Men's suits in the 1930s were tailored to create the illusion of a large torso, with wide, padded shoulders and tapering sleeves. Trouser pants were still creased and cuffed at the bottom. However, the Great Depression put many men out of work, and many families fell on hard times. Not all men could afford the fashionable suits. More traditional, nondescript work clothes were worn by the average man. Wide, padded shoulders, tapering sleeves, peaked lapels, and V-shaped neck all characterize the 1930s suit. These vintage photographs capture men's fashions of the 1930s.

A playsuit was a one-piece romper. The top resembled a button-down blouse that would come in at the waist and extend into shorts. Teens and grown women during the 1940s wore what were actually called playsuits. Vintage playsuits were worn outdoors – either at the beach, in the backyard to catch some sun or for sportswear. They were usually made of cotton, although they could also be found in rayon. They were brightly colored with reds, greens, yellows and blues, and were often done in patterns, checks and plaids. Floral and Hawaiian prints were popular towards the end of the decade. These photos show young women wearing playsuits in the 1940s.

Iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld died at age 85 in Paris on February 19, 2019 following a short illness. He was born Karl Otto Lagerfeldt in 1933 in pre-war Germany. Lagerfeld changed his original surname from Lagerfeldt, because he believed it sounded “more commercial”. He emigrated to Paris as a young teenager, and became a design assistant for Pierre Balmain, before working at Fendi and Chloe in the 1960s. The German designer was known as the creative director of the French luxury fashion house Chanel (from 1983 until his death), as well as creative director of the Italian fur and leather goods fashion house Fendi and his own eponymous fashion label. Over the decades, he collaborated on a variety of fashion and art-related projects. He was well recognized around the world for his white hair, black sunglasses, fingerless gloves, and high starched collars. Shown is a gallery of 30 vintage photographs of a young Karl Lagerfeld in the 1950s and 1960s.

It’s Loux again! He’s the most badass fashion blogger and designer from Namibia and has an amazing style. This self-proclaimed vintage guru is all about retro clothing and showing the world that a great style doesn’t have to be expensive. You can just style up clothes from your grandparents closet or second hand stores and modernize them. Now, he’s telling IntoConnection about Khumbula. Khum-what? Khumbula is a fashion and photography movement in South Africa. It’s six young members (four stylists, one photographer and a poet) create stunning images with amazing vintage style. The referring to the past is however not just found in the fashion that Khumbula creates, as the overall nature of the movement is linked strongly to nostalgia as well. ‘Turn back the clock for something fashion forward’ is the punchline of the group. This nostalgic theme of Khumbula might seem odd, because the history of Africa hasn’t always been a bright one. Loux explains us however that the following of traditions is a really important thing in Africa. They want to pass on the story of their grandfathers to the new generations and raise awareness about African roots and heritage. This way, they find positivity in a sometimes painful past and teach to be forgiveful and look towards a brighter future. Once again, Loux brings us amazing photos, together with Khumbula. The 1920s marked the beginning of an unprecedented era of freedom for women. Not only did they gain the right to vote in 1920, but women also began to play a more active role in sports, social life and even the workplace. In accordance with their changing roles in society, women adopted new fashions that permitted them more freedom of movement than the tight-laced Victorian and Edwardian garments they had previously worn.

When Queen Victoria decided to wear a white dress for her wedding to Prince Albert, she started a custom that has remains to this day, having popularised the concept of a white wedding. Brides didn’t traditionally wear white until after Queen Victoria had, with many of the affluent members of society during the Victorian era following suit and donning elegant white gowns for their ceremonies. These wedding dresses evolved throughout the era as well, and many aspects of a modern wedding dress have been influenced by the various styles of the time. For example, a fitted bodice was first popularised during the early Victorian era, and with the dressed tending to have very small waists and a full skirt.

In his day, the Hungarian Martin Munkacsi (1896–1963) was one of the most famous photographers in the world. His dynamic photographs of sports, entertainers, politics, and street life in Germany and Hungary from the late 1920s and 1930s, were taken in a new, freewheeling style that captured the speed and movement of the modern era. Many of those early photographs were published in German photo weeklies, where Munkacsi made his reputation doing reportage, often from exotic locales. In 1933, Munkacsi turned his energetic style to fashion photography, making images of models running on the beach. Those pictures revolutionized fashion photography with their informality and vitality. Soon after he was offered a contract by Carmel Snow, the editor of Harper's Bazaar, and he left for New York, where he made his fame and fortune. 1920s, 1930s, fashion & clothing, life, life & culture, people, photography, street

The 1920s also known as the roaring twenties is the year of explosive creativity and innovative fashion styles. The economic prosperity after the First World War brought about widespread availability of high fashion items to almost all walks of life. It was the decade where people became bold and daring about their fashion styles, abandoning the formal and restricted fashions of the past years. If it weren’t for fashion designers from the 1920s, we wouldn’t have laid our hands on timeless fashion items like cloche hats, flapper dresses, and high heeled shoes. As a remembrance of the era’s flourishing fashion game, here are photos showing the amazing women’s street style from the 1920s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iwUmrAFmoc Hello Dear friend! The 1920s saw a modernisation in fashion. It continued the change from more restrictive fashions of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Men also began to wear less formal daily attire and athletic clothing or 'sportswear' became a part of mainstream fashion for the first time. The 1920s are characterised by two distinct periods of fashion: in the early part of the decade, change was slower, and there was more reluctance to wear the new, revealing styles made popular. From 1925, the public more passionately embraced the styles now typically associated with the Roaring Twenties. These styles continued to characterise fashion until the worldwide depression worsened in 1931.

We present some rare images of Native American women and children because history of that time is not usually told with honesty, and it rarely tells anything about the most vulnerable. Behind the history of Chiefs and the struggles of the Native Americans to preserve their lands, their way of life and just to survive, there were women and children.
