If you want to learn bodybuilding from the world's best bodybuilder, you're in the right place. | Basics Are Best | "The biggest mistake being made in bodybuilding today is that people aren't covering basic exercises," says the Austrian Oak. And by basic, Arnold doesn't mean easy. Many contemporary fitness centers are full of people on machines, not in squat racks, and big-box gyms often lack even a single platform. Arnold disapproves: "Today, when I go in the gymnasium, I don't see any of the kids learning about the clean and press, or the snatch, or the upright row from the floor." Schwarzenegger's insistence on the essential lifts is not due to some grandfatherly desire to live in the past. It comes from decades of continued interest and expertise in the industry, and from the hard-earned knowledge that it doesn't take fancy machines or off-the-wall programming to become arguably the best bodybuilder in history. Get back to your bodybuilding roots and experience unbelievable growth. | Arnold Schwarzenegger's Training Tips | Chest: "There are three chest exercises that should always be done," Arnold says. "The bench press, the incline bench press at different angles, and the dumbbell flye." Back: "For back, I did chin-ups, bent-over barbell and dumbbell rows, and the T-bar row. Any kind of rowing movement will give you that thickness. Those are the exercises I relied on from the beginning of my career to the end." Arms: Arnold relied on the barbell curl to build thick biceps, but he also used incline dumbbell curls and concentration curls to isolate his biceps. "For triceps," Arnold says, "we did a lot of narrow [close-grip] bench press in the early days. And then triceps push downs and overhead triceps extensions later." Shoulders: Arnold's shoulders were built by barbell presses, behind-the-neck barbell presses, lateral raises, military presses, and dumbbell presses. "We always did presses behind the neck and a special dumbbell press which would stretch out the front delt at the bottom and fully flex it at the top. Now those are called Arnold presses." Legs "The squat is the most important exercise to create big thighs," says Arnold. "I did back squats, front squats, leg extensions, lunges, single-leg deadlifts, good morning exercises, and a lot of leg curls." Abs: "The regular training we did for abs was just leg raises, knee raises, crunches, and sit-ups. And it's the same training method that I use for Kim. It's mostly about eating. I mean, people think it's in the exercise, but if you're not eating right consistently, then it's just never going to happen. You know, her diet has come a long way and has changed a lot in terms of just eliminating processed foods and just getting her to eat real food. So if it comes in a box, if it didn't grow off a tree or the earth didn't give it to you, then just stay away from it. Fresh foods, unprocessed foods, and only water. As for the workouts, I would do something that's mixed, so that there's weight training, there's high-intensity interval training and there's steady state cardio. For now, you know I train Kim consistently. Sometimes I train her sisters Khloe and Kourtney. Kim Kardashian: She's even Snapchatting on my workout with Melissa. I give her the privilege of working out with her one time. Alcantara: I honestly, I just love her. She's also like one of the best clients that you could ever have. She doesn't cancel. She's always there. Kardashian: This is what I'm doing today. Alcantara: A lot of our sessions are at 6 a.m. I wake up at 4. So we train about five, six days a week. It ranges from an hour to an hour and a half. We do a lot of squats, deadlifts, chest press, overhead press, a ton, a ton of sprints. We do pull-ups, dips, but I would say that 85% of our training is weight training. You have to put the work in. You have to be intense, you have to struggle with every rep and feel it. It doesn't mean that you're gonna be Arnold and get huge. Kardashian: You guys, she's trying to kill me. Alcantara: Only a little bit. Kardashian: Officially trying to kill me. Alcantara: In the beginning, you know, I was sitting on my couch. I had gained 70 pounds with my daughter and I saw this infomercial for Insanity, which is a home workout program. And I saw these people's transformations. And I packed up all my food, I never cheated, only drank water, never missed a workout and 60 days later, I was 40 pounds lighter. I decided I wanted to do a bodybuilding competition in December of 2015. I won first place in Miss Figure and Miss Physique and that's when Kim contacted me. So she saw my transformation picture on Instagram. She was like scrolling through Instagram at 4 o'clock in the morning and she was like, "Wow, this woman, she's a Mom. She lives a regular life. Look at how she changed her life." She was looking for something that was sustainable. She didn't want to just lose weight fast and then you know, gain it again. It's a lifestyle. I had no expectations of becoming a celebrity trainer. I'm not thinking, "Oh yeah, I'm going to train Oprah tomorrow." I just hope that they get the results they're looking for. And every time she sees a new muscle growing or new lines, new definition — Kardashian: Do you guys see my muscles? Alcantara: The look on her face just makes me like super excited for her, because I know exactly what that feels like. Kardashian: Hamstrings, my favorite. Alcantara: Yeah, except that you're doing it with that bar. Kardashian: Oh, she has the light bar. This is what I'm doing. Alcantara: Exactly.

