I'm not new to MtG but I'm new to the channel. Videos like this one are what shows the solidity of a channel and the integrity of the producer, and it's what ultimately makes me a loyal watcher. Mea culpa is a very good thing when done right, as is the case here.
TheMonyarm (18 days ago)
I joined Pucatrade shortly after you showcased it, i traded a metric fuckton of MTGO commons and uncommons for points, then used those points to get paper commons, i got a couple cards from it, then it impoded/exploded/whatever it did, and that was that.
IndraSunrise (23 days ago)
You earned my like when you assumed absolute responsibility in number five. Many people would say it didn't matter, or it was years ago. You owned your mistake. Good for you. That's a strong and positive message to send.

I really appreciate that you're a gentleman and a scholar.

Many Magic: The Gathering players ask, "What are your biggest regrets as a Magic: The Gathering YouTuber?"

I never wanted to watch this thinking it wasn't a good learning experience glad I did Professor. 😏 16:20 I notice the same I played in the 90s then came back for about two years now. 19:31 Thanks for that one. 😎

To be honest, we really don't need more normal interviews with Mark. He answers like 10 questions every day on his blog. I found the video funny

Not going to lie, 2 or 3 years ago, I genuinely thought you didn't want to make a video about card stock because WOTC paid you off. I love this video, because the transparency helps the game, community and playerbase as a whole.

So wait...why were the cards sticking then??
Random Man Things (1 month ago)
Rock on, man. This was a double Mox channel, fireball of a video.
L3SwineFlu (1 month ago)
Watching this video reminded me of why I unsubscribed from you, at the time I was mad that you where not talking about the paper quality and by the time you did I was annoyed. I like hearing you speak plainly on things that went right or went wrong thank you for your openness. +1 subscriber not that it means much but hope it helps.👌

Loved this video. Very helpful for a new YouTuber like myself.
NOT METAL (1 month ago)
This video touched upon it, but I wonder if there is more to be said about what MTG can inform or shape in ‘real life’. Are there particular virtues which are fostered through this game? I suspect so.
sirbiff10 (1 month ago)
Regrets will happen. Like how I bought a mystery cube. It’s learning to see what lead you to those regrets that we need to learn from. Aside from that I love this channel. Great content, great youtuber!

You said without a doubt, your number 1 regret is your number 1 regret, but when talking about your number 3 regret, you said depending on the day, it could be number 1, nullifying your comment about it without a doubt being your number 1 regret. Also you said throughout the video that words have meaning, but contradicting yourself as I previously pointed out shows you haven't learned from your mistakes. I'm just giving you a hard time professor. Love your content. Also I'm on my way to being a professor myself. Studying physics in college and planning on pursuing my PhD. So I guess Dr. more so than professor.

#RESPECT for anybody who goes through this level of self reflection. Even more respect for that person when they are willing to do it publicly... when they were already a public personality. Even more respect to see that the self reflection was accurate and learned from in a positive way. Good job Brian :)

Just great and inspiring stuff. Self reflection can be sticky and awkward and hard to do. For me anyways.

I do admire how you use words. With very little guessing involved. For those of us who have trouble getting sarcasm or sometimes miss metaphors it is very nice indeed. Words have a meaning for a reason. Thanks

Great vid man, well done. People need to see that being successful isn't about being lucky OR working hard alone...it's those things AND making mistakes and learning from them all along the way.

If I may be so forward: Brian, you've got nothing to regret if these are your top 5. Things happen, and it's all about the learning process. It's great that you came forward and acknowledged these issues, and it shows your honesty especially if you keep making corrections. You dont know everything and you cant predict the future. But great job for posting a correction episode! Sincerely, That one strange fan who met you at last years Seattle GP 2018 and gave you some art on Depression. My regret was not explaining that art series better. Lol. Personally, I enjoyed you tearing down that magic monthly service.

It's not so much the words themselves that matter Prof; so much as your integrity in delivering them and our ability to trust what you say. Congratulations (and Thank You) on taking this so seriously, you really get this right in my (and apparently many other M:tG players') opinion. Something even our most vaunted traditional media outlets have all completely lost. I hope you continue to do what you do for many years to come. Until You are the Old Man in someone's Tolarian College video! Don't ever give up your integrity, like your virginity, you only lose it once.....

Daniel Morris (2 months ago)
I am SOOO GLAD I dodged the PucaTrade disaster. I pulled an Expedition Polluted Delta in my only box of BFZ, and I'd never even seen a card that valuable before. I knew I'd never play it, and I didn't want to let it go to waste, so I started looking up online trade services. I went so far as to even sign up for Puke-a-trade and even put my cards on there. Thankfully, I ran into wonderfully scathing reviews and reddit threads full of people who saw the writing on the wall and pointed me to Deckbox instead. I traded my PD for $250 worth of amazing cards for my Commander decks, in the greatest windfall I've ever had... my first Avacyn, first Defense of the Heart, first Sensei's Diving Top, you name it. Thank you, Prof, for your humility in hindsight, and for warning unsuspecting noobs like me away from crappy/shady companies and their "products"!
Caabooose (2 months ago)
Pretty sure i commented on that pukatrade video that it was obviously awful lol, so many people were jumping on it and I was sitting here like "well i could take advantage of people easily with this flawed system but ill just let them crash and burn when it comes time instead" it was really bad.

