry sends HMS Diamond to Black Sea

00:47
The British Royal Navy is to send destroyer HMS Diamond to the Black Sea; the ship is supposed to fulfill an operative task, Daily Mail reports. While wielding the advanced anti-aircraft defense system, it is capable of shooting down hostile aircraft and drones within the range of 100 kilometers. This is the first time since the Cold War that the British naval vessel is to enter the waters of the Black Sea. The destroyer may enter the Sea Port of Odesa with 60 marines aboard. The ship will help British military men who took part in the drills on the territory of Ukraine. The British defense minister Michael Fallon stressed that this is the way that the British government confirms its support of Ukraine and its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. ******************************************************************* 112 International: Breaking News and Analysis from Ukraine and Around the World ******************************************************************* Visit our web-site: http://112.international/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/112UAInternational/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/112NewsFeed

CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt / ex-Largest Container Ship / Port of Hamburg 2013, 28th May

02:30
First Voyage from the CMA CGM "Alexander Von Humboldt" to Port of Hamburg. This HD-Video shows the CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt incoming to Port of Hamburg on 2013, May 28th. The CMA CGM "Alexander Von Humboldt" is the second one of a series of three 16.000 TEU vessels. The Container Vessel CMA CGM "Marco Polo" is the sister ship. At this time is it currently one of two of the largest Container Vessels in the world. The CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt is christened at 30th May 2013 in Hamburg. At 18 kn ship speed, the stopping distance is more than 1.6 sm! Without consideration of the propeller, the stopping distance and stop times are essentially a function of the ship's mass, ship's resistance and the initial speed, as well as the influence of the environmental conditions. The stop-path calculation of ships with great accuracy is not a simple procedure. In general, ships with variable pitch propellers have shorter stop values than ships with fixed propellers. UK sends HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier to South China Sea & Pacific show of strength to China

13:04
UK sends HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier to South China Sea & Pacific show of strength to China - The aircraft-carrier Queen Elizabeth, with two squadrons of F-35 stealth fighters on board, will be sent into disputed waters in the Pacific in a display of “hard power”, the defence secretary is due to announce in a major speech on Britain’s military strategy in the post-Brexit world. Gavin Williamson will declare the UK “may have to intervene” in future to confront aggression from countries like Russia and China who “flout international law” and are “resurgent” in rebuilding their armed forces. Britain and its western allies have to be ready “to use hard power to support our interests”, the defence secretary is due to say in an address at Royal United Services Institute in London on Monday. “We have to be ready to show the high price of aggressive behaviour, ready to strengthen our resilience.” Mr Williamson will say: “Britain has its greatest opportunity in 50 years to redefine its role as we leave the European Union. And with the world changing so rapidly it is up to us to seize the opportunity that Brexit brings. “We can build new alliances, rekindle old ones and, most importantly, make it clear that we are the country that will act when required, and a nation that people can turn to when the world needs leadership.” The defence secretary says part of the £1.8bn increase in the defence budget will fund “very significant investment” in offensive cyber operations and defence against hostile attacks on British networks. There will also be a multi-million pound war-fighting fund, with contributions from all three services to develop innovative equipment. Mr Williamson’s focus on “hard power” is a shift from the emphasis by successive UK governments on using “soft power” – diplomacy, trade and cultural exchanges – to spread British influence abroad after the long and costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sources close to Mr Williamson stress that he is fully behind using “soft power” tools but believes there must also be a willingness to deploy the armed forces when necessary. “History has taught us that crisis comes when it is least expected,” he is expected to say. “As uncertainty grows we must be ready to act and bring others with us.” In December Mr Williamson visited Odessa, the home port of the Ukrainian ships seized by Russian forces in the Black Sea and announced that he intended to send warships into the region to assert freedom of navigation. Moscow described the visit as an act of “provocation.” The planned Pacific voyage of Queen Elizabeth with its complement of Joint Strike Fighters will take the carrier into a naval arena of rising tension. China is in dispute with neighbouring states and America over the ownership of a number of islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, its claims on territorial waters and the building of naval bases, the so-called “string of pearls”. Japan, India, Australia and the US have formed the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue group, with joint naval exercises aimed at isolating China. It has described foreign warships asserting freedom of navigation in the South China Seas as a threat to its sovereignty. Michael Clarke, a senior fellow at Royal United Services Institute, said: “Leaving aside the wrongs and rights of Brexit, there is a need for Britain to engage with the rest of the world. There is nothing wrong with the Queen Elizabeth being sent to the Pacific in this kind of a deployment, after all we have already got forces back east of Suez. “Gavin Williamson seems to want to make his mark. He sees defence as an extension of foreign policy. And, so far, he has emerged as one of the very few ministers in this Conservative government whose reputation has not been badly damaged by the Brexit crisis. “The question, though, is whether he will be able to get the support of the rest of the government, his fellow ministers, in this forward policy.” General Sir Richard Barrons, who had served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Northern Ireland, commented: “There was a lot of talk of ‘soft power’, especially at the end of the Cold War, but ‘hard power’ is now back in fashion. “We have seen how certain states have taken belligerent, aggressive approach in international relations. It is the right policy that the UK should take its share of responsibility along with allies in trying to enforce the international rules based order, and the Queen Elizabeth and the JSFs is probably the right way to do it. Places to see in ( Sutton on Sea - UK )

