Diving in Bali (720p)

54:42
Scuba diving in Bali. This DVD is available at http://www.bubblevision.com/marine-life-DVD.htm Diving in Bali is a document of an extraordinary expedition I made to Indonesia's magical island of Bali in 2006 with Aquamarine Diving, http://www.aquamarinediving.com From Tulamben's awesome USAT Liberty wreck, to the reef manta rays of Nusa Penida, via the fascinating macro marine life of Tulamben and Seraya Secrets, the footage covers the breadth of Bali's fascinating underwater world. The video features 158 species of marine life, and their common and scientific names are available by turning on the captions with the CC button under the video. Viewers can now contribute subtitles for the marine life names in this video in many languages. Find out more at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623. From Tulamben there is footage of the wreck of the USAT Liberty in both day time and night time, including the humphead parrotfish that spend the night there. Also from Tulamben are numerous marine live encounters from dives at the Drop-Off and the Coral Garden. Just around the corner we make a dive at Seraya Secrets, a macro hotspot where I encountered seahorses and nudibranchs. From Padangbai on the east coast of Bali we have footage from The Blue Lagoon and Pura Jepun. From the island of Nusa Penida we have the manta ray cleaning station, Manta Point, and Ped. Full list of dive sites featured in this video: 1. USAT Liberty Shipwreck, Tulamben The USAT Liberty was torpedoed by the Japanese off Lombok and beached at Tulamben in Bali. In 1963 the last eruption of Mount Agung caused the wreck to slide deeper into the sea where she lies today. The USAT Liberty shipwreck makes an excellent dive site. This video features the towering stern, the coral-encrusted gun on the bow, green humphead parrotfish (Bolbometopon muricatum), a Pacific hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata bissa), garden eels, sweetlips and lots of other interesting marine life from the wreck and its surroundings. The USAT Liberty also makes a fantastic night dive. Green humphead parrotfish sleep in the protection of the wreck. Other highlights include a Spanish dancer and a bluespotted ribbontail ray. 2. Coral Garden, Tulamben The Coral Garden at Tulamben lies conveniently right off the middle of the beach. Skunk cleaner shrimps tend to moray eels and groupers at a cleaning station based around a barrel sponge. Also featuring a ribbon eel, ghost pipefish, leaf scorpionfish and trevallies schooling in the shallows. 3. Tulamben Drop-Off Video from the Drop-Off at Tulamben, Bali, featuring a spectacular giant purple knotted sea fan, nudibranchs, a ghost pipefish and a seahorse. Before and after exploring the Drop-Off we spend time in the shallows where we meet Tulamben's famous schools of trevallies. By night the drop-off at Tulamben provides plenty of treats for the visiting diver. This video includes a squat lobster, a cone shell, a dwarf cuttlefish, a hermit crab and various pretty reef fish. 4. Seraya Secrets Seraya Secrets, nearby to Tulamben, is an exellent muck dive known for weird and wonderful critters. Here we encounter some batfish around the artificial reef project in the shallows. A little deeper we find 2 thorny seahorses, catfish, an anemone crab and nudibranchs. 5. Blue Lagoon, Padangbai The Padangbai area on the east coast of Bali provides some fantastic diving. Just north of Padangbai lies the Blue Lagoon. This footage comes from my first ever dive in Indonesia with a video camera and features leaf scorpionfish, cuttelfish, anemonefish, lionfish, shrimps, catfish, nudibranchs, moorish idols and a goby. 6. Pura Jepun, Padangbai Pura Jepun also lies just north of Padangbai and is home to some fantastic marine life. This video features clownish, sweetlips, angelfish, a peacock mantis shrimp, a stingray, a panther grouper, a wart slug, ribbon eels, a scorpionfish and a flying gurnard. 7. Manta Point, Nusa Penida On the north-east side of Nusa Penida lies a cleaning station for reef manta rays (Manta alfredi) known as "Manta Point". On 23rd May 2006 we had the pleasure of diving with these graceful giants. 8. PED, Nusa Penida Ped is sloping reef on the north coast of Nusa Penida. Here we encounter a variety of tropical reef fishes including angelfish, triggerfish, anemonefish and scorpionfish, as well as a rhizostome jellyfish. Thanks to Toao (http://www.soilsound.com) for the music tracks, "Deep Blue", "Starbeam", "Afterglow", "Time & Space" and "Woodsman", and to Erik Verkoyen for "Prickly Shark". 10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