The Secret to "Boxer" Abs (FULL WORKOUT!)

In this video, I’m going to show you the secret behind their training that allows them to look amazing and how you can incorporate the same into one simple ab workout to get your core looking incredible as well. It starts with looking at some popular punch throwers, the essence of boxing. Here I showcase Bruce Lee (perhaps one of the hardest punchers of all time), Manny Pacquiao and Rocky Balboa himself, Sylvester Stallone. All three of these guys have awesome looking abs. That said, there is much more to the story than just their abs. Watch as I remove the serratus anterior from the equation and see how drastically different their midsections look when I do. This is because the serratus is one of the most critical muscles to the overall look and development of the core. The best part about it? It is very easy to engage when you know how to do it properly. I show you the best way to do it and give you five exercises that you can put into one ab workout that will hit your rectus abdominus, obliques and serratus all in one shot. The activation of the serratus allows us to protract our shoulders and get our shoulder blades to not just wrap around our torso but to stay closely intact with the ribcage when doing so. Many people that suffer from scapular winging have a weakness in the serratus anterior that is preventing them from stabilizing the shoulder blade with forward arm movement. The muscle also helps in elevation of the arm overhead. In order to do this you need to have upward rotation of the scapula. This is once again where the serratus comes in to help other muscles in the process of doing this without a hitch. We can hit this muscle very well if we figure out ways to protract the arm against resistance and of course include a heavy dose of ab work by picking the right exercises that allow us to light them up as well. The first of these exercises is called the plank up. Instead of just passively resting on our forearms on the floor you want to actively press your forearms down to lift your body up and back. This will protract your shoulder blades and instantly activate your serratus. The plank position itself of course will fire up the abs. Next we have the serratus anterior rollouts. If you have been watching this channel for any length of time you know that I love the ab wheel as an ab training device. Many people use it incorrectly however. You want to be sure that you are protracting your shoulder blades first and maintaining them throughout the rollout on every rep to get the serratus involved here as well and making it a killer exercise combo. No boxing workout would be complete without a little punching. You can do a resisted serratus punch with the band anchored behind you. Make sure you reach out as far as you can, and then go even further! Keep your feet positioned as I show you in order to narrow your base of support and make the core and abs work harder than ever. The screwdriver core exercise is a great variation on a dip in which you actually will never perform a dip. Instead you’ll lift your pelvis into a posterior pelvic tilt to activate your abs. Push through your hands on every rep to lift your body and round your shoulder blades around your ribcage and you will fire up the serratus anterior yet again. The extra rotation of the pelvis will get the obliques going here as well. Finally, the crunch pulldown is a popular ab exercise that can be easily modified to involve the serratus as well just by altering the position of your body in relation to the rope. Press the rope away from you to turn this one into a killer option to finish out this great abs and core workout. Ever wonder why you can train abs over and over again and still not get the results you're looking for? Check out this video where James Grage reveals some simple secrets for getting 6-pack abs. We'll start out with a basic ab exercise, the crunch. Now,to properly do a crunch, think about bringing your head toward your knees instead of up toward the ceiling). Just make sure you don’t pull on your neck or head. As you can see here, this now gets a nice curvature in the lower spine and brings point A and B closer together. You should now feel a greater contraction throughout your entire abdominal region. Once you've mastered proper technique you can then add resistance into the exercise. High reps don't build your abs or burn belly fat - you build your abs the same way you would build any other body part - with resistance. Now, the hanging leg raise is actually an effective exercise when done correctly. To do it properly we need to get that pelvis tilted up. Instead of finishing in the top position, we're going to use that as our starting point. From there we’re going to do a reverse crunch. Don't think about bringing your knees up toward the ceiling but instead