How to write like an architect

02:36
Take the 'How to Write Like an Architect Course,' Plus get Doug's hand written architecture font. https://thearchitectsacademy.usefedora.com/p/how-to-write-like-an-architect Hi Im Doug Patt and this is how to architect. Today well learn How to write like an architect. The basic drafting tool for an architect when working by hand is a parallel rule. You can also use a t-square. Ill be using an ames lettering guide to create the lines for the lettering. First were going to create our horizontal lines using the lettering guide. The guide has a variety of spacing options to create just about any combination your looking for. I will also be using a small triangle. Ive added tape to this one for ink lettering to avoid smearing. Ill also be using a .5mm pentel drafting pencil and a paper mate, flair pen for the letters. Ive created a small grid here to give me some guidance when I lay out the letters. Id say the most important thing to remember about hand lettering is that your letters need to seem animated while still appearing orderly and neat. I think this is achieved by using a few conventions. For example, youll notice the letters have some amount of incompleteness. The second diagonal on the A does not follow all the way to the guide line, the bottom of the B or D isnt complete, The bottom line on the E starts in front of the vertical. The second thing is that all the horizontals in the letters are drawn by hand, not using the parallel rule. They all sit at a slight angle making them dynamic and yet uniform. Youll also notice that I use the ruler for all vertical lines. Lastly, when making your Os, Qs, Cs, Gs, even 8s and 9s, the letters and numbers are simply combinations of semi circles. Even the letter S is made the same way. These are two images from my portfolio. They are good examples of how your strings of words will come together to form orderly yet animated paragraphs. This is a quote I found from Tyron Edwards Dictionary of thoughts I enjoy referring to from time to time. It seemed appropriate for a youtube video because giving people the most amount of knowledge in the least amount of time is really what drives the information age. So, remember hand lettering is about style and legibility. Mine is definitely stylized and probably a little tough to read sometimes. So thanks for checking out how to write like an architect. Im Doug

UH Writing Center's six tips to overcome writer's block

03:24
Perhaps you have just started to sit down and write your assignment. Maybe it’s a literary analysis, research paper, or something for your creative writing class. Suddenly, your ideas just stop flowing. What do you do when you just can’t write anymore? You might have writers block. It’s a condition in which the writer loses the ability to produce new work, be it for an assignment or for their own creative purposes. Everyone gets writers block, including famous authors like F. Scott Fitzgerald and even Charles Schultz. But hold up, there’s no need to freak out! Here are University of Houston Writing Center’s six tips to help you get through Writer’s block. First, it’s a great idea to start early. When you start projects or assignments at the last minute and writer’s block hits, it can feel like a nightmare. We all procrastinate, but it is never a good idea. When you get the assignment, try to at least brainstorm or even make an outline the day it’s assigned. This way it’s still fresh in your mind. If nothing else, make a personalized goal list with deadlines to keep you on track. Start writing early and you could reduce a lot of stress on yourself. Sometimes we hit writers block because we are missing key information. It’s a great idea to sometimes go back to the drawing board. Step back and take a look at what you are writing from a different point of view. You might need to go to the library to do more research or you might just need to go back and outline your thoughts. Even if an idea sounds bad, don’t be afraid to take a chance on it; it could lead you to an idea you wouldn’t have thought of before! When in doubt, look at the prompt and make sure you understand what is being asked of you. What are you attempting to accomplish, what the purpose is, and what the specific guidelines are. Confused? Ask your instructor or maybe make an appointment with the Writing Center. Next, you will want to eliminate any distractions. Social media is fun but it can easily keep you from being focused while working. Make sure you only have what you need open on your computer. Sometimes a blank screen can be overwhelming. When this happens, try pulling out a sheet of paper and pencil and write from there first. Finding a quiet place to write might be difficult but it can also help. Remember that maintaining focus is crucial! Still having trouble? Try taking a break! Sometimes our mind becomes overworked, and when we are over worked, we might not be as productive. Go for a walk, talk with friends, or have an impromptu dance party. Go to the gym and exercise or try some yoga poses and meditation. Relax; the ideas will come to you. Did you know your brain is still active while you sleep? Next time you have trouble putting your thoughts to paper, try writing something right before you go to sleep. Your subconscious sometimes continues to mull these ideas over in your head. When you first wake up, your brain is refreshed and you might have a new idea for what you’re writing. Sometimes all you need is a fresh perspective. Finally, remember to not panic. Everyone has writer’s block at some point in the process, and everyone has a different method for getting through it. Take a deep breath and relax because writer’s block doesn’t last forever. Remember that you have a variety of resources at your disposal, including your University of Houston Writing Center. Our consultants can help you tackle the frustrations of Writer’s block. All that’s needed is for you to make an appointment on our website. We’ll be waiting!