Why Fish Can Drink Salt Water And We Can’t

04:10
When we drink saltwater it can kill us, yet our oceans are teeming with life. Why can some species survive in saltwater while others can’t? Why Can’t Some Birds Fly? ►►►► http://bit.ly/1UFLfQM Sign Up For The TestTube Newsletter Here ►►►► http://bit.ly/1myXbFG Read More: Study Sheds New Light on How Some Fish Adapt to Saltwater http://phys.org/news/2013-10-fish-saltwater.html “Tilapia fish readily adapt to fresh or salty water, making them both good candidates for aquaculture and potential invasive pests. New work at the University of California, Davis, shows how tilapia can change the protein makeup of their gills, allowing them to nimbly adjust to widely varying levels of water salinity.” Why Is the Ocean Salty? http://ponce.sdsu.edu/usgs_why_is_the_ocean_salty/usgs_why_is_the_ocean_salty.html “How salty the ocean is, however, defies ordinary comprehension. Some scientists estimate that the oceans contain as much as 50 quadrillion tons (50 million billion tons) of dissolved solids. If the salt in the sea could be removed and spread evenly over the Earth's land surface it would form a layer more than 500 feet thick, about the height of a 40-story office building.” How Do Salmon Change From Freshwater to Saltwater Fish? https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/05/150505082825.htm “For decades, researchers have tried to find out what regulates changes in salmon when they transform from being freshwater to saltwater fish. Now they have come a little closer to an answer. A new study shows that light -- increases in day length in the spring -- affects developmental processes in the fish's brain during smoltification.” ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! 500 + Fish Identification Documentary by Pano4life

52:31
A few years ago I was stung by the "Diving" virus. I quickly became an instructor and over time I was able to accumulate more than 6000 dives mainly in Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia. During these dives, I noticed how fragile the ecosystems are. I came up with the idea of filming everything I could for fear of not seeing it again one day. Of course I could not take my camera for each of these dives but I do it whenever I have the opportunity. Today we were able to identify and filmed in full HD 500 different underwater species. This documentary of 60 minutes retraces these different species with the scientific description and the Latin name of each species. Our goal is to show the world how precious the oceans are and full of life that unfortunately the humanity is likely to endanger ... We sometimes forget that the oceans provide us with more than 60% of the oxygen we we need to live. Half of the photosynthesis and removal of carbon dioxide takes place in the oceans. Marine species play a key role in this regulation. It is therefore important to identify and protect them. Unfortunately for humans, this protection is not a priority. On the contrary, the human pressures on the oceans are increasing every day, the impact is irreversible! Through this documentary, we hope to be able to arouse interest on the various underwater species and their protection. We also say to ourself that if our future generations also want to be able to contemplate the beauty of our planet, we have to act quickly! If we continue like this, our grandchildren will not even see a quarter of what you see in this documentary. I would especially like to thank my partner and dive Buddy Lily Romero who filmed and helped me editing this amazing video. As well as laurent Minsart for some macro shots in Lembeh, Indonesia. Special Big Up to all those who participated by loan or by far at this documentary, Dive Guide Local Boat Captain. Deep Sea Fish Farming in Geodesic Domes: Upgrade

10:03
In this episode of Upgrade, Motherboard goes to Baja California, Mexico to get a firsthand look at these free floating pods, and to get an understanding for why we need better ways to cultivate our future food sources. Whether it’s found on a plate of sushi, grilled in our backyard, or thrown on pasta, seafood is a staple for many diets around the world, and demand is growing. And as the commercial seafood industry booms, fish stocks worldwide face perilous declines. We’ve surpassed our capacity to sustainably fish wild caught fish, shrimp, and mollusks from the ocean, and so we’ve turned to aquaculture, or fish farming, as a strategy to meet demand for our growing appetites for water-borne critters. The aquaculture industry is growing fast. According to the FAO, per capita production of seafood from aquaculture has increased 6.9 percent annually since 1970. Unfortunately for us and for our Earth, current methods of fish farming often involve crowded, tethered pens, which can have poor water circulation and contribute to the spread of disease, and put large amounts of environmental stress on the surrounding waterways. This is where Steve Page of Ocean Farm Technologies comes in. Taking inspiration from naturally-occurring schools of fish and Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes, Page co-designed the Aquapod, a free floating, untethered deep ocean fish habitat which reduces overcrowding, and creates less stress on surrounding environments due to its unique ability to change location with the ocean's current. Most Unusual Fish in the Ocean

