I really love this video it changed the way I used to look at things but I have just a question, sometimes my company gives me a target to reach every day, that could be like 2000 euros or 1500 euros per day or more, how can I push my sales? How can I convince customers to enter in my store or to make them stop brousing around and actually buy?
Evan Carmichael (4 months ago)
Thank you for reaching out. Evan is doing the premieres on YouTube every night at 8pm EST so that would be the best way to reach out to him directly. Much love! #BelieveNation #BTA1108 Luka

0:30 1) actually care - ask questions, learn about them so u can make appropriate reccomendations 2:32 2) let them touch it / use it 4:10 3) reduce the risk - if u believe what u are selling them is the best thing for them, but they have objections of why the cant get it now and say they will come back. Reduce the risk, make it easier for them. Use passion to to help them see why they should get it now and not back. 5:18 bonus) if its not right for them, be willing to let them go

The last thing you mentioned about referring the customers to right store is something every retailer / sales person should learn.. that quality will help to win the hearts of customer easily.. for sure that customer will come back / will refer others.

Retail associates have had their sales goals raised to an unreasonable amount in an environment where internet sales is the company's focus. They offer gifts with purchase and many samples that isn't available in the store. The associate is fired for not making the sales goal. People go to the store to be color matched and get samples and then buy it online. Brick and mortar is suffering and well paid employees are let go.

Good points! These are same as what I practice when I was at the service frontline, and what I share in training classes nowadays. Actually it is just ONE main point foremost - CARE about the people (customers), the rest just follow quite naturally! Because when you really care, you would (1) proactively approach the customers to welcome them and help them, (2) communicate (ask and listen actively!) to find out what they need (NOT what we want to sell!), (3) recommend the most suitable products or services and explain their values, (4) address customers' concerns and objections, (5) plus-sell when you feel it will benefit them, and (6) ensure a smooth and satisfying closure of the sales in a win-win outcome (never at the customers' expense/loss!).

You know what's funny.... I'm in cell phone sales for 2 years now and just the other day I came to the realization that when I speak with customers I don't typically CARE and I take more of a salesman (woman) approach.. so I decided to change that. It made me like my job again AND is helping me so far this week with my sales as I apply it. I was always a good sales person but now I see how to be great. Just be real and care.. it's so simple. You broke it down good job.

I work in a handmade designer gift store. Many local products. Chinesse, Arabian and people from whole worl come in. Could you give me tips on ho to treat people from diferent cultures?
des ray (1 year ago)
Priscilla Vermiglio you can just spend time with different cultures so you can learn about them how THEY see themselves. That will also give you stuff to talk about with them to build rapport so selling to them is easier
Evan Carmichael (1 year ago)

Hi Evan! I have been starting a Fashion store soon along with my friend, I need your advice on how to keep the daily stock and keep track on my sales that at the end of day i could figure out that how much I have earned and at what profit? should i maintain it in excel or just give me your suggestions!
des ray (1 year ago)
You can simply have a spreadsheet or software keep track of your big orders and keep them in one place updating it daily and then every week, month, then quarter track changes and get averages. For the other question, simply count your receipts at closing and match them against the most recent batches of that item you bought. This will help you see over time how much of each style or item is selling and how fast bc you'd continually have to replace but then you also knew what to replace it with. Like if you needed to buy the same or similar or try something totally different

Alex Cook (2 years ago)
Im sorry but this is wrong on so many levels, You think that somebody in sales should send you away to a different store that has what you want so you will like him? What so that maybe MAYBE in 8-9-10 months you go back to that store looking to buy something and MAYBE you remember his name and MAYBE he is still at that store and MAYBE is he actually working that day. How long before that tactic pays off? months? years? and in that time frame this sales rep that you are giving sales advice to do this is loosing sales and maybe getting Write Ups or potentially even fired for sending business away from that store. Maybe even though he did not have exactly what you are looking for he should of offered something closer to your preference that he does have after getting to know you. This kind of tip will get somebody in trouble in a sales environment
Evan Carmichael (2 years ago)
Business is a marathon. If you just play for the sprint you are going to be beaten badly by better salespeople who get it Alex. Best of luck. #BTA453

Selling in retail becomes so much easier when you make sure your customer has the ultimate retail experience. Make it as convenient for them to buy from your store. For this, a good POS software can be very useful, go to www.pointofsalesoftware.org for more info.

