Your internet isn't just underwater. It's also covered in Vaseline. Follow Phil Edwards and Vox Almanac on Facebook for more: https://www.facebook.com/philedwardsinc1/ Map by TeleGeography: http://www.submarinecablemap.com/ Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO The internet is known to pulse through fiber optic cables and cell phone towers, but 99% of high-speed international information is transferred under the sea. How long has this been happening? Underwater cables delivering information isn't a novel idea — the first Transatlantic cable was laid in 1858—undersea cables have been around since the telegraph. OMG, does any know how the internet actually works these undersea cables are only part of it. You just described the World Wide Web with less entirely accurate information.

That makes me think about the connection that would be had when playing or surfing the Internet with people on Mars or other planets. If at any time there is an interplanetary connection service.

"The cloud" at least in the storage sense, is an annoyingly dumb way of describing what it actually is. There should be a better, more nefarious sounding term that gives people a real understanding of hard drives in distant large buildings holding your private data while you have little control over what can ultimately be done with it.

My dad's a marine engineer & spent around 30 years working for a company that layed these cables. Was always one of his pet hates when people talked about the internet going through satellites.

DO U REALLY THINK THAT IF UR IN EUROPE AND SAY VISIT A WEBPAGE FROM THE USA (NOW OF COURSE IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE PHYSICAL LOCATIONS OF THE SERVERS ETC) THAT IT REALLY TAKE LESS THAN A SECOND TO SEVERAL SECONDS, FOR UR DATA TO GET ALL THE WAY TO UR ISP, OUT ITS BACKBONE ONTO THE INTERNET (HAVING CHECKED THE DNS FOR ADDRESS TRANSLATION), ALL THE WAY THRU ROUTERS ETC TO THE SERVER/S, AND THEN BACK AGAIN THE OTHER WAY BACK TO YOUR HOUSE / DEVICE? YET - IF U DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE UR NOT GOING TO GET THE INTERNET ARE U. COME ON NOW. EARTH IS FLAT AND SPACE IS FAKE.

They should show how the cable crosses the mid-atlantic ocean ridge. I will look into it. For now, I would guess that it doesn`t go to the bottom at all. Maybe a few hundred meters...

This has been a VERY important set of facts that SO FEW people know about at THIS MOMENT. There are ALSO LITERALLY MILLIONS OF MILES of fibre optic cable that is DARK(unused) RIGHT NOW, ALL because the cable companies AND PHONE companies have STOPPED (through courts and lobbying) fibre optic service cable from getting to your home ( called the last mile). Google just recently tried AGAIN in getting Fibre optics to communities and were BLOCKED by the phone and cable operators. I WILL say this with EXTREME certainty; YOUR cable speeds have been SLOWED by the cable companies, what SPEEDS are available AT LOWER COSTS ARE being held hostage, JUST to milk you of more money!!!! I have had the opportunity to run a LONG term experiment in Fibre COMPARED to ALL other forms of communications------- It's NOT even CLOSE; Fibre is faster THAN you can click you tv channels!!! It IS MORE DEPENDABLE- Fibre is MUCH better in carrying info than cable and phone DSL. IT IS MUCH more DURABLE than they WANT TO TELL YOU--- It is BETTER in ALL aspects. The government, military, BIG banks and MANY tech companies have THEIR OWN PRIVATE(PVN) networks ALL working EXCLUSIVELY on FIBRE!!! Just THAT should tell you how well it works!!!

"ideas to bring the internet above sea level" you say? so what you mean by that without directly saying it is that it's not 99% of international data travelling under the sea but 100% GOING UNDER THE SEA.. ... .HEAR THAT PEOPLE? NO SATELLITES "DATA" AT ALL :')

Is there is no role of satellites in Internet connection????
Nikola95inYT (4 months ago)
Ajeet Salunke cables under the ocean provide faster and broad internet connection with practically no latency. Satellites have big latency, making them less useful. However it can cover any point of the globe.

Well, the very first underwater continental cable failed completely, the distortion caused by the length of the cable ruined the transmission, Edson cranked up the voltage thinking it would solve the problem, but just made things worse, one million ( I think it was even more ) dollars right down the drain.

How do you think the first transatlantic phone call was made? And the first transatlantic tv signal? Only a small amount of Internet content is transmitted by satellite. Satellites do broadcast tv, radio and gps information. The "cloud" is a collective term for data storage. The storage areas can cover acres of land and are often underground.
