We have a fight to finish.
Nicol Bolas controls Ravnica. With Liliana Vess under his devious contract, the dragon god’s army of Eternals run free and the guilds have descended into chaos. But Liliana is ready to take back control of her own destiny. Now only the combined power of the Planeswalkers stands between Bolas and the ultimate power he craves.

A friend of mine was helping me to organize my card collection, but he has never played, so I tried to explained to him the actual lore and a little about the vintage lore so he suddenly says "oh is the girl with an army of something like humas that was like part of an army leades by a giant dragon but she then betrays him and starts to burn" and I was like... yeah, how you know? And he told me there was an Ad with Linkin Park music. This was.
Im not always a nice person. Sometimes I say things and I regret it. I've said things that now to me seem unfair.
WOTC I have had negative thoughts about you. I have doubted you and I have discarded your previous efforts when you were excited to showcase them. I know your a corporation, and I know that your main drive is profit, but you also are the only organization in the world that cares for my favorite game. I want to be fair to you now.
This set has shown the community that you had a plan, and that you believed in it, even when some of us didn't believe in you. I would commend you for sticking to your beliefs, If I had the station to do so. If you continue to show ingenuity like this, you will continue to attract cohorts of loyal players, and remind the rest of us that our patience with your devious machinations can produce the best competitive TCG environment to be found anywhere. I hope you never lose your sense of imagination, because this is art. You've made me happy to be a Magic the Gathering Player again. Up for some Commander?
They need to make a movie off of this. If they actually like for real made magic the gathering into a movie. I would definitely go see it. But no live action stuff just animations like this. I would pay so much money to go see it and hell maybe even support it. I got a title in my head. Magic: the gathering War of the Sparks. (I know generic right?)
Wizards of the coast, or : it's not because we're at the summit of our storyline that we can't make Trash plot.
Liliana : I'm gonna kill everyone in this city!
Kid : You're bad! It's not good to be bad!
Liliana : Ooooh right! Now that you mention it!
Oketra and bontu : We're going to destroy everyone in this city!
Liliana : No! You're bad! And bolas is bad! It's not good to be bad!
Oketra and bontu : oh, okay then.
Bolas should've won. By far.
Why does this video show Lilliana as if she's a good person when she brutally destroyed the life of Garruk and all of his animal pals for no reason?
Pretty insensitive to dishonour the death of the greatest monogreen planeswalker ever by glorifying his murderer, he never even got his Planeswalker hunting revenge arc.
I just read the book. And this scene plays out almost exactly the same (A few differences for the sake of the trailer and some are nice twists.) It is astonishing to read what leads up to this and how this moment plays out. I HIGHLY recommend the book. It is fun, funny, fast paced, and even though I was just introduced to all these characters a few weeks ago... Emotional and amazing.
The book does an amazing job of introducing you to each character and the world.
And once you read this chapter... Come back and watch it again... And maybe shed a tear.
Just the first few seconds of this (which was all I watched because story wise I'm lost and don't care to be found. Typical fantasy fare, big drama someone's probably gonna' die in a "Star Wars" moment, repeat ad noseum, i.e. *yaaaaawn.)* However, even just the start shows how many resources you have poured into what, let's face it, most of us (Arena players) aren't up on, and don't care about. Meanwhile you want us to pay real money to compete in a game where hacking runs rampant and you have the obvious resources to deal with it, but don't. Yet you want people to get hype about competitions? People don't get excited about watching a competition that they aren't assured is fair. They get even less excited about competing themselves. So spare me the story please, and just make the game fair.
She got to become a planeswalker after her brother was left with a curse, where she would then go outside to find a cure but instead a man called the "raven man" gave here something to cure him, but with a price. Not paying attention to her mentor, she used the cure on her brother, curing him but also driving him insane, she stopped him but not before he kill ana and some assistants. thats literally the first part of her story, it would take ages to say the rest.
Liliana (the Lady) has made bargain with 4 demons. After death of all 4, nicol bolas (the dragon) is new holder. And he had said to Liliana that if she betrays him, he will kill her instantly. So the bargain made Liliana many years younger (I am not sure how old but she is at least thousand years old actually). So if she breaks the bargain (she did on the cinematic) she would age hundreds of years in an instant. So in the clip she decides to turn against Bolas and help the good guys to beat him. Aftermath of this cinematic continues with gideon (guy with the sword) to sacrifice himself for Liliana by giving his indestructibility to her bc she can control eternals (blue skeleton things).
