Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]

07:54
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2019)

06:51
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. The Art of Product Management with Sachin Rekhi (ENG’05 W’05)

01:07:06
Product managers drive the vision, strategy, design, and execution of their product. While one can often quickly comprehend the basic responsibilities of the role, mastering each of these dimensions is truly an art form that one is constantly honing. In this presentation I'll share my lessons learned over the last decade as a product manager in Silicon Valley on the art behind each of these dimensions of product management. Sachin Rekhi is a serial entrepreneur and product leader who has spent the last decade developing innovative products in Silicon Valley. Sachin most recently founded Connected, a professional contact manager that was acquired by LinkedIn in 2011 and re-launched as LinkedIn Contacts. He went on become head of product for LinkedIn Sales Navigator, LinkedIn's flagship offering for sales professionals. Prior to Connected, Sachin founded Anywhere.FM, a web music player that allowed users to upload, play, and discover music online, which was acquired by imeem in 2008. Sachin started his career at Microsoft as a product lead on Visual Studio, Microsoft's developer tools platform. Sachin recently left LinkedIn and has been advising early-stage startups on product strategy, design, and growth.

Basic tech skills for a Product Manager

01:16:14
We see lots of entrepreneurs struggling to explain their product in a clear and concise way. As a direct consequence, they often don't know how to work with designers and developers because they don't speak their language. The role of a good entrepreneur is to break those barriers when it comes to his product. Otherwise, he won't be able to work correctly with the rest of his team. In this workshop, we will cover all the important steps in the conception of a technical product: • Product pitch: precisely define your value proposition (we'll give lots of examples) • Mockup: make a basic mockup of your app using Sketch • Database: what's the core database scheme of your product • User stories: write and organise your user stories on Trello. As an entrepreneur, this workshop will give you a simple methodology to precisely define the product you want to build and work efficiently with developers and designers without unnecessary processes or misunderstandings. We will take lots of real-life example (Product Hunt, Airbnb, etc..) to illustrate this workshop. --- Go further with Le Wagon and learn HTML, CSS, ruby, Rails, Javascript, Github, APIs and much more 🚀 during our 2 month full-time immersive bootcamp 👉 https://www.lewagon.com/program Le Wagon is the first bootcamp bringing technical skills to creative entrepreneurs in London. Product Manager vs. Product Owner Roles

02:06
This is a snippet from 280 Group's Agile Certified Product Manager and Product Owner - Online Course and Exam Learn More About The Online Course: http://280.gr/2zrnRC5 To be totally clear, this is a discussion about roles and NOT titles. For example, your TITLE can be Product Manager while performing the ROLE of a Product Owner. Product Management is a big discipline that covers a vast range of activities and responsibilities. This means being the market expert. You own the product strategy which drives the vision and roadmap. You manage the product throughout its lifecycle. And you ensure that there is a business justification for your decisions. You present the need. Your focus is the problem space and you avoid defining the product. You make the tough decisions and tradeoffs between features, schedule and cost. Ultimately, you deliver differentiated products to market. In some companies, the role is so big, that different aspects of it are split between different people. On the flip side, this is how product ownership is defined. You maximize the value of the product and the work of the development team. And you are the sole person responsible for managing the product backlog. You need to make sure the backlog is visible and understood by the entire development team. And all of these tasks for a particular project or slice of a project are the responsibility of one person. When you map the roles side-by-side, you can see that the product owner is responsible for the detailed work. You can see how closely they work with the development team. There are a lot of tasks that overlap with product management responsibilities. To allocate these, you may need to adjust for individual strengths and weaknesses. Some tasks are outside the scope of what Agile defines as that of the Product Owner. Many organizations struggle with dividing their responsibilities and if someone has all of these assigned to them, the workload becomes overwhelming. As a result, the focus is on the urgent and strategic focus is greatly diminished or lost.

Product Management Thinking In 2 Minutes | Solve For X

02:00
Product management is creative problem solving. As soon as you learn how to think about the variables, you can learn how to build something great. And product manager extraordinaire Christian Arca can take you through it in 2 minutes. Product management boils down thinking about the following issues: 1. Customer needs or wants 2. The solution those needs/wants 3. The product value Needs and wants are problems that people have – things they want to do but don’t have the tools to accomplish, or things that could help them do something better than they currently do. Your product is going to step in, like a comic book superheo, and solve that problem. But there are multiple ways to solve for needs. So it’s important to think about the product value: what are the benefits of the feature or product you want to build? Benefits can help you pick which way, or what feature, you choose in order to solve for a customer’s needs If you want to become a product manager for the ages, or want more entrepreneurial tips and tricks, check out One Month’s accelerated learning blog: learn.onemonth.com http://onemonth.com http://twitter.com/onemonthedu http://facebook.com/onemonthedu http://youtube.com/onemonth

What is a 'Product Owner'? - Scrum Guide

02:30
http://tv.ssw.com/what-is-a-product-owner The 2013 Scrum Guide definition of the 'Product Owner', in video form! http://rules.ssw.com.au/Management/RulesToBetterProductOwners/Pages/default.aspx (from the 2013 Scrum Guide:) The Product Owner The Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the product and the work of the Development Team. How this is done may vary widely across organizations, Scrum Teams, and individuals. The Product Owner is the sole person responsible for managing the Product Backlog. Product Backlog management includes: Clearly expressing Product Backlog items; Ordering the items in the Product Backlog to best achieve goals and missions; Ensuring the value of the work the Development Team performs; Ensuring that the Product Backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the Scrum Team will work on next; and, Ensuring the Development Team understands items in the Product Backlog to the level needed. The Product Owner may do the above work, or have the Development Team do it. However, the Product Owner remains accountable. The Product Owner is one person, not a committee. The Product Owner may represent the desires of a committee in the Product Backlog, but those wanting to change a backlog item's priority must convince the Product Owner. For the Product Owner to succeed, the entire organization must respect his or her decisions. The Product Owner's decisions are visible in the content and ordering of the Product Backlog. No one is allowed to tell the Development Team to work from a different set of requirements, and the Development Team isn't allowed to act on what anyone else says.