01:36
Places to see in ( Sutton on Sea - UK ) Sutton-on-Sea is a small coastal village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated at the junction of the A52 and A1111 roads, 6 miles north-east from Alford and 2 miles south from Mablethorpe. The village is part of the civil parish of Mablethorpe and Sutton. Village facilities include a post office, public houses, a general store and a hotel, and a paddling pool on the sea front. At very low tides it is possible to view the remains of an ancient submerged forest on the beaches of Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea. The church, which is a Grade II listed building, is dedicated to Saint Clement. It was built in 1818-19 on a new site after the previous church was destroyed by the sea. The Alford and Sutton Tramway ran from Alford town to Sutton-on-Sea on rails set into the road. It opened in 1884 and closed 5 years later. Sutton-on-Sea railway station opened as part of the Sutton and Willoughby Railway. It closed on 5 October 1970 by which time it was owned by British Rail. In 1897 the village was the subject of a plan by the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway to build a port and harbour at the terminus of its East-West line to Warrington on the Manchester Ship Canal. However, by the time the line reached Lincoln the money had run out and Lincoln remained its terminus. Sutton on Sea Community Primary School was built in 1862 as a National School, becoming a board school in 1887, and a council school in 1903. It became a primary school in 1964, and has been called the Sutton on Sea Community Primary School since 1999. Stadersand is a a part of the German town Stade which is located on the west bank of the river Elbe near Hamburg. This section of the river, 60 miles long, connects the major Port of Hamburg with the North Sea, which makes this one of the busiest shipping routes in Europe. Within about the hour of my visit, several big ships came by: Container ships MSC Oriane, MOL Quest, Cape Mayor, and the hopper dredger Bartolomeu Dias. Enjoy! [© 2016 MBMARS Productions. UK: AIR & SEA PORTS ON ALERT AFTER ALLEGED IRAQI ANTHRAX PLOT (2)

03:03
English/Nat British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Home Secretary Jack Straw moved to reassure the public on Tuesday amid fears that Iraq plans to smuggle deadly anthrax into the country. Straw told parliament the risk was low and security officials were on full alert, while Blair said there was no reason for people to be concerned. Anthrax is a deadly bacteria that normally sickens animals, but the organism can be used as a weapon by releasing its spores into the air. British tabloid, The Sun, claimed on Tuesday that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein plotted to flood Britain with the deadly anthrax. The newspaper theorised the bacteria could be hidden in duty-free bottles of alcohol, cosmetics, cigarette lighters and perfume sprays. The newspaper said a March 18 intelligence document revealed an Iraqi plot to smuggle large quantities of anthrax into 'hostile countries'. A spokeswoman for British Prime Minister Tony Blair's office confirmed on Monday that the document is authentic. Speaking in Paris, Blair said there was no need for people to be concerned. That's the sensible thing to do, but there's no need for people to be concerned." SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister But as a result of the intelligence document, Britain's air and sea ports have been put on alert. Travellers at Heathrow Airport were taking the threat seriously. SOUNDBITE: (English) "There's a possibility that this might happen, and it would actually stop me from buying duty frees for a while, until I knew that the scare was over." SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop SOUNDBITE: (English) "I think its absolutely terrible, that they could do such a thing like that. We're not going to see a group of swarthy men coming through duty free with a bag marked 'duty frees from Baghdad Airport' carrying aerosols like this, and going around and just spraying it off on the London Underground, deadly as that would be" SUPER CAPTION: Paul Beaver, Jane's Defence Weekly You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/d2ef029ec1c00116911696e421be5310 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

Protesters Storm French Port: Breaking Borders

12:32
The ‘Jungle’ migrant camp in Calais, northern France, is home to over 5,000 people living in miserable conditions. Many of the residents, who have escaped war and persecution, are now seeking a better life in the UK. It is a source of frustration for the French government, where in recent weeks there have been moves to reduce the size of the Jungle, including relocating residents to converted shipping containers and bulldozing sections of the camp. On Saturday January 23, a demonstration organized by activist groups from France and the UK drew a crowd of around 2,000 campaigners and migrants, where they marched from the Jungle to the city’s central square. Yet tensions rose when more than 100 migrants broke away from the crowd, storming the port, with 50 people successfully boarding a UK-bound passenger ferry named The Spirit of Britain. VICE News meets residents of the Calais Jungle camp as authorities prepare to bulldoze parts of the site and reports from Saturday’s demonstration, witnessing the chaos that follows. Places to see in ( Gorleston on Sea - UK )