I haven’t touched Magic since M14, but a friend has been getting me back into card games, so I quickly remembered how fun Magic can be.
Downloaded MTG Arena shortly after and when I saw this trailer I was completely blown away. I had chills, goosebumps, and I even felt emotional.
Very happy to be back.
The girl in the trailer (Liliana) accidentally fell into a contract with the evil dragon standing on top of the building (Nicol Bolas). She has to control her undead army to harvest power from other people to feed Bolas so that the dragon can become a god again. Liliana has a "thing" trapped inside her body so if she betrays Bolas, Bolas will use it to kill her instantly. But in the middle of the trailer, Liliana saw a girl and her brother running from the army, which reminded her of her dead brother. So she decided to stop working for Bolas and use her army to defeat him, even though that means she will have to die. There are a bunch of stories that leads up to this trailer so if you want to know more about it, you can try searching up "MTG lore" on youtube.
One of the frist ads I have not only fully watched, but then YouTube searched to watch the full trailer. I absolutely loved the emotions and "real" of your female mage lady. The emotions and rage factor is a huge favorite of mine. Reminds me of Supergirl and her rage heat vision scene. Make more please!
how do i get this version of the song without the original linkin park voices that they have in the original cover? they only have the instrumental version and the version that contains linkin park in it, but not the one we hear here...
"When you rule by fear, your greatest weakness is one who's no longer afraid."
"The moment Liliana defied Nicol Bolas, her contract was broken, and her life was forfeit. But she was free to choose her fate, and she decided it was worth the price."
"To Liliana's surprise, the cost of betraying Bolas did not fall on her."
"Liliana whispered to whatever consciousness Oketra and Bontu had left. 'You are the gods. He is the usurper. You know what to do.'"
"His triumph came not from victory over his enemies, but from the salvation of those who survived."
"Her triumph came not from escaping her death, but in claiming her independence."
"Kytheon had known war every day of his life. Now he finally knew peace."
You know, as much as Gideon and Lili aren't my favorite of the Gatewatch, let alone planeswalkers, WotC still managed to wrench my heart in two with this set and its story. Even if the book hadn't released and we only knew what we did from the flavor text, it would have still been a pretty emotional thing. I'm interested into what codename "Archery" will bring us in terms of story, since from what I remember we won't be focusing so much on the Gatewatch crew specifically for a while. New plane? Another return to an old plane? Perhaps a multi-planar set? New characters? I'm excited, to say the least.
I don't even play Magic the Gathering, but I LIVE for their cinematics. The micro-expressions in her face are amazing. There is a galaxy of emotions centered in one face and I'm in plain bewilderment.
I love Wizards of the Coast
So I don't play MTG and I have no context for whats going on and the only reason I'm here is cuz I keep seeing this ad and it keeps bugging me cuz it makes no sense at all. So at about 2:20 ish this lady tells her skeleton dudes to go attack the dragon? with like her purple glowing hand thing right? Ok so then the dragon gets mad? and his eyes glow for some reason... is she doing that? then its all dramatic and she starts doing.... something not sure what shes doin at that point and then she starts disintegrating? why? is the dragon doing that? is she making that portal thingy? What is going on? I know someone out there knows and could explain it because all the other comments are about how awesome the trailer is. And please don't just say "you have to play it to understand" I'm just curious. Thanks
This purple woman is Liliana who in exchange for the almost limitless powers of the necromancy entered into agreements with various powerful beings, among others with this dragon. Liliana, however, seeing what Nicol Bolas (the dragon) is doing to her friends and innocent people, decides to stand up to him, but it means an almost sure death for her (eventually she did not die because her friend Gideon took over the power that destroyed her). And the portal is for the army of the dragon, if not wrong
I'm literally got choked up, this is the best MTG trailer I have ever seen, and Liliana is my favorite PlanesWalker, I run her in my deck and I'm just so sad for my girl, I hope she doesn't stay dead for long