10:03
The ocean is home to the most bizarre creatures on earth from the fish with a snake's head to one-eyed freaks of nature! 6- Salp Salp or salpa is a barrel-shaped, planktonic tunicate that moves by contracting and then pumping water through its gelatinous body. The system of jet propulsion used by salp is one of the animal kingdoms most efficient. While pumping water through its body the internal feeding filters allow it to feed on phytoplankton. Salp can be found in equatorial water, temperate and even in cold seas. They can be seen on the surface, singly although usually in long, stringy colonies. They are found in their greatest numbers in the Southern Ocean near to Antarctica. In the deep waters of the Southern Ocean they are known to form enormous swarms and are more abundant than krill. A single salp is between 1 and 10 cm tall and a single creature can asexually produce tens of thousands of individuals which will be released from the parent at a small size. They remain attached to each other in the chain, feeding and growing until the food sources becomes too inadequate to sustain the chain. 5- Lancetfish The lancet fish is a large predatory fish also known as a scale-less lizard due to its appearance. They can grow up to 2m in length although little is known about this fish except that it is found in all the world’s oceans except the Polar Regions. They have been recorded as far north as Greenland and are often caught by vessels fishing for tuna. There are two species of lancetfish, the short snouted and the long snouted. Both species have relatively long and pointed snouts. The short snouted lancetfish has a slightly shorter snout than the other species. The main feature of the lancet fish is its high and long dorsal fin. The dorsal fin contains 41 to 44 rays occupying the greater length of the fish’s back. The fin is twice as high as the fish is deep. The mouth is wide with two or three fang like teeth on each jaw with numerous smaller teeth. There are no scales present on this fish and the fins are very fragile. 4- Cornet fish Cornet fish are also known as flutemouth. There are four species that can be found in the tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. They can be found on soft sea floors such as sand flats, sea grasses and coral reefs. They possess an elongated snout that ends with a mouth containing minute teeth. At the other end of their body is the end of the backbone extending to a forked tail fin. The largest cornet fish can grow to up to 2m in length. The blue spotted cornet fish and the red cornet fish are found in the Oceans of the Atlantic and western Pacific as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The reef cornet fish and deepwater cornet fish are primarily found in the eastern Pacific Ocean. 3- Armored Searobin The armored searobin is also known as the armored gurnard and is found in deep waters of the world’s tropical regions. They are related to the family of searobins in the Triglidae family. They are different from searobins in that they are encased in heavy scales that feature prominent spines. They also have prominent barbells on their chins. They have large pectoral fins which when they are swimming open and close like a birds wings in flight. They are able to glide short distances above the surface of the water, similar to that of a flying fish. They prefer to be in deeper water often down to 200m below the surface. They measure about 30 to 40 cm long, with a solid skull. When caught they make a croaking noise similar to a frog. 2- Mystery Fish This unknown fish was found in a fish market in Japan. It has been researched on several sites but remains without a name. So for this final entry into the unusual fish the question is being asked. Do you know what type of fish this is? Let us know in the comment section below! 1- Fish Snake The fish snake is also known as the snakehead and is a freshwater fish native to Africa and Asia. They are an elongated predator with long dorsal fins, large mouths and shiny teeth. The fish snake is also able to breathe air through its gills allowing them to cover short distances across land. The fish snake is a notorious intentionally released invasive species becoming very successful due in part to having no natural predators in those regions it has been introduced into. Adult fish snakes will eat other fish, frogs and occasionally small mammals such as rats. There are around 40 species of fish snake with the smallest being the dwarf snakehead growing to just 25cm or 10 inches. Most species grow to between 30 and 90 cm (12-35 inches). There are 5 species that reach in excess of 1m (3ft 3in).