01:25
Places to see in ( Gorleston on Sea - UK ) Gorleston-on-Sea, also known colloquially as Gorleston, is a settlement in Norfolk, England, on the south of Great Yarmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Yare it was a port town at the time of the Domesday Book. The port then became a centre of fishing for herring along with salt pans used for the production of salt to preserve the fish. In Edwardian times the fishing industry rapidly declined and the town's role changed to that of a seaside resort. Historically the town was in the county of Suffolk. In the Middle Ages it had two manors, and a small manor called Bacons. In 1832, it became a part of Great Yarmouth for electoral purposes. Finally in 1835 it merged with the town and became part of Great Yarmouth in the county of Norfolk. Gorleston Barracks were established in 1853. There used to be two railway stations. Both were on the coastal line which joined Great Yarmouth with Lowestoft - Gorleston-on-Sea closed in 1970 whilst its neighbour, Gorleston North closed in 1942. It is a seaside resort and tourist destination. Its main attraction is its sandy "Edwardian Beach." It has traditional seaside gardens and model boat pond. It also has a theatre opposite the pier called the Pavilion. The main shopping centre is on High Street. It has its own golf club. There is also the hospital and a library. The nearest railway station remaining open is the Great Yarmouth railway station. There is a lighthouse, lifeboat station and coastwatch station on Riverside Road. In the Great Storm of 1987, Gorleston experienced the highest wind speed recorded in the UK on that day, which was 122 mph (196 km/h). The town is meticulously described in the novel 'Gorleston' by Henry Sutton (Sceptre, 1995) and in Philip Leslie's novels 'The History of Us' (Legend Press, 2009) and 'What Remains' (December House, 2013). Both Sutton and Leslie employ the actual names of roads and retail outlets in their work. Places to see in ( Wells next the Sea - UK ) Wells-next-the-Sea is a port on the North Norfolk coast of England. The civil parish has an area of 16.31 km². Wells next the Sea is 15 miles (24 km) to the east of the resort of Hunstanton, 20 miles (32 km) to the west of Cromer, and 10 miles (16 km) north of Fakenham. The city of Norwich lies 32 miles (51 km) to the south-east. Nearby villages include Blakeney, Burnham Market, Burnham Thorpe, Holkham and Walsingham. Wells next the Sea has long thrived as a seaport and is now also a seaside resort with a popular beach that can be reached on foot or by a narrow gauge railway that runs partway alongside the mile-long sea wall north of the harbour. The beach is known for its long flat terrain, abstract sand dunes, varied unique beach huts and a naturist area situated to the west at Holkham. A land-locked brackish pool called Abraham's Bosom is used for pleasure boating and canoeing. The beach is backed by dense pine woods which are part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve. Wells next the Sea stretches nearly a mile inland. The majority of shops and other such businesses are now found on Staithe Street but up to the 1960s commercial premises were also to be found along High Street which continues south towards St Nicholas's Church. A feature of Wells next the Sea is the area known as The Buttlands, a large green ringed by lime trees. Large elegant Georgian houses overlook The Buttlands, as do the Crown Hotel, Globe Inn and the Wells Catholic Church. If you exit The Buttlands down the hill at its south-west corner you can see Ware Hall, which was rebuilt over a period of years from the 1970s by Miss May Savidge, who brought it in parts when she moved from Ware in Hertfordshire. Formerly the town was served by Wells-on-Sea railway station and was connected to the British Rail network by two lines. The line westwards towards King's Lynn was never reinstated after damage in the 1953 East Coast Floods, while the line to Norwich via Fakenham, Dereham and Wymondham was a victim of the "Beeching Axe" of the 1960s. The fort in question appears to be Horse Sand Fort, one of the larger Royal Commission sea forts in the Solent off Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. It is 73 metres (240 ft) across, built between 1865 and 1880, with two floors and a basement and armour-plated all round. The original armament was to have been 45 10-inch and 44 12.5-inch rifled muzzle-loading (RML) guns on the gun floors and 10 12" RMLs on the roof in five turrets. In fact the turrets were never built and the limited space meant the 12.5-inch guns had to be operated with less than full charges of powder. In 1882, 12-inch rifled breech-loading guns were placed in alternate bays. Horse Sand Fort was built on a ring of masonry consisting of large concrete blocks with an outer skin of granite blocks, the interior being filled with clay and shingle and covered with a thick layer of concrete. The lower foundation walls of the fort are 18 metres (59 ft) thick. The fort is split into three levels with the top measuring 62.4 metres (204 ft 9 in) in diameter. The floors would have originally provided storage of armoury and guns and the things needed to sustain the men that were stationed on site. The top of the fort consisted of a lighthouse and various chimneys and ventilators. The fort has its own Artesian well (aquifer) which provided fresh water. The seaward side of the fort was covered in a heavy iron-armoured plating to protect it from seaborne attack. Access to the fort was by a wooden-decked landing stage supported on cast-iron piles. In the late 19th century the Solent forts were painted in a black/white checkered paint scheme as an early form of dazzle camouflage. In its unrestored state remains of this pattern is still visible on parts of Horse Sand Fort. During the Second World War extensive submarine defences were built in the form of large concrete blocks running about 1.8 metres (5.9 ft) below sea level from the fort to the shore at Southsea. With only a single narrow gap to allow small craft to pass through, this barrier (and a much shorter one running south from No Man's Land Fort towards Ryde Sands) remains as the cost of demolition is deemed too high. In March 2012, the fort was purchased by AmaZing Venues who operate the venue under the Solent Forts brand (owners of No Man's Land Fort and Spitbank Fort) and is to be converted into a museum. On designing a stackable, bioclimatic shipping container home