My printed art pieces look exactly like a hand draw one , 1/3 the price plus I frame them properly when the hand drawn paintings are not framed which means it is gonna cost more to the buyer. I want to make this niche markwt product appealing to mass market and sell in high volumes how should I go abt this.?? Thanks in advance!

Bradford (2 years ago)
1 and 2 are good advice. 1 I feel is more about confidence, which is important with sales. 3 though is kind of pointless. I, personally, wouldn't waste any time on someone that isn't sure they are going to buy. It will usually end with a return at the very least. From what I know, a good salesperson should know within 5 minutes of talking to a customer if they are going to buy or not. This shouldn't conflict with "#1", but ultimately you shouldn't waste time on a customer that isn't confident about buying something. #4, "Don't shop with your wallet". If a customer comes in, offer them the best item (no matter the cost) that is for them and fits their needs (and work down from there). Explain why it's the best and follow rules 1-3. I know a lot of salespeople that shop with their wallet and it feels like a lost opportunity. Also because you were so focused on what you think the customer would buy they might be happy with it and end up returning it and the new sale goes to someone else. You can never guess what someone's wallet is, you just have to read the person and body language to figure it out and go from there.
This was fantastic. Thank you. I've been in sales and sales coaching my entire adult life (a looong time. lol) and I truly appreciate what you've said here. The sales culture has changed so much in the last decade and newer sales folks need a reminder about true values and integrity in the sales process. Unfortunately most companies don't include this in their training. I'm actually in the process of producing a series of tutorial videos specifically to sales. Thanks again! Enjoyed it!
Tony Lackie (2 years ago)
in the begining you said: "having been in malls ive seen a lot of sales men, if seen some really bad and some of the best" are you actually a salesman or have experience in it? i only ask because the advice is helpful but you never spoke on any experiences.

Want to know how to learn sales? Apply for a temporary job doing door to door sales. After having a few people slam the door in your face, while also making sales, developing people skills and patience, believe it or not, you will find your best pitches on the street and not in a store. I can sell anything now. Just my 2 cents.
GINO SUPER DFW (2 years ago)
MaynardxEST89 true, street sales are much harder and once you handle those with great skills, its like a walk in the park for retail stores.

MelpyMelperson (2 years ago)
This provided zero help. How are you supposed to maintain that mindset in tip 1 when your employer is constantly on your back about how much money you need to make every hour?
Your Favorite Portuguese (2 months ago)
+Karen Leblanc then you don't sell a second item. But there are many strategies. Always start with the most expensive product.. And then lower the product. Ok well... This is gonna ba hard to explain.. But I will try my best. You need to qualify the costumer. I for example I set always a day target fo my self. I set always $5000 (most of the time I don't make this money) The reason why I set this Targed, it's to make sense of my time. I work 8 hours (9with break) so, of I want to make 5k I must make $625/ hour So i decided for myself that I have 2 options First- I must make $312.5 in 30min. Or Second- $209 in 20 min. Why do I make this math? I say to may self that I am willing to spend 30min with only one costumer wich is willing to spend $312.5 Or I am willing to spend 20min with one costumer wich is willing to spend $209 Both of them are reasonable prices, which I can get by only selling two products. But why do I invest time? I don't ask the people how I can help them, because the will just reply that they are just looking. So instead, I approach them asking if they like Karl Lagerfeld. Of they say yes, I ask them what they like most about him and this what I start to have a small talk with the costumer. (In this conversation I see how much the person love the creator. If they have a strong positive reaction, then it's a good sign that the person is willing to spend some money for higher prices products.... if the respond is kinda neutral, than i will stop talk about Karl Lagerfeld... if the person have a negative reaction, I agree with them saying that I didn't agree with one or two statements he made in the past, but, I also say this "...but, I always separate personal life with business life and I think an intelligent Men/woman like you will do it to, and you can love him or hate him, fact is he was very creative and made an excellent work".... this almost ever the costumer agree with me. During this small talk I also look at the costumer face expression. You will learn it with time, I don't know how to explain it in written word. But at some neutral costumers, you can see that they are really not interested, they were really just spending some time, they get really uncomfortable just with my presence. This people I don't spend my time with because I will probably just waste time. The negative people is the same, I can see if they are costumers willing to spend money or not. But let's continue. After I asked if they like karl I ask if they like his fashion. And then I tell about his fashion and I also ask some questions depending on the costumers reaction. And during this 2 Questions, I can understand if the person is a good buyer or not. I start then to show them products ....always 2 products and ask them which they like most. This what the costumer will tell by itself what they want and what not. This way I will see if the costumer has money or not. When the costumer start asking about the price, I literally ask if price is they only concern I know it is a hard question, but I usually try to ask people if they love to shop entire outfits or if they are open to they outfits before I show products. And after the small talk I usually have already formed a connection with the costumer so I am in a good position to make this hard question. If they say something like "no, but it's always good to know the price" Yes, sometimes I can hear a little anger in the voice But I just reply "I completely understand, and I agree with you and don't get me wrong. But I really would love to find the perfect products for you, wouldn't it be more beautiful if we look first for something you like instead just for the price? Or do you have a budget? If you have a budget please let me know so it will help me to present you the best products for you" And that's how I handle it. Of course it's not easy as it might sound. But this helped me a lot. And by the way, when the person just have enough money for one product, I would try to find a way to spit it up into 2 sales. For example, if the really love a bag wich cost $250 But you can see the pain in the face I just show them a similar bag, wich might cost $180 And I show them a second product wich might cost $50 or little less And then they will buy those two. Because it's under $250 and they will get 2 products. And also always remember, if you work for a big brand, the costumer who enter the store already know it will be expensive. And it is not the first time they spend more than they wanted to do. It happen to me all the time when I get in rapport with some costumers in the small talk. 10min of talking, representing products keeping the conversation about the brand, our creator and selling the products. And belive me many of my costumers when they see the end price they are in shock indeed, but the experience they had with me was higher than the price resisters. And belive it or not, most of them take a deep breath and say something to make sense like "I need to do something good to myself " People don't buy of logic they for emotions and they justify with logic. And people dont buy products or services they buy experiences. So I give them a wow experience and that's why I don't have much price resistance. Hope I could help you