bringing them toward your head - just like we did with the crunch but in reverse. You can see here that we're now getting good curvature in the spine, and bringing points A and B closer together, for maximum muscle contraction. Make sure you don't use momentum and swing. Start with a slow and controlled movement and then squeeze at the top before coming back to the starting position. That squeeze is the most important part, so don't rush it. So now that you know what the function of your abdominals is you can apply this same discipline to any ab exercise. If it doesn't meet this criteria of "shortening the distance between A and B" then it's not the best bang for your buck when it comes to building your abs. Nothing I like more than a challenge, and here's my first fitness challenge of 2019! Lots of you have asked for beginner tips to weightlifting and weightlifting workouts. I haven't had the motivation to lift weights lately (other workouts have captured my heart lately), so thought why not challenge myself to get that spark. The first celebrities weightlifting routine that came to mind, the one, the only, THE ROCK! For one week I followed The Rocks workout routine. Which included 4am cardio every day, followed by an intense weightlifting workout. I couldn't put all that work in and not finish it off with a Rock worthy cheat meal (had to make The Rock proud after all). Do These 5 Bodyweight Exercises with Ease (CHEAT CODES!)

There are some bodyweight exercises that are as difficult as any weighted exercise out there. There are others that look far more difficult than they actually are to perform. In this video, I’m going to show you the “cheat codes” for making 5 bodyweight exercises much easier than they look in just minutes. By the end of the video you will be much more likely to be able to do high box jumps, the dragon flag, floating planche tucks, hannibal pushups and typewriter pullups. Let’s get started with the dragon flag exercise. This is definitely one of the more challenging ab exercises out there, but that is if you try to turn it into just an ab exercise. You see, the cheat code for performing this exercise better is to not forget to use your glutes when doing it. When you lift your body up and try to maintain a perfectly straight torso you will find that as you fatigue your hips start to drop faster than your feet do. This is because you are not consciously trying to squeeze your glutes as hard as you can to prevent it. When you get a good glute contraction, you are able to keep your body much straighter and take some of the load off of the abs. Instantly, the exercise becomes easier and your chances of being able to perform it for a longer period of time go way up. Next, we cover the hannibal pushup. This explosive plyometric pushup variation is known to be rather difficult when viewed but much easier when performed. This is because you have to push your body up off the ground with enough force to be able to touch your hands and toes together in the middle of the rep. The key however, is the word middle. You are not touching in mid-air. You are touching on the ground in the middle of your body. This means that in order to do this properly you only need to think about dividing the distance in half. Bring your hands from your shoulders to your hips and your feet from behind you to your hips. When you see it this way you understand that the distance needing to be covered is far less. Visualize targeting this position on the floor and use it as the landing spot for both your feet and your hands. The next exercise is the typewriter pullup. This cool looking pullup variation is again much easier to perform when you implement the cheat codes I’m showing you. As you slide your body to the right or left, realize that you still have the other hand on the bar. Just because it isn’t clasped around the bar doesn’t mean that it cannot exert downward force into the bar (as you normally would in a pullup). Set your hands out wide to better allow for the sliding of the body left to right and turn your thumb downward as you move to hook the hand on the bar and provide the best support. The high box jump is much easier when you stop thinking of the move as one that requires a tremendous vertical jump. When you realize that the key to the movement is getting your knees as close to your head as possible, it becomes much easier to perform the exercise (especially when doing the quick warmups that I detail out). Finally, the floating planche tuck takes advantage of physics to make the exercise much easier than it seems. Keep the hands facing backwards so that the natural bend of the elbows takes your arms closer to your center of mass not further from it. This will allow for a better balance point and give you a much better chance of executing this difficult bodyweight exercise more easily.