Quentin Tarantino Writing Masterclass (A collection of advice)

49:21
Quentin Tarantino Writing Masterclass I wanted to piece together all of the best bits of QT's advice on just writing. This content is all referenced below. I was going to add a complete musical score to go along with this but opted out as it became a little too distracting. CHAPTERS: 1. Developing ideas & Outlining 2:35:21 2. Create a World 11:37:15 3. Characters 14:04:02 4. Dialogue 15:37:15 5. Structure 19:51:27 6. Writing Process 27:15:26 7. Rejection 38:13:01 8. Writers Groups & Being Around More Talented People 40:21:26 9. Advice for Writers 43:38:24 Quentin Jerome Tarantino (born March 27, 1963) is an American film director, writer, and actor. His films are characterized by nonlinear storylines, satirical subject matter, an aestheticization of violence, extended scenes of dialogue, ensemble casts consisting of established and lesser-known performers, references to popular culture, soundtracks primarily containing songs and score pieces from the 1960s to the 1980s, and features of neo-noir film. He is widely considered one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. ADDITIONAL QUOTES from Tarantino on Writing: - "The good ideas will survive." - "I'm very happy with the way I write. I think I do it good. But I've never really considered myself a writer." - "As a writer, I demand the right to write any character in the world that I want to write. I demand the right to be them, I demand the right to think them and I demand the right to tell the truth as I see they are." - "You can't write poetry on the computer" - "I try not to get analytical in the writing process. I try to just kind of keep the flow from my brain to my hand as far as the pen is concerned and go with the moment and go with my guts. - "If I'm doing my job right, then I'm not writing the dialogue; the characters are saying the dialogue, and I'm just jotting it down." - "Don't write what you think people want to read. Find your voice and write about what's in your heart." 15 Secret WhatsApp Tricks You Should Try

08:26
15 WhatsApp Secret Features You Probably Didn’t Know About. Did you know how to find out the exact time someone read your message? Watch the video and learn all these amazing WhatsApp hacks! It's no wonder that in recent years WhatsApp became a huge part of our lives – it's convenient, quick and easy to use. Pretty much everyone has a large WhatsApp contact list and spend hours each day to catch up with their families, friends or plan some events! TIMESTAMPS How to change the font on WhatsApp 0:35 How to change font style on WhatsApp 1:04 Most popular contacts on WhatsApp 1:36 Muting group chats 2:03 How to make personal information private 2:33 Stop auto-saving 3:07 How to add dates to the calendar 3:35 Add a chat link to your home screen 4:01 How to send a message using Siri 4:28 Back your chat messages 4:53 Send a giant beating heart 5:27 Star the messages 5:49 How to secretly read messages 6:20 How to disable previews 7:03 Find out the exact time someone has read your text 7:33 SUMMARY - Just simply put this ` symbol three times before and after your text message! Like this, ` ` ` Hello!` ` `. - For bold messages, you have to put asterisks before and after your message (*Hello!*). You can send italics messages by adding underscores (_Hello!_). And your message can also be transformed to strikethrough by using tildes (~Hello!~). Plus, you can combine these styles by putting two or even all three symbols together (_~*Hello!*~_). - This works only on iOS devices. You can do that by heading to Settings and then picking Account and Storage Usage. You'll see the list of all your WhatsApp contacts and groups as well as the total number of messages you've sent and received for each one of them! - If there is some group chat or a person that's constantly bothering you with endless messages, you can simply mute it. Just pick the chat, click on its name or the name of the contact on top of the screen and select mute. You'll have an option to mute it for 8 hours, a week or even a year! - Go to Settings, then click Account and select Privacy. Here you can control what users will see your profile picture, status and last time you were seen on WhatsApp. - If you're sick and tired of constantly deleting unnecessary photos that your contacts message you, you can turn the auto-saving off. Again, go to Settings, then select Chats and turn off Save Incoming Media. - If you type a certain date in your message, it will appear as a hyperlink. If you tap on it, you'll be given an option to create an event in your calendar. So you can simply plan some adventures with your friends, work meetings or any other important events right from your WhatsApp. - If you're texting somebody pretty much all day or have a favorite chat that you need quick access to, you can easily add a link to it to your home screen. This works for Android devices. All you need to do is tap and hold on a chat and then click on three vertical dots on the top right of your screen and choose Add Conversation Shortcut. - Just say “Hey, Siri, send a WhatsApp to” and name the contact needed. - If you like to read old messages and get nostalgic from time to time, you can always back your history up on iCloud (for iPhone users) or Google Drive (for Android). If you have an iPhone and you want to back up a certain chat, just click on its name, then on the name of the contact and you'll see an option E-mail conversation. - If you want to express your feelings for someone in a whole other dimension, just send a red heart alone without any other emojis or words. You may think it's nothing much, but amazingly enough, it turns into a big beating heart. - For iOS users, there is a simple solution. Just double tap on a message and select the star icon. - When you receive a message don't open it right away and dismiss all the notifications. Then, set your phone on airline mode that will turn your Wi-Fi or Internet connection off. After that just open your app and read the text. - . WhatsApp thought about that and allowed its users to disable those little previews. To do so, you have to go to Settings, click Notifications and there you'll see the option Disable Show Preview. - Hold on any of your messages you're interested in and choose Info. There you'll see the time your message was sent and also the time it was read. Which one of these features did you like the most? Did you know about some of them? How To Dodge Punches - Trav's Head Movement Training - Learn How To Slip a Punch and Counter Punch