Honest critique is something dowsed to hell and back by modern marketing, "sponsored" videos and so on - I respect your honest reviews, and your use of the English language - both skills that are easily overlooked in today's content creation. Peoples tongues seem to dance like a snake to a piper when a silver coin is dropped in their pocket - it's good to see people who fight such meager urges.
Tory Evans (2 months ago)
Hmm... I like you Professor. I love your channel. But I have to be honest. A lot of this video feels pretty weak. Some of your words just sound off. We don't need to go into it. It's not a problem. I'm just going to squint a bit and disregard.

Josh Leff (2 months ago)
Prof, You mentioned in the video how you regret not making a video on the card stock issue, but eventually did it. I really hope that some of the reasons for that regret included the fact that your words have a heavy weight in the community. I have been watching and enjoying your videos for years, and have trusted what I see from you. I also believe that for at least some of your viewers, if it isn't seen on Tolarian Community College, then they simply won't receive that information. It is hard to balance a full time job, family, and normal every day life with MTG. I choose to do so anyway, but I just don't have time to search through all the different information sources to make sure I am up to date. Thanks for providing so much awesome content Prof! I really appreciate it.

Pucatrade was awesome in its heyday. It’s slow crumble to nothingness was a bigger catastrophe to those like me who love trading but not in game stores.
Nik Brautigam (2 months ago)
The decline of the economy was pretty brutal. I've been using pucatrade since the beginning and it's just started to turn around IMO. The economy is different now, and their discord is pretty helpful in finding out how to navigate that. I've had success at tracking down expos, masterpieces, and other EDH bling there over the last year for what that's worth. I'm just like you, a person who wants to trade but doesn't like going to stores and it still works for that purpose for me.
Lyrici17 (2 months ago)
Prof, the fact that you can release this video (that is almost wholly you being critical of yourself and your channel) shows why your channel is such a great resource. Frankly, your credibility is off the charts.... Thanks!
airkami (2 months ago)
The only people who "didn't know" who you were talking about were the people you were talking about when addressing MTG finance. You meant the underhanded people who would likely rob a kid blind if it meant turning a profit of a few pennies on the dollar. If anyone thought maybe you were talking about people who were on the up and up, they have far more severe issues to deal with, namely their comprehensive skills to read between the lines. Your other regrets make plenty of sense. It was hard for me to not want to be okay with the drop in cardstock quality. For future reference of the cardstock thing or coming late to any other conversation, you can lead in with these exact reasons you just gave for why you thought about not making a video. In theory, you should make a video about everything as soon as you can (like you said, some can come later and not be first ones out) Afterwards, you may decide you don't want to publish, which would totally suck to lose out on that work, but is that the price you are willing to pay to curb the chances you'll regret not doing a video?

I enjoyed that Rosewater interview, I got my laughs out of it. 😊😊
Mr. Ruff (2 months ago)
Your critical self assessment is excellent. The thought and time you put into your videos keeps me coming back. The loss in quality in card stock is still quite noticeable despite recent improvements. Hopefully WotC will return back to the old stock or printing method soon.

Now I wish you would tell us what these sites are that are like Pucatrade, but better, that you use. Ever since I stopped using it I wish I could find another that is decent. Could you share? Or someone else share, perhaps?
Gumgod (2 months ago)
I assume that he's talking about cardsphere.com, though the creators of Card Sphere do not like to compare themselves to Puca. It's still the same type of push system; meaning that if you have cards you want to get rid of, you can choose to send them to someone who wants them. (As opposed to a system like TCG player where you have to wait on a buyer to buy from you). That credit can either be used to get cards you want or you can pay a 10% fee (minimum $10 fee) and get it as actual US dollars. Pucatrade is also still around, and has improved their site and service but the number of people using it has dropped off significantly.

No, Prof. You should have locked Gavin in your basement, he can be released when WOtC reprints fetches. It reprints fetches or it gets the hose again. Thanks for all your videos, Prof. Your honesty and your defense of customers is appreciated.

Pucatrade shouldn't be a regeret - it was EXCELLENT when it was. I have traded huge amounts of cards and massively blinged out multiple commander decks thanks to you!

Watching mystery power box openings is actually fun though. Actually opening them, on the other hand, is basically throwing money in the trash

I knew Puca trade would be on this list, good it was awful, and there is still some "magic" YouTubers that still is bitching on that. I hesitate to call them a part of the magic the gathering community becuase they spend more time digging through the bigger content developers twitter them to actually make magic content. I am not namecalling becuase 1 not nice 2 if you are one of those I am referring to and somehow read this...get your act tougher.

But do not trouble your self with regrets. Do as you have just showed us and prosper from the knowledge those mistakes and regrets.

15:00 How do you guys feel about off centered Foil Stamps from rares and Mythics? Wanted change a offcentered card and Wizards told me, "uh, that is not a flaw...sorry." ...in my opinion, thats arrogant, it's a quality issue, isn't it?!