+Your Favorite Portuguese how can you do that if they only have enough money on their card for one item

I started a job in retail... without having any clue on how to sell woman clothes.. But still got an opportunity. And well, I do care about people, and even if I didn't knew how to find the perfect fit for s woman, they still bought from me and told to the store manager that they were very happy with my help. Because I was just honest with them and I have no problem to make a connection with people by being honest and funny. So, I can say that you don't even need sales experience, if you care about you costumer, and listen to your Store Manager, then you will become successful. I work in a Karl Lagerfeld Retail Store and yes, we also must Sale st least 2 product per transaction.

Work for a company where you actually believe in the product and the value it offers, whether you work in a scooba shop or in a high end fashion retailer in a busy mall the principle remains the same.

For number 2: in a retail store the customer is always touching the merchandise. Not much help.
David Huha (1 year ago)
But sometimes the items are in a case. You can only touch the transparent case. Only clothes you can try in the fitting room. I've seen a few businesses where you can't try the earphones, and can't try the googles (for swimming). Guess what, they don't sell it well. I used to find a nice looking googles in a supermarket, but I can't put it on and try it there. So i decided to go to a shop where i can do that, although the price is higher. Look, the guy I bought the google from do not compete on price.

Develop your people skills and attitude first then your sales skills keep your focus on providing value for the other person and it will happen forgot trying " do" something to someone but for them ..Find out what they want and give it to them. The word "Sales" come from the old english word sellan..which means you guessed it TO GIVE !

It starts with having confidence that what you're selling works. Are you confident that the app will help them improve their business? #BTA255

This is perfect! the company I work for actually uses "C.A.R.E." as the foundation to sell! Create a bond. Ask open ended questions Relate to your customers. Experience. I mention to my staff to hit all 5 senses too( well not taste, that'd be weird) when selling. We suggest alternatives and advice before we recommend them else where.

Just so you know, every store has something that is a perfect fit for a customer. Recommending another store is a cop out and that guy has no actual care for your needs. Outside of some crazy one off situation, everyone should be able to make their best decision on what YOU offer them.
Sharpy RokOut (2 years ago)
james cole if you said that in a store you would have made some people walk away and somewhere else. stores do run out of sizes and also order small runs depending on size. saying a store always has your size is a lie. I've worked retail long enough to know that's bull.

Hi, you still around... I work in sales the biggest problem is asking a customer for credit card and have them to follow trough the rest of the call, about 2minutes just to finish off,if customer doesn't follow trough it's not a sale, my a sales agent, this is regulations by Boss...So what I do ? what can I do? we sale magazine subscriptions 49.81 a month 6 magazine it's contract for 60months billing is broken into 20 months of 49.81
Evan Carmichael (2 years ago)
I don't fully understand the problem but: 1) Provide value and find the urgency for the customer 2) If the compensation system isn't fair for you, go work somewhere where it is #BTA249
