And how you can make any story more interesting :-) https://goo.gl/eLRiqM If you do storytelling well, you’ll find that people love having you around. It’s also much easier to talk about yourself in attractive or interesting ways. It also greatly helps your persuasion and makes it easy to have a group conversation. Why Markiplier? We’ve already covered some aspects of storytelling in our videos on Scott Harrison and Kevin Hart, so what I wanted to show you today isn’t how to tell a good meaty story well, but instead how to get people hooked even when your story isn’t super interesting by itself. So I picked a well known YouTuber named Markiplier because Markiplier is a great example of how to make ANYTHING more interesting. And these lessons transfer very well to storytelling. For those of you that don’t know Markiplier he got his fame as a Let’s Play Youtuber, where he recorded himself playing videos games. There are tens of thousands of people trying to do this, and Markilplier rose to the top because he can make any given moment seem interesting. 0:24 Quick intro to Markiplier 0:45 How Markiplier starts his storytelling specifically to get listeners eager to hear him speak 1:56 How Markiplier uses his voice to make a story sound more interesting. Especially useful in group conversation. 4:54 Convey emotion when storytelling like Markiplier does and you'll be more captivating. Bonus, you're also much better at persuasion. 8:46 should I do another video on Markiplier that’s about being likable / popular? Get the exercise to build enthusiasm and commitment in under 1 minute: https://goo.gl/Hg42Mi Kevin Hart's 3 Secrets To Hilarious Storytelling Kevin Hart is one of the funniest men alive. Whether in interviews with Ellen Degeneres or George Lopez, or his standup specials, he tells absolutely hilarious stories. In fact, most of his standup routine consists of him telling stories. But he does it in such a way that hooks an audience and never lets go, partially because he is able to include so many jokes. It's not that Kevin Hart's life is inherently more interesting than the rest of ours. He is just a better storyteller. The good news is that storytelling is not something you're born with or you're not. Anyone can learn to tell the kind of funny stories that made Kevin famous. You just need to know the most important pieces. While there are many storytelling techniques and styles that will enable you to captivate an audience, ultimately, the best storytellers share a few things in common: they get attention, they commit, and they are constantly refining their craft. These fundamentals can be used in any kind of story but they are especially useful for funny stories So if you want to know how to tell a story better or you are just are interested in what makes Kevin Hart's stories so engaging, check out the video. The couple had no children, and being lonely, the woman decided to make a boy of gingerbread. She carefully mixed the batter, rolled out the dough, and cut out out a very nice gingerbread man. She added sugar icing for his hair, mouth, and clothes, and she used candy chips for buttons and eyes. What a fine looking gingerbread man he was! The old woman put him in the oven to bake. After he was fully done, she slowly opened the oven door. Up jumped the gingerbread man, and he ran out the door saying,"Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Man!" The old woman and the old man ran after him, but they could not catch him. #gingerbreadman #thegingerbreadman #gingerbreadmanfullmovie #gingerbreadmanfairytales Subscribe our channel For More Videos: https://goo.gl/7xXwXf Like Us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/superaudioma... By Jessica | Ready to "wear it out loud?” Merch store open, SHOP NOW: http://bit.ly/storybooth-merch | Subscribe: http://bit.ly/sub2storybooth | Record your story @ https://storybooth.com or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story. Jessica is really skinny. She started going through puberty and developing in certain ways but she’s flat chested. There’s just not much happening with that for her. Also, she hasn’t gotten her period yet, and so those two things – her being a late bloomer – have the girls at her school, and in her grade, making fun of her. It really all started all the way back in 4th grade. This was when all the other girls started developing, and she didn’t. Her friends started getting curves, real curves, while Jessica stayed undeveloped or underdeveloped, and flat. And that’s when people made fun of her and when all of a sudden she looked just a little bit different than the other girls around her. Because she was a late bloomer, they really insulted her. The insults kelpt coming, so she did what she had always been told to do when kids make fun of you or bully you, she went to a trusted adult to tell them, a Teacher looking for advice. But the Teacher just told her to try to ignore it. And, even though