13:17
Motivated by her love of mobile homes and bioclimatic design, as well as the surplus of shipping containers at Athens Port Piraeus, Nastazia Spyropoulou created a passive solar container home that is topped by a living roof and has little need of traditional heating/cooling. Her prototype Cocoon Module is made from a used (though good condition) 40-foot shipping container. She tried to retain the container feel, leaving the end doors in place, though they can be opened to reveal a sliding glass door. At the opposite side she cut a small bathroom window for cross ventilation. The tiny home is well-insulated and the living roof provides an additional layer of insulation so the temperature remains stable most of the year. In order to ensure that the home can be transported with ease, Spyropoulou added supporting beams to one side which means the containers can be stacked for a second floor and additional living space at a later date. http://www.cocoonmodules.com/ *faircompanies: https://faircompanies.com/videos/on-designing-a-stackable-bioclimatic-shipping-container-home/

Sea Shepherd UK v Fish & Fish Limited

06:27
[2015] UKSC 10 UKSC 2013/0133 Sea Shepherd UK (Appellant) v Fish & Fish Limited (Respondent) On appeal from the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) (England and Wales) This appeal considered whether Sea Shepherd UK is liable in tort by common design. The appellant is the national branch of an international charity. The respondent brought a claim against it because its ship rammed the respondent’s as part of that international charity’s campaign to stop illegal tuna fishing. The respondent claimed that the appellant was liable in tort either directly—because the ramming was in furtherance of a common design with the international charity—or vicariously—because the master of the ship was acting as the appellant’s servant and not the international charity’s when he ordered the ramming. The trial judge held that the appellant was not liable on either basis. The Court of Appeal held it was liable only by common design. The Supreme Court allows the appeal by a majority of three to two.

🇳🇬Nigerian authorities move to tackle corruption at seaports | Al Jazeera English

02:54
Nigeria has been trying to grab a larger share of the traffic in West African waters. However, despite some improvements, its ports are still considered some of the worst in the world because of delays, corruption and a lack of infrastructure. And that means it's losing about $2.8bn every year to competitors. Many of the sharks were found to have their fins missing – sparking fears they may have been cut off before the fish were tossed back into the sea. South china sea: UK’s hopes of Indo-Pacific strike group with France premature

08:01
UK’s hopes of Indo-Pacific strike group with France premature SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Britain’s HMS Montrose is crossing the Pacific Ocean en route to New Zealand. The anti-submarine frigate, which made a port visit to Chile in mid-December and is ultimately bound for Bahrain, has been the fourth British warship to reach the Pacific Rim since January last year – the direct result of the European power’s renewed focus on fast-growing Asia. UK Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson has made it clear that the Royal Navy will keep an “unbroken presence” in the Indo-Pacific in 2019 and beyond. The British government says such a deployment is aimed at protecting the rules-based global order, including freedom of navigation, seen as the underpinning of Britain’s “security and prosperity as an island trading nation.” Must-reads from across Asia - directly to your inbox But without the support of French naval units, some believe the UK navy will not be able to sustain operations both in Europe and the Indo-Pacific area. Speaking to Asia Times, Yale historian Paul Kennedy expressed concern about the current size of British naval forces, despite the fact that their future warships will be more powerful than those being retired. For the author of the widely known The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, the picture could become even bleaker if the Labor Party under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn were to win the next general election in Britain, and then pass large cuts in military spending. Iain Ballantyne, the editor of Warships International Fleet Review magazine, noted that last year’s deployment in East Asia was unusual and a sign of the Royal Navy’s renewed commitment to the region after a lull in presence following disastrous defense cuts in 2010. “With the level of British naval forces that is a third what it was at the end of the Cold War, there is deep concern in some circles about ‘over-reach’ being layered on top of ‘over-stretch’ on existing commitments,”... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