09:01
How To Dodge Punches - https://howtofightnow.com/bobandweave-2-footwork/?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=Link%20in%20Bio&utm_campaign=How%20To%20Dodge%20Punches%20-%20Trav's%20Head%20Movement%20Training%20-%20Learn%20How%20To%20Slip%20a%20Punch%20and%20Counter%20Punch It's not hard to learn how to slip punches. You will be amazed at how little you have to move your head in order to slip a punch. Dodging punches doesn't have to waste a lot of energy. You can slip punches with very small head movements and make your opponent miss easily... then you can counterpunch and completely smash his face. My head movement training program is fantastic. I combine boxing techniques and MMA techniques to give you the most efficient ways to make a punch miss from all martial styles. You can get these lessons FREE at http://howtofightnow.com. If you want to learn more about dodging punches and workouts to teach you head movement training, that is the place to go. Have fun on the site, and post in the forum if you have any questions about slip or dodge training, or if you want to learn how NOT to dodge punches like anderson silva, go to the website. http://howtofightnow.com Boxing dodge... yes.... http://howtofightnow.com I have a HUGE pile off MMA technique videos which can be found free at How To Fight Now .com - The Fight Smart Training Program. Lot's of people want to learn how to fight, but they have no idea where to look. You can find a lot of street fighting videos on YouTube, and a lot of videos titled "how to win a street fight", but most of them are crap. I personally don't want to learn from some dude punching a couch cushion in his back-yard, with his twitchy girlfriend holding his IPhone camera... but that's just me. I created the fight smart training program to teach people how to fight with REAL TECHNIQUES that work... I gathered them in my career as a professional fighter. If these techniques work in the cage, they will certainly work in a street fight. A lot of times, I had these moves used against me... and it hurt. I don't care what your purposes are: self-defense, a personal quest, or just to be a more powerful bully... it doesn't matter. My job is to provide you with the realest fighting moves out there, and to teach you how to fight and win every time. Be sure to check out my website... I have far more video on http://howtofightnow.com than I have in my YouTube channel.... and they're free.... because I'm cool like that. Check out the website and good luck learning how to punch, how to kick, how to do Jiu Jitsu, how to do Muay Thai kickboxing, and how to do any of the other Keywords that I'm trying to target by writing this channel description.

The Making Of Childish Gambino's "Redbone" With Ludwig Göransson | Deconstructed

07:23
Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” the second single off of his 'Awaken, My Love!' album, centers on the narrative of infidelity and paranoia. The track got a prominent placement in the opening moments of Jordan Peele’s record-breaking movie Get Out, too, leading to Platinum certification. Its instrumentation is a collaboration between Donald and Swedish composer and producer Ludwig Göransson; the two have frequently worked together since the 2010 'Culdesac' mixtape. He went to the studio not knowing what the two had in store that day. 10:16
More information in the website article - https://nickferry.com/2018/03/best-way-for-gluing-wood-together-to-get-thick-pieces-ep86/ including links to the wood clamps Sometimes you need to glue boards together to make up thicker stock for table legs, furniture making & turning projects. This is the best way for gluing wood together to get thicker boards. Super simple but effective way to keep all the wood aligned while clamping just by using a parallel clamp and some f style clamps. I find this method a lot easier than using cauls, salt or nails. Rich's Channel - https://goo.gl/FYYs71 MORE THAN YOUTUBE? - Don't miss out!