she tried, it turned out to be almost impossible – she saw these kids every day, where they made fun of her flat chest and skinny body – called her “flat,” and “ironing board” and "little boy". And the hard part of it was, some of these kids who teased and made fun of her were her friends, or at least they used to be. They would always have these private girl talk moments where they would discuss their periods and how much and how quickly they were developing, and whenever Jessica would try to join the conversation they would stop talking, or just tell her “you wouldn’t know what we’re talking about.” In 6th grade, everything got much harder because for some reason, all at once, all the girls in her grade started getting bigger, and curvier, and just started looking more like young women than little girls. And the boys started noticing – a lot. And when the boys started paying attention to that stuff, they also joined in on the teasing and taunting. More names – “toothpick,” “popsicle stick,” and “board,” and she didn’t know what to do. At one point she had the bright idea that if she just ate more she would put on some pounds and they would turn into curves, but all that did was make her full and sick, and finally, her grandparents put a stop to it. They told her to eat as she always had, and to try to be okay with her body, and that worked for awhile, in fact, things were okay up until she got to 8th grade. In 8th grade, absolutely everyone had started really developing, like well on their way, and even though Jessica had started down her own path through puberty she still hadn’t gotten her period and even though her chest wasn’t 100% flat anymore, there still wasn’t enough up there to notice. Her chest just hadn't developed yet. It wouldn’t have been too much of a problem if people didn’t feel the need to go around flaunting their new bodies and all their curves, but Jessica felt like at her school that’s what everybody did whenever they had the chance. But then Jessica discovered padded bras, that made it look like there was more there than there really was, which was fine by her. But, trying it out, and trying really hard to look curvy, everyone noticed what she was up to and they still teased her. One day at lunch a boy in her class told her she looked like a second grader, and even though she laughed it off, inside she felt like she couldn’t take it anymore. She went home that day and cried for hours, and the next day she pretended to be sick so she wouldn’t have to go to school, all because she was flat chested and a late bloomer. Home from school she was bored, so she decided to just wander around YouTube and ended up finding tons of inspirational stories about body image and puberty and development and really just about loving and respecting your self and your body no matter what the mirror shows you. "I am who I am" she thought. And I love myself for that. From that moment on, she stopped caring what other people thought, and ignoring what they said. All she cares about is that she loves herself no matter what! - - - We love this true story. What's your story? We want to hear it! Comment, like, share this story. Kassandra isn't a bad kid at all, and neither is her boyfriend who she has been with for a while, and so it was maybe a little bit weird that one morning on their way into school her boyfriend showed her that he had a weed brownie with him - an edible pot brownie that his cousin had given him - but that didn't bother her much. They felt like they were old enough to make their own decisions - sophomores in high school - and they were both up for trying new things - but having it at school was a little odd. But, on their way into school her boyfriend freaked out because, like so many schools now, they had heightened security and there was a K-9 unit, and he was sure that the dog would sniff out the pot brownie and that would be the end of his high school career. So, Kassandra - to her boyfriend's surprise, said - "okay, let's eat it now!" before we go in." Neither of them had ever tried anything like that before, and so they didn't really know how much to eat, or how it would feel, or how long it would take to start working. So they just pretty much split the brownie in half and ate it all up. Kassandra thought it would be like an instant change, and that she would feel the weed right away, and after she ate it she felt totally normal. She kind of forgot about it and they went off to first period, gym, where they were all playing tennis. And that's when it started - the weed brownie started to work. She began to feel a little bit woozy and shaky, and she was laughing at absolutely everything, everything was funny to her. After first period - gym - when she got into the girl's locker room was when things really stated getting weird. The room started spinning in circles and she got really dizzy - it felt like she was on a boat drifting through the sea. She grabbed her