In this session we will look into some internals of Oracle background process communication and also some special types of wait events that most people aren’t aware of. We will use some exotic tracing for internals research and fun and some of this stuff is actually useful in real life too! I’m not going to reveal everything upfront, as this is a secret internals hacking session after all ;-) We will use various techniques to research what the “reliable message” wait event is about and how reliable background process communication is orchestrated in Oracle. This is a hacking session, not formal structured training, so I’ll just do free form demos and talk (probably no slides, just hacking stuff on the command line). Also, check out my full-week Advanced Oracle Troubleshooting online training at https://blog.tanelpoder.com/seminar

Why I Need To Know. Have you have ever needed to know or wanted to know how to identify an Oracle client process and its associated foreground process from outside of Oracle, at the operating system? And, prompt using a command like "ps"? In this video tutorial, I'll show you how to do this using the super flexible OS "ps" command. It's very cool and is the first step to relating what we see from an internal Oracle perspective using V$ views to what we see from an OS perspective using a command like "ps.” Founder and Oracle ACE Director, Craig Shallahamer, is a long time Oracle DBA who specializes in Oracle performance. He is a performance researcher and blogger, consultant, conference speaker, and a teacher to Oracle professionals.

CAPTIONS AVAILABLE - I assume that it's the "I like!" votes that keep this video at or near the top when you search on "oracle". Thank you to all. S. Faroult View on www.konagora.com where Youtube is blocked. Full transcript (with some screenshots) available for a small fee at http://stores.lulu.com/konagora/. A pretty reckless description of what happens when you start Oracle and when you execute a statement. If you're a developer, it could influence how you code. If you're a junior DBA, or would be junior DBA, I hope it will help you make sense of some parts of the "Concepts" manual.

SQl management studio provides lot of facilities to manage SQL processes. The “Activity monitor screen” which will show you some very useful and important information about SQL processes. It will show you all active processes, there status, number of open transactions for each process, the application by which the process is generated, Wait time CPU and memory utilisation, and the host name, means the host or the machine by which the process is initiated etc. If a process is hanging, it will show the process icon with an hour glass. Refresh it several times, sometimes the icon will turn to sleep mode if the process completes its execution. If the icon remains an hour glass, the process may be hanging. Use other info as well to decide if the process is really hanging. If you double click on the process ID it will show the SQL stamen subjected to the execution of the process. If a process is hanging you can identify which application has originated the process, which SQL stamen is hanging and even more from which machine or the host the process is initiated If some application users are complaining about uneven slowness, uneven timeouts etcetera, the reason behind may be one or more processors are hanging. What can you do now? You can restart the SQL server or the service which will disconnect all databases and all applications disturbing all the users. Or otherwise you can take the database to off line and bring it back to online. Or you can disconnect all connections to the database. The disturbance may be lesser than the previous case but still lot of applications and users can be disturbed, especially in an industrial setup. And still you do not know the real reason for the slowness or the malfunctioning as well. So what can you do? Go and examine the processors. Identify exactly which process is hanging. And most probably you will be identifying how and why. So you can find permanent solution. But the immediate solution is you can kill the troubling process or the few. It will solve the issue with minimum disturbance immediately. After identifying the correct process, you can right click on the process ID and click on ‘Kill process’ button. It will kill the selected process. You can kill processors using SQL statements and, using SQL commands you can kill all processors at once as well. Code for Killing Processes Individually USE master go DECLARE @dbname sysname SET @dbname = 'YourDB' EXECUTE ('KILL 53') Code for killing all Processes USE master go DECLARE @dbname sysname SET @dbname = 'YourDB' DECLARE @spid int SELECT @spid = min(spid) from master.dbo.sysprocesses where dbid = db_id(@dbname) WHILE @spid IS NOT NULL BEGIN EXECUTE ('KILL ' + @spid) SELECT @spid = min(spid) from master.dbo.sysprocesses where dbid = db_id(@dbname) AND spid @spid END

User Session and Connection A connection is communication pathway between user and instance. When a user connects to database, a user process is created, when he gets access to database a server process is created on server side. Both user process and server process communicate over connection and is called a user session. If connection is not established then there is no user session. So, a session is a user current state in database instance

https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-11gr2-rac-for-beginners A computer cluster consists of a set of loosely or tightly connected computers that work together so that, in many respects, they can be viewed as a single system. Unlike grid computers, computer clusters have each node set to perform the same task, controlled and scheduled by software. The components of a cluster are usually connected to each other through fast local area networks, with each node (computer used as a server) running its own instance of an operating system. In most circumstances, all of the nodes use the same hardware and the same operating system, although in some setups (i.e. using Open Source Cluster Application Resources (OSCAR)), different operating systems can be used on each computer, and/or different hardware.

Oracle is building out many new services based on Docker containers and Kubernetes to optimize resource consumption and DevOps processes. As those technologies gain more traction, many wonder how to handle containers in development, how to test containerized services, and what options there are for CI/CD. In this session Oracle engineers share the entire DevOps flow they have implemented for their production services from development all the way to testing in production. You will gain deep insight into the decisions involved for what goes into container base images, what the CI pipeline looks like, how testing is done, when to promote new container images, and how different versions are handled. At the end of the session you will understand what it takes to build out a DevOps pipeline for production grade containerized cloud services. Boris Scholl VP Product Management, Microservices Oracle

Hi Friends, Let's come into the development/implementation part. Environment variables We have two types of environment variables, mean we can declare process level and business level in System Manager. See here, You saw this, I created one environment variable in Business level but I can see under process also. Then why the tool differentiated under process and business object? It's a categorizing the variables that's it. we will access the created environment variable in process Here is my process, let's access the varible into internal data item. I Created the local data item. to access the environment variable configure the local data item. We have the Expose option in data item, open it and see 'Environment - Read the corresponding Environment variable from System Manager' But I didn't find my 'hello' variable. Let's close and reopen it. See I got it and select the env variable name from the list. But how can I see value for that environment variable. Let's do it. 1. I created another local variable and using calculation stage copying the value from configured data item to local variable. Can we edit the environment variable value? Try that once. See, before executing the bot while reset, I am getting error message open and see that what is the message 'Cannot store data in an environment variable' even If you run it won't work. See that I got the internal exception. Environment variables are final variables, once you declare the varible only you can change the value in System Manager and cannot be possible through process/Business Object. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's create/open another process or business object and see can we able to access the same environment variable or not? See I got the environment variable and it's value in newly created process. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now we will see about Session Varible. let's revert the code of existing process as I will concatenate the environment variable value to local variable and storing the result into local variable. Let's run and check it. I got the concatenated value. If we run through control room can we see these value? Let's publish our process and run it from control room. process started and finished. Where we can see the session variables. There is a link to see session variables 'Show Session Variables' I enabled, let's run and check it Started and finished, but we cannot see the data item value. Because we didn't configured the data item to show in session variables list. For this, we need to expose the local data item to show in session variables list. Open the process and open the data item and choose the option called 'Session - Expose the data item to Control Room' Now run and check it once We did the right way to show the data item in session variables list but why can't we see the variable value? To that the process/business object show wait for some to before complete it. Because our process is very small. let's use the wait stage before end Ohh! We don't have wait stage in process, how use the sleep Action in General Business Object. drag the Action stage and choose the values. I choosen the 'Utility - General' and Sleep and passed the how many seconds should wait our process let's run and see it See that while the process is in running mode we can see the configured session variable. After finished the process it's gone. Thank you for watching video
