Improve the quality, clarity and graphics of your CAD drawings with this step-by-step tutorial. As I take the plan sketches for the Gallery House project and draft them in AutoCAD, I'll share with you all my tips, tricks and best practices for turning flat, dull and lifeless CAD drawings into presentation quality, professional documents.
A strong graphical style not only sells your idea to your client, but it helps the tradespeople better understand - and construct - exactly what you’ve designed.

Did you know that if you draw a line in Autocad that you can turn on the "show line weights" button to see thickness? This way your while drawing doesn't need to be polylines. The line weights will take their thickness from your .ctb file.
Hello Eric, love your work and all the tips that you give to help us become a better architect, one quick question, Does the template include furniture or blocks (cars, beds, couches, tables, etc...) ?. Because the OCD in me hate when some furniture looks significally differetn from others, inside the same plan. I like the "minimalistic" aesthetic that yours have.
P.S. Sorry for any misspelling.
I am a long time fan of your channel and am taking your lessons more seriously recently since I am looking forward to real professional growth as an interior designer. My current firm doesn't have a good drawing standard since there is no licensed architect in the small office.... and I've been struggling to improve my company standard without a professional CAD drawing foundation since I got hired as a fresh graduate. I really appreciate you sharing the invaluable information that you've built up over years/decades. I know this is not easy to do.
Hey, I kinda don't get the reasons for putting the floor pattern on the plan. For me it just makes it more confusing even with the thickest line. I just got into college so I'm new at this, if someone could explain the pros for me...
How do you do a title block. Just text or in a standard block. Have you created your logo on AutoCAD of imported it in from elsewhere. I'm trying to set up my page format line thickness ext.. had it before 10,- 15 years ago in an earlier version of LT, This one seams more complex.
Thank you so much as 3d visitations artist CAD has not been my strong point but now I have a better understanding of where I've been going wrong ....loved you point on zooming out and in of the drawings how line weights play and important to highlight what's important...I will be watching this over n over ... I would request a video on the difference type of cad drawing like your celling layout
These are great videos I wished would have been available when I was an architecture Student. Thanks for giving us an in-depth look at your CAD standards. Your drawings are beautiful and have given me some new ideas on organizing my own. 15 years in CAD, 10 in construction/architecture, still getting inspired! Thanks.
I set the line weight once and base it on the drawing scale, so for all 1/4” drawings I have a fixed set of weights I use, for details drawn at a larger scale it’s a different set of weights and so forth. I don’t use the scale line weights setting as I’ve never been able to achieve the look I was after. Using poly lines can help to fine tune the thickness you need...at least that’s what works for me...
I love watching your videos and the processes that you use doing your projects. I love architecture but not sure of how to go about transitioning into the field because I'm in my 30's and it will be a career change for me. Thank you for making these awesome videos. I enjoy watching them!
Great video! I use cad and how can i`ve miss creating my own template! i used to create windowns, doors, choosing colors all over again in every new project and with a template it will be easier! helpful video!
Sincerely... I´m fascinate with your channel and you work. I´m a new suscriber from now. I want ask you a question: what is the name of the typography you use? Maybe from the family of Helvetica? I will apreciated the answer. Cheers from Argentina from a old ex-student of Architecture, that never finished him career. I hope your answer.!!
I stop the video at 0:30 "I never start in CAD" I so disagree. I've had a lifetime of paper. I jump write to CAD, Just the fact of an undo is faster than starting over. My clients want the first draft to be the last. Sure that will rarely be the case, but it's how they think. I WANT IT YESTERDAY AND YOU NEED TO READ MY MIND.
Great video! Amazing presentation and beautiful work! I have no clue how you can still use that mac keyboard and mouse though. I get carpal tunnel just by looking at that flat mouse. There are much more comfortable options available. We will need more of these videos please! Cheers!
Hey Eric! Still love the content that keeps comming. Now I'm wondering,I bought both your books, is there any way there is a percentage for the full Architect + Entrepreneur: Startup Toolkit? Just wondering thoughn I know it was a lot of work for you!