friend and told her what happened, how they had eaten the weed brownie before school started and how now, she really felt like it was kicking in. She walked down the hall to her second period and her mouth got so dry. She felt like it was made of sand paper. Right when she sat down in her second period class the room started spinning around again but this time it all felt like it was moving in slow motion - even her teacher seemed to moving slowly as he approached her and asked if she was okay. She had to deal with the reality that she really didn't feel okay and so she asked if she could go to the nurse. She was freaking out all the way to the nurse's office - dreamy and weird feeling, it was a bad experience. They gave her water and sat her down and asked her what was going on, was she on any medication or anything and she didn't know what to say so she just blurted out that she had taken a weed brownie that morning, and they totally freaked out about it - called the vice principal in who was also freaked out about it, and really mad too. She had a really stern look on her face and went on and on, but Kassandra doesn't remember a thing she said. All she can remember is that she held the principal's hand so tight because she was somehow convinced that she was about to fall off the chair and that somehow that would be an awful thing to happen. She was having a real out of body experience - too much. It was a bad experience with drugs. Finally her mom got there to pick her up and when she found out what had happened she was so mad and on the way home Kassandra was crying and sobbing and still everything was going in slow motion. Now, the one good thing that came out of all of this is that she and her grandma were in a real feud at the time, not talking at all and angry at each other, but, on weed for some reason, all Kassandra could do was hug her grandma and tell her how much she loved and appreciated her - mended! Still, Kassandra does not recommend that anyone do drugs, especially at school where you are almost guaranteed to have a very bad time. She doesn't regret it, but, she wouldn't do it over again if given the choice. In this case she had a bad experience with drugs. - - - We love this true story. http://helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com http://www.kmweiland.com Historical and speculative novelist K.M. Weiland offers tips and essays about the writing life to help other writers understand the ins and outs of the craft and the psychology behind the inspiration. This week’s video Shows you the two important (but often overlooked) ingredients in figuring out how to write funny dialogue your readers will love. Video Transcript: Today, I’m excited to welcome you to the first installment in a month-long series featuring important writing lessons that I learned in the past few years while writing my historical/dieselpunk mashup Storming, which will release December 4th. To start off with, we’re going to talk about how to write funny dialogue. Funny dialogue can show up in all kinds of stories, whether you’re writing an outright comedy or, like me in Storming, something that’s not a comedy, but that has a lot of adventurous, light-hearted moments—or even a downright tragedy, in which the humor functions as irony or a contrast against the darkness of the story. The trouble, as anyone who has ever deliberately tried to write humor can tell you, is that figuring out how to write funny dialogue on purpose is hard. Partly this is because of the subjective nature of humor, but mostly it’s because truly funny dialogue is not based on one-liners. In other words, as I was reminded and time again while writing the banter between my cocky barnstorming pilot and the mysterious non-English-speaking woman who falls out of the sky, the creation of funny dialogue relies on two very important—but often overlooked—ingredients. The first of these ingredients is context. For me, the holy grail of great dialogue is Star Wars. But Han Solo’s classic line about “boring conversation anyway” is only funny in its context of his bumbling through an impersonation of a stormtrooper trying to reassure a superior officer. In short, you have to start with a setting and a situation that create the kind of conflict that sets up the opportunities for humor. Second ingredient is character. Let’s face it: some people are funnier than others. Same goes for characters. The best lines are always going to arise out of the heart of the character—whether he’s sarcastic, impulsive, mean, dumb. Readers are always going to be delighted by the kind of funny dialogue that hasn’t been forced into the character’s mouth, but rather arises naturally out of his personality.

