Girl Up: The Secrets to an Extraordinary Life | Courtney Ferrell | TEDxRVA

40449 ratings | 1033600 views
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. It was filmed and edited by Tijo Media at the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage in Richmond, VA. As a creativity consultant and international speaker,. Courtney Ferrell can be found standing at the busy intersection of ideas, energy, and people. Her latest idea, Girl Up, empowers young women to take full advantage of their gifts, their independence, and their possibilities in order to create an extraordinary life for themselves. In the past decade, she has worked intimately with thousands of young women as a speaker, teacher, coach, dorm mother, and mentor. Her mission is to provide girls with actions and language that will help them put common (and uncommon) sense into practice and become a sought-after person without compromising who they are. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

"Mad Money" That mother is brilliant! I want my daughters AND MY SON to always have mad money!
Yvonne-Bella (9 hours ago)
I personally think "Woman Up" would be better as there's a strong meaning behind being a woman and being called a girl is diminutive.

This made me cry. It’s true. We are taught to bring down other women completely against our basic instincts, and we are taught to never think we are good enough.

This is such an important message but she talks so fast and loudly that it's a little overwhelming. I would have been so scared by this force of words if I were to sit there

Women are smarter, stronger and cleaner than men. Mercifully I am an androgynous male, so I come close to being superior like women.

Kody Mileski (24 days ago)
I love the video, I don't appreciate the comment "every guy wants to sleep with you" stereotyping isn't okay unless it's towards men.
Christiane Krulewitch (24 days ago)
I love her message but agreed could definitely benefit from slowing down and engaging the audience more. Feels like she's talking AT the young woman.
Shadow Eleven (24 days ago)
Aswome talk but there's a few things to simple to explain like that the "boyfriend" thing brake up if he's not meeting yout needs. This trend is actually doing harm and i mean in general nothing to do with gender.. Its not all about us in a relationship its 2 different person's it cant be just about one and not the other.. Things are worked at and fought for its not this fairy tale about soul mates. It also bleeds out to the work place.. Giving up and no pushing forward or communication, most fall for This trend of expecting things to Be our way always.. There's alot of problems this continued trend is creating in young kids and young adults
Meia (25 days ago)
Okay okay but some girls want to sleep with someone every week?

Something about her just (profoundly) changed my life. I KNEW all of these things.. I just did not have the courage to accept it. I have been (dwelling) in a toxic relation that has been "over" for a long time. I now know that I need to not only say to hi, - It's over", but I am saying it to MYSELF... I deserve it.. SO MANY THANKS, Girl Up!
Etta (3 months ago)
I am so beautiful and smart and valuable. I am powerful. I can do anything I set my mind to. My value is not based on my looks. Nobody can tell me what I am worth. I am a force of nature. No one can stop me or tell me otherwise.
