Learn all about how to draw 3 cartoon styles of hands. I’ll go over the classic Mickey Mouse glove, general cartoon hands, and comic book hands. Want to learn about the anatomy of the hand? Check out the premium course - http://proko.com/anatomy
All of my hand lessons so far have covered how to draw realistic hands. I’ve broken down the anatomy and details of the hands and have shown you examples on how to invent them from imagination. But what if you only want to draw simple hands? Is there an easier method for drawing them? Well, cartoons are just exaggerations of reality. To exaggerate the hand, you have to know the hand. So while this lesson helps simplify the hands for you, it’s important for you watch the other lessons to understand the hands.

you should say rubber hose hands FELIX THE CAT AND OSWALD AND MINOR CHARACTERS (forgot Popeye and Bettie Boop but u get the general idea)like KOKO THE CLOWN ALSO GO INTO THAT SECTION JUST BECAUSE THEY WERENT AS SUCCESFUL DOESNT MEAN THEY SHOULD BE FORGOTTEN (also other characters like Donald duck Goofy flip the frog etc..)
And *people say anime and manga isn't art.* Or that it *requires little to no skill.* Well I'm just gonna continue in the style I like. I'll do my best with anatomy. Regardless of whether people look down on it cuz it's anime-like.
ai i It requires a good bit of skill and a lot of practice. I’ve been drawing in an anime-like style for about 2 years, and comparing my art then to where I am now, I’ve improved greatly. Heck, I’m still learning a lot of different things (which is why I’m watching this video).
Hi Stan, at first hand I would like to thank you for all this videos. I have been sudyng most of your video lessons as well in various Anatomy books for artists and I havent found any detailed information about lower limbs or pelvic muscles yet. I would love to see videos that adress to that second half of the body as well as feet with all that exmples, metaphores, geometrical simplifacations, incertion points and boney landmarks tips that you give. You have helped me a lot and It would be amazing lo lern from you about this topics. Thanks
hello Proko, i don't know if you will read this comment or not, but maybe it will be a good idea to make short video on how to draw simple shape and some exercices to help improve very basic skills, like drawin straight line, circles etc...
I don't know why, but I expected an animated Proko in the three different styles he was talking about.....just me? Okay. Anyhow fantastic tutorial once more, Proko! The quality just keeps rising with each new video you upload. :D
Thanks for this. Your anatomy courses are the best, but no one teaches how to simplify detailed anatomy into a more cartoon form. Even though this is just the hands I learned a lot I can take into other parts of the body, and I hope you do more like this in the future. Thanks again!
Another reason why cartoon characters often have 3 fingers, is that the movement can look like it's strobing if you have a full hand with the fingers spread out, waving around. Especially on twos. This is also why you'll often see the outer two fingers grouped together.
Richard Williams flipped this convention on it's head in the Thief and the Cobbler, when he gave Zigzag and extra finger, and gave each finger an extra digit, and gave each digit a ring
Queboon Red Blue and red in traditional animation is used for construction lines. That color blue is referred to as photo blue because when done traditionally you can use it for the construction, redraw with black for cleaner lines, and when photo copied the blue would not show up. All the construction lines would be gone. In addition to that, blue and red are easier to see when onion skinning your animations. People still use blue for traditional and digital drawing for construction and some artist like the blue better.