Comment, like, share this story. Jasmin and her best friend Sarah were hanging out at Jasmin's house - BORED - and trying to figure out what to do. This is a true story that begins just like so many others. They shared a few ideas that went nowhere, then Sarah got a devilish look in her eye and jumped off the bed. She suggested that they make a fake Twitter account of a science teacher from their school. Jasmin was confused at first - why would they do that? But also a little bit curious - how could they do that? And Sarah explained, it's not like they were going to harass or cyberbully the teacher, NO, it's just that he didn't have an account and they were simply going to make one for him and see what happened. Jasmin was still nervous about it, and asked Sarah if they could get in any trouble for making a fake account, and Sarah said no, and that they would just delete the Twitter account after they were done. So, they get to work making the fake account. They create a profile for him, and post pictures with hashtags that they find of him at school and on field trips and on Google. Then, they start following everyone - absolutely everyone from school, the teachers, the school, the teachers' husbands and wives.... And it works - they fool everyone. Everyone thinks the teacher's fake account it real, and so it's not long before teachers and other people start messaging Jasmin and Sarah, thinking it's the science teacher. They ask what he's doing over the weekend, and some want to make plans and hang out. It was just like Jasmin and her friends texting and messaging each other and making plans, except it was the adult teacher version of it - funny. They weren't quite sure what to do at that point, so they just went with it and pretended to be him - responded to the direct messages he was getting. They wrote stuff like "sorry, I'm busy all weekend," and "Hey there, great to connect." That all happened on a Friday night - and needless to say they didn't delete the account right after they were done. On Monday, at school and in between classes, Jasmin and Sarah overheard conversations going on in the Teachers Lounge. Oh no! The teachers were all asking that science teacher about his Twitter account, and whether it was really him. They heard him tell the other teachers that no, he didn't have an account, and then one teacher - sounding kind of mean and angry - almost shouting, said WE THINK SOMEONE MADE A FAKE ACCOUNT! Was it a prank? Was it cyberbullying? Was it a hacker? Who knew, all anyone knew is that is was a fake social media account. And that is was illegal and they needed to notify the police to find out who did it. All day in class, in their classrooms in the school, Jasmin and Sarah were totally freaked out - so scared - and vowed to each other that the minute they got home they would delete the account. What they thought was really funny at first, turned out to be not funny at all. They were scared, and anxiety was kicking in. But, when Jasmin's bus pulled up in front of her house there was a police car in the driveway - A POLICE CAR! She walked in, and just straight up a police officer asked her - "so, is it true you made this fake account of your teacher?" She didn't know what to say - was so nervous, thinking about Sarah and whether she was at her house with the police asking her the same questions. Finally, they talked it out of her, and she admitted, "yeah - it was me." They didn't seem at all surprised. This was a prank gone wrong, a really wrong decision, fake social media, potentially cyberbullying, illegal, hurtful and wrong. Her parents were so mad. She and her friend got into real trouble. Jasmin had to go see the principal, and she got a three-day suspension, some detention and except for all the work she missed and had to make up, it was better then she had thought it would be. No matter how bored she might be, Jasmine is not planning to make any more fake accounts. - - - We love this true story. What's your story? storybooth wants to hear it! Sometimes, life produces the kinds of situations that no Hollywood scriptwriter could ever dream up. Comical, ambiguous, unpredictable, tragic — life is such a multifaceted thing. I said I would do that, and I looked at grandpa who was wood-burning grandma’s portrait at my place. They’re celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary on next Thursday. - I was meeting my boyfriend’s parents. We were having dinner, and my hands were shaking with anxiety. Of course, when I tried to take some salad from the bowl, I dropped it all on the table. I thought, ‘Okay, here we go...’ Then my boyfriend thrust his fork into my little mess of a salad and started eating it! I think I’ll marry him. - I was seized by appendicitis, and an ambulance was called. We were racing along; I had a terrible pain, and I was with my girlfriend and a doctor. Suddenly, I understood that something was missing… "Can you turn the siren on? This is my first time in an ambulance, and I've always dreamed of having the siren on!" The doctor said that the siren was broken. As I lay back in the stretcher, upset, I heard both my girlfriend and the doctor begin to make a noise like a siren. They kept it up all the way to the hospital. - I woke up from someone breathing close to my ear. I opened my eyes to see the cutest Labrador puppy I’ve ever seen! My parents had remembered my dream from 20 years ago when I was still a kid. At that time, they couldn’t get a dog because of the small size of our apartment and our neighbors. Now that I live alone in a large apartment, they decided to get me a special present. - I was coloring a picture at the dinner table before going to bed. So as not to forget the idea, I sorted all the pencils in a certain order, filling the whole table with them. My husband was making breakfast in the morning when I rushed in screaming, "Oh gosh! I overslept!". Then I saw there were no pencils on the table anymore. I was upset, but not too much — it was my fault, after all. I went into the bedroom and saw my pencils all on my work desk. My husband laid them out for me in that same order! All 50 of them. - I study 100 miles away from my parents. One day I fell sick with a high fever. My dad came to drive me from the uni to the campus. He had to drive two hours and then back again so I wouldn't have to wait for the bus and ride it for 20 minutes! He also brought me mom’s broth and honey. Well… There are no words to explain how much I love them. And I’ll love them till my last breath. - Looking straight at me, my dearly loved husband says, ‘So much fat, and yet so delicious!’ After a minute of being completely nonplussed, I realize he is eating smoked fish. He only just escaped a slow and painful death. - She was my first love, and we were madly in love. However, I thought I was too young for serious relationships and chose career over love. Now I’m 30. Recently, I met her in a shopping center. She’s now happily married and has a son. We sat in a cafe for four hours, talking about everything. We both confessed we’d had the best time of our lives together. Well… I came home and simply burst into tears. How stupid I was to exchange the love of my life for all this! Don’t let "your" people go. - Yesterday, I chose the wrong number and accidentally sent my dad a message saying ‘I love you,’ which was meant for my husband. A few minutes later I got a reply, ‘I love you too. Dad.’ I almost cried. We say things like that to each other so rarely. - Last week, I saw a girl who looked about eight years old. She was talking to a dog, petting it and smiling. Her parents were standing to one side. Holding her by the hand, they were watching her. It was clear from their faces that they were happy. I later learned that the girl had autism, and that was the first time her parents heard her talk using full sentences. He was super nice, always wanted to know how she was feeling, whether she wanted to eat lunch with him the next day. It was perfect! Until, one day, kind of out of nowhere, he asked her to send him pics, and not just any kind of photos, not just some harmless selfies, but, well, you know - dirty ones. HE ASKED HER TO SEND HIM PICS WITHOUT CLOTHES, compromising pictures. Jennifer was surprised, of course, and said no, but he kept begging her and pleading, and she really, really like this boy, so she changed her no to a maybe. Part of her tried to talk they other part out of it, and she really didn't know what to do. After a little while, he asked her play this game with him over the phone that they all were playing, except he said that "the loser has to send pics undressed." She wanted to play, but asked him for something other than those kinds of pics for the loser, so he said "how about some bottom pics?!" She agreed, they played, and of course she lost. And, as she had promised, and being the loser, she sent him a couple... He liked them, a lot, to say the least. Later, he wanted more. And she said no, she had kind of had enough of that game, but then he sent her a picture of his you-know-what. Now she really didn't know what to do and he kept asking and asking and so finally she was just like "FINE" and sent him pics of herself in a her top - her body, her chest. And then he asker to take her top off, so she did, and covered herself with her hands, and he texted her to send it without her hands there and so she covered herself with emojis and sent it. And then he asked her to take the emojis off, and again she was like FINE - and she did, she removed the emojis and send him the pic. Needless to say, he was very excited about this and started asking for more pics, being kind of pushy about it too and at that point Jennifer just said no, that that was enough and to stop asking her. A month later, while her Mom was driving her and her friends, she overheard them talking to Jennifer about the pics and the boy she liked and the whole thing. Her Mom found out! Her Mom made her go with her to a therapist and talk about what happened, and when they asked if she had sent any photos to the boy she liked when he had sent her some, she lied and said no. She was embarrassed and a little bit ashamed, knowing she shouldn't have do this. But then her Mom threatened to take it up with the school and to get the boy she liked in trouble and that was it, Jennifer had to tell the truth. And her Mom was there for her, and comforted her, and understood, but also let her know that she couldn't do that anymore, that those kind of pictures could make their way around the Internet and get her into trouble some day, and to be more careful with what she sends! She sent pics to Oh, and, she got grounded for a really long time too, but honestly, she had already learned her lesson, and being afraid of those photos coming out was punishment enough. But still today, no one found out. - - - We love this true story. What's your story? storybooth wants to hear it! Comment, like, share this story. Ever have one of those nightmare dreams where you are undressed in front of your classmates? Well this story was no dream and the animation will bring it to life for you...At the end of 6th grade, Sophie got invited to the Birthday party of a girl she was kind of friends with that year. She was really excited because it was a pool party. This would be a great opportunity for her to spend time with her friends and other students from her school class. Sophie's Mother was just as excited about Summer as Sophie was. So much so, that she went out and bought Sophie a bunch of new bathing suites, bikinis, one pieces, even though the ones she already had fit just fine. Moms can be funny like that. Sophie came home from school and told her Mom, "Ay, Yo Mom, I'm going to this party." Her Mom got up and went to present her with a new bathing suit, the right one for this summer pool party. It was a bikini that tied on the sides of the top and of the bottom. a string bikini. If these ties on the bikini were to untie or break , the bikini would fall apart. Risk that her bikini would fall off? A serious bikini malfunction would potentially lead to a serious bikini fail she would not soon forget. Undeterred by the potential disaster, Sophie, went to the pool party proudly in that string bikini. It was a party FILLED with guys and girls. More guys than girls actually and she was cool with that because many of her best friends were guys. The Summer pool party was going really well and she was having a great time with her friends. Eventually, everyone decided to go on the diving board and because Sofie loved to jump and dive off of the diving board, she joined them without hesitation. When it was her turn, she decided to do a dive off of the diving board. When she hit the water, she realized someone was wrong...bikini malfunction, bikini fail, nightmare time. Her bikini had untied and completely fell off in the water. She tried desperately to retie it but could not. "OMG! I lost my bikini." Without her bikini on because a massive wardrobe malfunction, Sofie slid over to her girlfriend in the pool and whispered to her that she was in trouble, "Yo, my bathing suite just came undone." Her friend immediate went underwater and confirmed the bikini fail. Her friend called all of the other girls, her friends, over to surround her. They tried to help her, they covered her with a floatie, and one girl told all the boys to go the the other side of the pool, so they could not see her. They helped her the best that they could. It was really awkward and embarrassing to say the least. Her fear and embarrassment because of the bathing suit malfunction peaked when she learned that the Mother of the girl who's pool party it was was not home, only her Dad was. She he threw a towel into the pool, and she wrapper herself up in it, slightingly exposing herself buy accident in the process. She got out of the pool, untied string bikini in hand and went into the shed to compose herself where she cried a little at first. Then she retied her sting bikini and returned to the part like nothing ever happened. While she still enjoyed the rest of the party, her embarrassment kept her wanting to go home. When she did go home, she walked over to her Mom and said, "I want to burn this bathing suit" which is exactly what she did. Talk about an embarrassing bikini story. This was a party fail, a bikini fail, a bathing suit fail and a swimming pool fail, all rolled into one day that embarrassed Sophie. She destroyed all traces of that bikini, hoping to destroy the memory of her embarrassing bathing suit story. What's your story? storybooth wants to hear it! It's Storytime. Writer problems... Working from home can be challenging. And distracting. Especially if you're writing, which has its own special challenges. The lighting may be poor, and the video making amateurish, but the story is aptly told. Freelancers will feel along with the agony and victory of a fellow work-at-home writer. (And understand why some writers prefer to work in cafes ... away from the phone and house cat...) Disclaimer: If you're wondering if I work, I assure you, I do.
